Around Azeroth: World of Minecraft
I don't know a lot about Minecraft, except that it's one of those games that people get addicted to and then won't shut up about (like Angry Birds.) Palamino of The Risen on Thorium Brotherhood (US-H) knows a bit more. "Several members of my guild have a Minecraft server that they share with other guild members," he writes. "Two of them spent a little time recently constructing this massive monument to the Horde. That's lava inside it, so it shines like a beacon of Horde pride during those brutal Minecraft nights."

I always marvel at stuff like this because I am usually too busy running and screaming from creepers and spiders, or hollowing out the entire planet to do anything creative. >_<

... in Alliance colours.
paragorillabear Oct 20th 2011 10:23AM
Since when is Orange an Alliance color???
lee_dav Oct 20th 2011 10:28AM
Ahh, I see the central colours as a yellow/gold shade, and the deep purple as blue.

Minecraft is becoming like Facebook or Twitter for me. The more I hear about it, the more I just want it to go away.
anuillae Oct 20th 2011 11:02AM
Though I can see how, very remotely, Facebook or Twitter might affect your life, I completely fail to understand how you could possibly have any kind of grievance against Minecraft. It's like hating on Skyrim just because you don't like the idea of dragons.
Revynn Oct 20th 2011 11:26AM
Its not a grievance against Minecraft as a game, it's just that I'm not interested in it and have gotten tired of hearing about it. If you play it, great. Have fun. But it's like when RIFT came out and no one was talking about anything else, after a few weeks I wanted to punch the next person who mentioned the game.

I always think I'd like this game, but then I realize that anything I could build would be more fun to do with my extensive LEGO collection.

Minecraft = Lego
Another one of those really annoying stereotypes perpetuated by people who, with all due respect, have little-to-no idea what they're talking about.

Since I no longer have my lego collection, this game is a great substitute. But man, do I miss my lego castles and little ponies... and the dragons... the little lego knights in swords and funny helms. Building sieges scenes of attacking castles, or mages, or dragons. So fun.... I think I need to go play minecraft...
Unrelated to lego though, I am starting to dislike/worry the way minecraft is going. Endermen eat my walls if I don't surround them in water, and in 1.9 they might just teleport into my castle grounds and take them apart... Creepers weren't bad enough? They exist in the day now and are very "SURPRISE EXPLODEY!" And with 1.9 the mobs are stronger, armor becomes very important (but I like my godzilla skin!), etc. Potions sound interesting though.

Persnickety much?
Sorry if you found my comparison in some way a slight against your Minecraft hobby... but get over it. You gather resources, using them to make new resources and build something.
It's not much different than me digging through my 24-gallon tubs looking for the pieces I want in order to build something.
Yes, in Minecraft, you get attacked while trying to do this. But I have a cat, so I face the same, if not greater danger. Pretty sure Minecraft has never left you with a bleeding hand.
Both are enjoyable creative outlets. Don't be a douche.

I lol'd. :D

Yes Matt knows all about douche-like behavior.

'Yes, in Minecraft, you get attacked while trying to do this. But I have a cat, so I face the same, if not greater danger. Pretty sure Minecraft has never left you with a bleeding hand.'
Doesn't say much for the relationship between you and your cat...
Also, not entirely sure where you got the idea that I was being a douche from. You're quick enough to defend WoW when someone comes along and, in your opinion, is offensive regarding it. I see no reason why I should not politely tell you that you don't know what you're talking about.
MattKrotzer Oct 20th 2011 12:28PM
I've SEEN Minecraft. I know what the game is about for the most part... I'm not entirely uninformed. I was just saying that given the options, I'd rather exercise my creativity though LEGO, than via Minecraft. Heck, there's some incredible LEGO CAD-style programs out there... but if I'm going to spend any time using those, I'd rather just use the bricks I have, instead.
And sorry about the douche-thing. It's entirely possible I read a tone into your post that wasn't intended.
Also, Teddy loves me. He also loves the crinkly clear plastic bags that LEGO comes in, as well as diving claws-first into piles of plastic that make tinkling noises when I'm rooting through them. He's a pouncer.

@anuillae
Someone obviously has never had a cat as a pet.
anuillae Oct 20th 2011 2:08PM
@Bonwhin
On the contrary, we have several more cats than your average cat owner. About 13, last time they were counted. Of course, they're practically wild rather than pets, since we keep them for catching rats. They do scratch, since you could hardly consider the owner-cat bond to be a relationship...
Bonwhin Oct 20th 2011 3:39PM
The relationship between owner and cat is a very complex one. It is very giving, as in you give belly rubs when they are not traps into a kitty claw grasp of doom and in return your face remains un-mauled (new word). I love my cats very much.

Tiny Wings way better than Angry Birds.
