A few things you missed.
The reason for Mr. Grubbs popularity? His idle animation. If you stand still long enough he starts doing backflips over your head.
Also, the tiny shale spider is a little bit more involved than killing a rare spawn. The rare spawn is at the back of a tunnel in deepholm, the only way to get to this tunnel is to blow yourself back and upwards with a bomb item you get while on this daily http://www.wowhead.com/quest=27048 . So if you want him, your best bet is to hang onto that daily and check whenever you get a chance. Also be aware, the mob it drops off is tamable, so you have to compete with other pet collectors AND hunters looking for a unique pet for it.
And lastly just as an aside, if youre lucky enough to have a Crawling Claw, and youre lucky enough to find someone else with one, if you both have them out and they get near eachother, they start playing RPS.

There is another way to get to the spider, not sure how "legal" it is. As you enter the cave flying, quickly take of your ethernet cable of your pc and keep flying to mob spawn place, as you land quickly repplug it and attack something. For some reason the server thinks its just lag...
Now that i finished writing it, theres no way it can be legal.
