New character models are in the works

Players have been asking for updates to older races as a result, and developers have confirmed that they are in the works and being actively designed by the character artists. However, they don't want to put something in the game that feels like a betrayal to a character that you've had for years, so they're proceeding carefully. There's no word yet on when we can expect to see them, but it's good news for everyone who'd like their older toons to look as good as their newer ones!
Edit: Zarhym has just posted on the forums clarifying the information given at BlizzCon, although there's no new information to share.
The news is out -- we'll be playing Mists of Pandaria! Find out what's in store with an all-new talent system, peek over our shoulder at our Pandaren hands-on, and get ready to battle your companion pets against others. It's all here right at WoW Insider!Filed under: BlizzCon

I am ecstatic! I hope they implement it smartly so that it's an option for those waxing nostalgic, but I am in love with this announcement.
Hopefully it doesn't become Dance Studios 2.0.

It was also stated that one day the dance studio will be released one day and the world of warcraft will be blowing minds like crazy, or something to that effect. It will happen!
Now back to reality!

I just went back and re-read the Open Q&A. Was this taken from another panel or was it paraphrased? Because there was nowhere that it said they were actively working on it. I want this to happen as much as the next person, but I would love to see where it was a direct quote if possible.

@noyou
I don't think it was the general q&a, but honestly I don't remember. Between watching blizzcon almost nonstop, doing heroics, and leveling my dk the last two days, everything is very blurred together.
One of them at some panel today did say something about the dance studio though. That much I remember. Whether or not he was serious, no one can say.

Actually, open q&a it was
From wow insider open q&a live blog
" One of these days we will unleash the dance studio on the world and it will take over the World of Warcraft with its awesomeness. But not today. Less than two weeks for the guild services we've been doing."

NICE! My human mage won't have the body structure of a body-builder anymore!!
Also...FIRST!!

Yep. You are the first comment to be downvoted in this post!! Grats! Winning!!

At least we know they are working on it! That is great news indeed.
If we don't see it by MoP release, at least in maybe 5.1, please!
johnshelley92 Oct 22nd 2011 7:15PM
Personally, I do not think it is unreasonable to demand new character models by 5.1 at the latest.
Noyou Oct 22nd 2011 8:30PM
Majorly impressed that they #1 are working on it currently and #2 they announced that they were actively working on it. I don't care if it makes it in the next expac, as long as it gets done before they make any more races (outside of the Pandaren of course). Hopefully they go Human/Orc first. Also, like the idle animation of the Pandaren from what I saw. Glad it is not something annoying like chewing, sniffing or butt scratching.

Moonkin were promised reskinning love in 4.2... at the art panel they still couldn't commit to when that will happen.
People complaining that their belt will be more expressive than their face will still see the belt. Moonkin will still be running around with a more expressive companion pet than avatar (if they shelled out to buy it).
Negatron Oct 23rd 2011 8:13AM
We will see them incrimentally. Sort of like how they have added new druid forms over time. Of course they'd have to release a Horde and Alliance model simultaneously or risk having their forum boards mushroom cloud. ;)
RetPallyJil Oct 22nd 2011 7:10PM
Can I keep RPJ's face on a new body? That would be ok.
Philster043 Oct 22nd 2011 7:10PM
I'm glad. I for one won't mind re-customizing all of my "older race" characters. In fact, I would love to. Heck, I won't mind if even my main, a blood elf, gets a bit of a different look, either. I mean, I don't believe that they need to go that far but if they did, I'd understand. But these older races NEED it.
Haden Oct 23rd 2011 9:24AM
ya I'm not really attached to ANY of my old character models anymore. ;( I'm sorry but at this point having my human or night elf stand next to a worgen makes them look like there not ever from the same game. Go nuts with the new player models Blizz! its hard to be attached to something i can barely make out.
Frase32 Oct 22nd 2011 7:11PM
This is a relief, I have been complaining these past two days about this issue. I will now hold my peace. I hope it is sooner rather than later, but knowing that it IS being actively developed has satisfied me for now. Thank you Blizz.
RetPallyJil Oct 22nd 2011 7:12PM
Not even close. But thanks for IDing yourself as a loser :D
RetPallyJil Oct 22nd 2011 7:26PM
Calm down, folks and back away from the downvote. If you cannot see that was intended for Mr. "First" then you have severe retardation problems ... even worse problems than the comment system!
Noyou Oct 22nd 2011 8:33PM
Grats. You both missed.
