Firstly, I think Blizzard has come up with a total gamechanger with MoP, in more than the literal sense. They've enticed people back, they've locked existing and returning subscribers into 12 month "plans", and they've got goodies across the board for new players and old alike. New talent systems will give a fresh feel, since I very much doubt they'd have said "new talent system" and thrown back just new talents.
Secondly, I've not played for quite a while (pre-4.2), and I've been tempted to return maybe once. When I was bored and had just finished Darksiders. With what I've seen of 4.3 and MoP, along with that annual plan, I'll likely be back inside a month.
And Blizzcon has barely started...

How is this really different from any other expansion though? EVERY expansion has been a huge draw to former players and seems game-changing. We then get the expansion and it isn't as different as we though. That's not a bad thing. It's what has gotten WoW to hit 12 million even if the subs have dropped since.

I have a feeling Arrohon's right. If he's not, AWESOME! With TOR coming out 'soon', and other games potentially reducing WoW's numbers, they need to just take a risk and try something new. Their existing model was awesome, but after 7 years it's gotten boring.

How is it a game changer when a China themed expansion has been done in Age of Conan already? Now Blizzard is doing the same exact type of expansion but instead of brutal action and ancient demon cities we get cartoon Kung Fu pandas?
This isn't a game changer it's a joke...

I'm really just saying that it'll still "feel" like WoW. Everything new seems so fresh and exciting... then it feels like it was always there and isn't special anymore. That's human nature and nothing the game can fix. Call of Duty games all feel the same, but they're still incredibly popular and (for many people) very fun.

I had said if the next expansion didn't "wow" me that I would probably be done w/ WoW at least for a while. But guess what? They WOW'd the heck out of me!! With the Monk class, Pandaren race, new talent system, and pet battling, I am completely SOLD!!

Diablo + WoW for 1 price = Genius marketing!
New talent trees = Could be awesome, or terribad?
Pokemon Pets + Pandas = Cancelled subs :(

Every expansion, except Cata. It hit the 12 million mark in Wrath. Cata has been doing its best to undo all the gains that were made in Wrath, and it looks, thankfully, like MoP is making strides to rectify the mistakes that Cata made.

I don't think MoP is gonna help get WoW back up to 12 million subs again. I fear it's going to drop below 10 million fairly shortly IMO. Could even drop below 9 million by next year.

I doubt it very much.
Don't take it personally, but your snippet of "Pokemon Pets + Pandas = Cancelled subs" pinpoints you as one the gamer elite, or more accurately, gaming elitists. WoW isn't catering to you guys as much anymore. It'll still provide interesting content for you, but you are no longer the sole focus of the game.
There are a lot more casual folks that want a challenge but mostly want something to do and a good entertainment return for their subscription fee than there are of folks who want a hardcore, only the best can enjoy it experience. Think about it. Wrath opened up endgame like never before, and people flocked to it. Cata started off with "Wow, heroics are hard" and suddenly people stopped flocking.
Also, Pokemon has been and continues to be one of the biggest video game franchises in history. Don't pretend you're a gamer in the same breath as dissing on Pokemon.

Why in the world would anyone cancell over the companion pets thing. It's complteley optional. It doesn't take away from anyone else's Uber SERIOUS gameplay. What's the deal? Why would anyone get worked up about this?
I've never played Pokemon, likely never will but I may just have some fun with this little side-game.
Year subscription + Diablo IS genius. I wasn't all that interested in playing it but I sure as sundown will now.
