Technology has come a long way since the original Warcraft games were released, including the ability to create machinima. Given those advances, Melvenor jumped back in time and revisited his favorite video game. After spending some time in the past, he returned to us with this Warcraft II Unofficial Trailer.
The audience reaction to this trailer was overwhelming. When the video cut to game footage, the entire hall burst in nostalgic laughter. The trailer isn't just one long joke, though. Melvenor laced the video with the gorgeous scenes and intense dialogue for which he's known.
Congratulations to Melvenor for first place in the BlizzCon 2011 machinima contest.

"Enjoying yourself?" "..:It doesn't get any better than this."
But about the video - nostalgia'd, hard. Used to play Warcraft 1 & 2 hours upon hours with a friend (back then he was the only kid in the class who owned a PC).
I'd love to see them re-release all 3 Warcraft Games (with applicable expansion packs) using the new SC2 engine and graphics. I think it would make an awesome 25th Anniversary gift to the players.
I'd also love to see The Lost Vikings and Blackthorne make a return ;)
They did rerelease it back in the day. WarCraft 2: Battle.net Edition.
Took the original game and the expansion, combined them, and added in many gameplay enhancements, like right-click to issue commands like in StarCraft. Game was also ported to Windows 95, and runs perfectly on any CPU, unlike the original which had problems over a certain speed.
Also fixed many long-time bugs and balance issues, and added Battle.net support.
It should run just fine on a modern system, if you set it to Windows 95/98 compatibility mode.
Actually, what I'm talking about is a re-release of all 3 games in one box, updated to SC2's engine, graphics engine, add in proper cinematics of the caliber of SC2, and throw in something cool like a mini-Arthas or something. Box it all up, call it the Warcraft Anniversary Pack, slap a $100 price tag on it and rake in the cash. Who WOULDN'T buy it? I know I would, even at $100 it would still be a steal.
As fun as SC and SC2 are, I've always preferred the WC universe, I just feel that it's always had more depth to it.
Or Blizzard could take the Good Old Games approach and use DOSBox to get old games working on modern systems. I'd buy the older games to be able to play them without having to screw around with virtual machines anymore...
Man that brought back some memories. I actually still have my Warcraft and Warcraft 2 games. Tried putting them on my computer but it wouldn't install for some reason. Great video
Hmm, using Windows XP, Mac OSX or Windows 7? If you are really wanting to play them I suppose I could do some digging for you. I am pretty sure you would need some form of DOSBox or similar emulation software to do the trick though.
@Thomas I could be wrong, but if you still own the CD-key, put it up in the battle.net menus (can't remember which, manage games probably) - and unless I'm totally mistaken you can download the old games that should work at least in Win XP out of the box. Mind you haven't tried this with WC games yet myself... But at least I could play the original Starcraft (downloaded from b.net) without any hassle on my Windows XP machine.
Yep, Marcosius, you are right, it does sort of matter what version of the games master or mistress Dragons has. The DOS version, contrary to what most folks on the net seem to to think, can work perfectly well on newer operating systems. It just takes configuration skills. The Battle Net version, unlike sadly your Starcraft one, and also contrary to what most folks on the net think, can crash worse than a crashy thing if you even sneeze at it the wrong way.
Even games that have been built for Windows 7 and XP machines have got more crash bugs than your average termite mound so things aren't perfect all round. I just hate the idea of someone owning games he or she has been unable to play for any reason other than boo hiss piracy. If you pirate, you no take candle.
Last time I checked, the CD keys from Blizzard's oldest games aren't recognized by Battle.net. I managed to register Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II, but the older titles I tried (including Warcraft II Battle.net Edition) were not recognized.
That only works for SOME of the games. WC2 Bnet edition MIGHT work, but it's doubtful that the original WC2, Diablo, and WC1 will work.
I can confirm that D2, SC, and WC3 work beautifully. At some point I lost most of my install discs but still had my CD keys, which I put in under Manage Games, linked them, Downloaded them, and played them. On top of that, if I lose my PC for some reason, I can always redownload them again.

@Michael Gray
I watched this during the Costume/Dance contest on the live stream and I agree that it was both funny and awesome to see again.
Now to see if they'll ever re-release it...

I can tell you straight-up Diablo, and the original versions of WarCraft 2 and the expansion won't work.
They didn't have CD keys.

That was pretty awesome to see a classic game done trailer done with wow. I'd love to see other classic games done in this style.
