BlizzCon 2011: Pandaren will be playable by both the Horde and Alliance

The choice as to whether you're Alliance or Horde doesn't happen at character creation, though. The choice will come after you've played through the introductory quest chain for your character. Once the stage has been set and you see where the lines of war have been drawn, you will choose which faction represents your interests best. Exciting? Oh, yes.

Eccentrica: 'Everyone of us that leaves, two will join?' Yeah, because the recent subscriber numbers REALLY reflect that.
Artificial Oct 21st 2011 3:41PM
@CLASSIFIED: Unless you're suggesting recent changes in subscription numbers were the result of the next expansion, your comment makes no logical sense at all. How would subscription numbers from the past reflect people's reaction to an announcement made today?

Artificial: Take a look at the number of likes/dislikes on the Youtube page of the trailer. And these are people who, like myself, have been waiting on this annoucement.
Al Oct 21st 2011 4:03PM
Because YouTube commenters are the apex of reason.
Artificial Oct 21st 2011 6:27PM
@CLASSIFIED: And... once they saw it, then went back in time and unsubscribed months ago based on their reaction to what they saw today?! That's amazing!
Magma Oct 21st 2011 3:11PM
I so called this. Yeeeeees
MattKrotzer Oct 21st 2011 3:21PM
You're on Fox's twitter feed, aren't you?
Yes, you called it. Monks, Pandas and Mists of Pandaria. You're an oracle, I swear.
Magma Oct 21st 2011 3:29PM
Actually Matt, I was referring to the fact I said both factions would get pandas, or no one would. I said that about a day or two ago.
Ferato Oct 21st 2011 3:12PM
I am so rolling a Pandaren!
Now waiting to hear they can be hunters.... ;)
wow Oct 21st 2011 3:23PM
I am curious as to what their starting pet would be. hehe
Shinanji
Ullaana Oct 21st 2011 3:32PM
A Binturong?
xxxwrathxxx Oct 21st 2011 3:13PM
I wonder how this will affect their common language?(assuming pandaren) Will both horde and alliance pandas be able to chat?
NightRayne Oct 21st 2011 3:15PM
Pandas don't start as either horde or alliance. Once the toon plays through the starting area they get to decide which to join. Once they join a side the normal Alli/Horde restrictions of communications etc will apply I'm sure.
kingoomieiii Oct 21st 2011 3:17PM
Or, the faction choice coincides with a scripted concussion that causes you to forget Pandaren. Luckily, Common/Orcish is super easy to learn, for the next ten seconds! Pick one!
Oomu Oct 22nd 2011 7:26PM
at last ! the pandarens !
I'm glad.
Now, they can add High-elves to alliance.
DarkFinch Oct 21st 2011 3:14PM
As awesome as this is, the biggest question on my mind is 'who or what is the big antagonist?' A part of me hopes that we get a new foe.. Someone that isn't already affiliated with the Burning Legion or the Old Gods. But then again another part of me thinks that WoW NEEDS someone of old to come back and terrorize us in order to keep the old stories alive.
...this post will be irrelevant in 3...2...1.......
kingoomieiii Oct 21st 2011 3:18PM
They said specifically there isn't one. The expansion will be an escalation of horde/alliance conflict.
Ferato Oct 21st 2011 3:19PM
Hey, if you check out the note from the liveblog it says there won't be a big bad this time, the main focus will be on a war between The HORDE!!!! and those other guys :)
razion Oct 21st 2011 3:21PM
Metzen remarked that the sole "conflict" in this expansion will be Alliance and Horde conflict. As far as "big bads" go, they will likely be faction leaders of small armies, with the players acting as hired soldiers and heroes in the upcoming war. He said to expect conflict much akin to that of WC2.
Dreyja Oct 21st 2011 3:26PM
What is wrong the world? We are! That's the point. We are the ones driving the conflict.
Our hate and small-mindedness for generations of conflict drive it. That's the point and, let's face it, that's what we've been doing all along. We've been stupid enough to fight each-other while the world was falling down around us.
