Ack. I actually farmed for the damn thing so long that I'd memorized the NPCs that dropped it and the ones that didn't. Serious fail on my part. I should've checked Wowhead to verify that they did, in fact exist in Cata. Thanks for the correction!
The emerald whelp and the hyacinth macaw were two of the only pets that I think I just gave up on farming completely. The emerald was pretty unpleasant in that another person was farming that portion of Swamp of Sorrows at the time, and two people farming for the pet at once was an absolute slum. The hyacinth I gave up on after ... mmm, two or three weeks on and off. The emerald I wound up buying on the AH, the hyacinth I'm hoping will eventually show up in a Satchel. I ain't paying retail for that thing.
