BlizzCon 2011: Pandaren will be playable by both the Horde and Alliance

The choice as to whether you're Alliance or Horde doesn't happen at character creation, though. The choice will come after you've played through the introductory quest chain for your character. Once the stage has been set and you see where the lines of war have been drawn, you will choose which faction represents your interests best. Exciting? Oh, yes.

Oh be sure to let us know who the bad guys will be... or what plot elements to look forward to aside from frolicking about as a panda?
jealouspirate Oct 21st 2011 3:09PM
Metzen said that there will be no big villain in Mists of Pandaria. The story will focus on all-out war between the Alliance and the Horde.
Quorniya Oct 21st 2011 3:17PM
Since the focus will be on the Alliance vs Horde conflict, the big enemy for both sides will be Garrosh.

Can't wait to hear about raids, since this xpac will be A vs H.

25-man panty raid on Sylvanas and Jaina.

Seems like people think I was dissing the pandas? Wasn't really what i was trying to do... was honestly just curious about the things they glossed over (it's early @ BlizzCon). Ah well. Yea, I would like to get an inkling of what the new end game would look like. That's all
StClair Oct 21st 2011 4:29PM
@Quorniya:
And Varian.
(I'm partial to the suggestion someone made that we just oil 'em both up, put them in a wrestling ring, and let them get it out of their systems.)

What I found most interesting was Metzen saying they were going to be the Alliance race for TBC! That explains the slightly rushed feeling for the Draenei. I wonder what the lore linking them to Outland was going to be...
razion Oct 21st 2011 3:12PM
The same reason anyone would want to go to Outland--for all the free magic, and to fight demons that are invading Azeroth. Pandaren are Azerothian inhabitants too, it's only natural that they'd want to defend their home planet.
Miz Oct 21st 2011 3:24PM
I think that question was exactly why they didn't add Pandaren in TBC. Cuddly chinese bears and a demon-infested alien world just don't go all that well together.

"Cuddly chinese bears and a demon-infested alien world just don't go all that well together."
Cute and demons often go together in anime.
Zayd Oct 21st 2011 3:08PM
Wasn't there a thing about how having pandas (or facsimiles of them) in the game was a no no as it would rub the Chinese up the wrong way?
Or do I need to stp sniffing glue before I post.
Darky Oct 21st 2011 3:10PM
That was a rumour that got waaaay out of hand.
Marius W. Oct 21st 2011 3:13PM
For the last time. The chinese did not like Pandas dressing in Japanese armor. They have nothing at all against Pandas being used in games or as an aggressive or violent entity.
Please keep up. Thank you!!
MattKrotzer Oct 21st 2011 3:17PM
Marius: It's cute how you think that'll be the last time.
David Hayes Oct 21st 2011 3:21PM
There's a big Panda MMO in China. They're obviously sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo against it...
osteenq Oct 21st 2011 3:25PM
They just announced that they're adding pandas to the game, and you STILL felt like you had to come here and ask that?
Revynn Oct 21st 2011 3:08PM
I really did not see this coming.
I hope it opens the door for me to eventually have a Horde Night Elf, though.
Minstrel Oct 21st 2011 3:10PM
I'd love for all races to be able to choose their faction...being able to "cross lines" and fight for the other side.
MattKrotzer Oct 21st 2011 3:24PM
That would make family gatherings at the holidays pretty awkward.
