I like the idea in Cataclysm of telling a story through the quests in the zone. It's annoying, though, in that almost every quest in zone is tied to that story. There should be some stand-alone quests, or short chains, that don't require you to do twenty or thirty main story quests to unlock the questgivers.
Especially egregious in examples like Thousand Needles, where you head to the manticore roost looking for information on Magatha Grimtotem. When you arrive, the guy you ask says he knows nothing, but help help there's a problem. You fix the problem, and suddenly he just happens to know where to go for the next step in the main story. You can't just show up and be asked to help, either. No, they only want the help of people who have important, world destroying quests to delay.
