Our friends over at Wowhead News (who helped us throw a heck of a party) also have been posting all sorts of
Mists of Pandaria information. One of the tidbits they have for us are what, exactly, our new Pandaren brothers and sisters will have for racial abilities. It's interesting to see that these racials are pretty strong for leveling.
-
Bouncy: reduces fall damage by half.
-
Inner peace: double rested XP.
-
Gourmond: +15 to cooking.
-
Epicurean: double stats to food buffs.
-
Quaking Palm (from the live stream): Puts a target to sleep for three seconds.
Some of these (the Epicurean racial in particular) seems pretty strong, maybe even
too strong. They're interesting in terms of how they touch on the Pandaren's lore and personality. Keep reading our coverage, including
liveblogs of each panel.

"Inner peace: double rested XP"
seems like they want players to catch up to max fast for new pandaren players

Makes sense, though. If the level cap is now 90, there's a lot of territory for a new toon to cover before it gets to the end. That's going to be a long slog, regardless.
That said, you'd think they'd find a way to grant that buff some other way, especially since that sort of racial ability becomes utterly pointless at max level. Not that some toons don't have useless racials (for example, bonuses to professions you didn't take), but this one has built-in obsolescence.

Which makes full heirlooms interesting.
It'll be interesting to see Pandaran in the different heirlooms. Monks use cloth, so we'll see some Dreadmist.

Well leveling 1 to 90 isn't necessarily going to be such a horrible slog. 1-70 is already pretty dang fast, and they're reducing 70-80 xp in 4.3. I'm willing to bet they'll lower xp required or speed up leveling 80-85 once Pandaria's out.
Notsoscary1 Oct 21st 2011 4:22PM
Shouldn't be any issue with leveling as it's stupidly fast. IMO the xp per level should increase by 30% minimum.

"...but this one has built-in obsolescence."
Same with the profession bonuses. Even if you do take the profession, the bonus becomes obsolete once you hit 525.

Monks are using Leather. agility leather for DPS and tanking, spell leather for healing.

Double XP racial will be useful for levels 1-90, which is a much more useful racial than mana bonus for a warrior, or weapon bonus for a class that can't use that particular weapon.
Duco Oct 21st 2011 5:32PM
It seems like this could mean one of two things:
* When rested, you get 3X the experience instead of 2X; or
* The rested state lasts twice as long, but only grants the standard 2X.
Any clue as to which?
incoming00 Oct 21st 2011 6:01PM
@ Duco,
this is from blizz's site for the Pandaren:
Inner Peace: Your rested experience bonus lasts twice as long.
Cyno01 Oct 21st 2011 6:58PM
So it sounds like, fully rested for a pandaren will be 3 levels (although it gets bumped by non kill xp) instead of the 1.5 it currently is IIRC for everybody else. Hopefully that means you gain rested twice as fast as well, or its really not THAT much of a bonus since youd have to be logged for twice as long to max it out.

Double rested XP? Very nice. Will be interesting to see how pandaren are balanced at endgame, as that Epicurean buff seems a little too good, so theres the risk that pandaren will be tuned to require the raid food buffs to be on par with other races (which'd be terrible outside of raiding).
Phredreeke Oct 21st 2011 5:02PM
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Great buff for raiding, but poor for PvP (unless they make food buffs persists through death a la flasks)
Hih Oct 21st 2011 5:12PM
Well, they don't have the goblin 1% haste, or the orc attack/spellpower on use cooldown. So the food buff will be their replacement. They'll probably be balanced so that the food buff is worth 1% haste.

There's a fith racial
Quaking Palm
You touch a secret pressure point on an enemy target, putting it to sleep for 3 seconds.

Vulcan neckpinch! :D
But of course pandaren know accupressure.
sejastwd Oct 21st 2011 4:30PM
Am I the only one who keeps reading that ability description too fast...
Should be Hairy Palm at that point
