Breakfast Topic: That's all, folks

So what did you think of this year's BlizzCon? This was definitely a more raucous convention than last year's, which was the calm before the Cataclysm storm. While readers have weighed in on what they're looking forward to the most (and the monk seems to have a clear advantage), there was still the rest of BlizzCon to consider. Did you watch the Foo Fighters concert? Did you order the annual pass? Do you have a favored pet picked out yet for battling other players? And what's up with that snake tail in Gundrak, anyway?
The news is out -- we'll be playing Mists of Pandaria! Find out what's in store with an all-new talent system, peek over our shoulder at our Pandaren hands-on, and get ready to battle your companion pets against others. It's all here right at WoW Insider!Filed under: Breakfast Topics, BlizzCon, Monk, Mists of Pandaria

I wish I still had a Christmas 2007 Orange Clockwork Robot. Don't tell me that Dalarab Toy Store imposter will do. I don't buy it!!
My engineer will have Old' Smokey & Pet Bombling with maybe the Mechanostrider.
If anyone wants to fight me I'll be in Vermillion City Gym with Lt. Surge!

Me and my three Ghast--I mean, Spirit of Summers will take you all on!

I choose you Horde Balloon!
I can't wait for pet battling and I pray that they keep the account wide pets when it launches.

I already bought the annual pass. Did it last night.
I absolutely want the monk class. Although I'm not doing it much these days, healing is my gig, and the idea of a completely new healing framework is exciting.
Can't wait for the new talent system. I think it'll reinvigorate gameplay.
I will *not* be doing the pet battles. I think the entire concept is ludicrous. For those who are excited about it, fine. Do your thing. I have no interest in it.
I'll be rolling a panda to see what the starting zone experience is like, just as I've done for every race in the game. So far, I've deleted a goblin, a troll, and a human after only 10 levels. Let's see if the panda makes it long enough to get a mount.

I think you're spot on here, Glaras. I really hope the new talent system will prevent cookie cutters. As Archmage Pants said on Friday (Arcane Brilliance) the fixes mindset of Arcane being the best is highly detrimental to the class and the game. The further we can get away from that the better.
And also, your thoughts perfectly sum up the PTB. it's content people can ignore. Unlike raiding or PvP which people who want cool gear find hard to ignore.

I bought mine the hour it was announced... Darn you, Blizzard!!

Guilty as charged! :-D

@Jamie
I dunno. I looked through the talent choices of some classes, and I can still see certain skills that would fall under "If you are a tank (or healer, or PVPer), you must pick THIS one".
I don't think you can ever get rid of the cookie cutter specs, because someone down the line will run the numbers and come up with the specs that will be 1% better than any other choice. Even minor things like which speed buff you should get, someone will calculate which one will give you the best MPH during phase 2 of raid boss #3 or something.
That being said, there are some pretty cool new talents in there. 25% speed boost while levitating? That's awesome.

@Brain: This has been just the first public showing of the talents. There will be many iterations and passes. I fully expect Blizzard will make at least 3 of the talent tiers for each class a really agonizing decision for each spec.
Sure, there'll be some tiers where one point is the obvious winner, and some raid fights where one talent will beat all others. I don't think Blizzard could ever hope to stop that.
But I do fully expect that there won't really be completely cookie cutter builds like there basically are today. Just wait until, hell, the alpha is released and they actually start doing number passes. All we get right now is the "spirit" of the talent.

I heart World Of Pet Craft.
Nay say? I say keep on sayin' that way ---->
Ice Oct 23rd 2011 10:02AM
Nay sayers should go to featured galleries?
I guess..it makes sense..
Honeydew Oct 23rd 2011 8:26AM
So it looks like Pandas won't be eligible to be death knights?
Boydboyd Oct 23rd 2011 8:29AM
Don't be silly. :)
eirinefrostblade Oct 23rd 2011 8:43AM
Death knights were made by Arthas Menethil. The pandaren were still floating through the mists on their tutle island, well after we defeated him. Makes sense to me. And before anyone bringd up worgen... The starting zone quest where you kill a member of your race references escaping the control of Arugal, so no, worgen dks are not the same kind of problem.
eirinefrostblade Oct 23rd 2011 8:45AM
And damn the tiny keyboard on my phone. "turtle" and "brings."
loop_not_defined Oct 23rd 2011 9:46AM
Nope, not eligible. It makes sense from a lore stand-point, really. Goblins and Worgen only sort of made sense, as it was (they were present although not actively engaged with the Scourge).
Cephas Oct 23rd 2011 9:57AM
Lore nonsense didn't stop Worgen and Goblin DKs. I know they came up with excuses, but still... The real problem with Pandaren DKs (as far as I can tell) is that the whole DK backstory is that you were once a mighty hero of the Alliance or Horde who got raised as a Death Knight. That just really doesn't jive with the whole Pandaren neutral race thing. Meeting both factions and choosing which to join is going to be a big a big deal for your new Pandaren character, and already being a hero of the Horde or Alliance just doesn't make much sense.

I was very surprised with the quality of the questions for all the Q&As this year. I was really setting the bar very low for the community and came away from it all feeling very proud of our questioners. There were a *lot* of good questions asked this year. A *lot*. I think there was only one (if that) that I would have rather not been asked (the 10 to 25 difficulty question). And as in Blizzard fashion, we also got fantastic and fabulous responses from the development teams and staff. I couldn't be happier with some of the responses that Ghostcrawler gave--the man is awesome, and I love his attitude. If I have one critic about the entire event, is that the Lore Q&A didn't feel very satisfying, despite the good questions that were asked.

PANDAS
If you don't like pandas, you're dead inside people.
Definitley interested in the monk as Dps and Tank are my two things, and will most certainly be making mine a Panda.
Marcosius Oct 23rd 2011 11:50AM
If I don't like pandas, doesn't mean I'm dead inside.
Plus, pandas aren't as cute and fluffy as people make them out to be. They're bears, and quite territorial bears. While it might not eat your corpse (they're _mostly_ vegetarian), it has no problem killing you should you piss one off.
