Cryptozoic Entertainment, which puts out the
WoW Trading Card Game, has announced a new way for you to enjoy the
Warcraft universe with
Clash of Champions, a new deck-building card game. This game allows you to take on the role of a major hero of the
Warcraft universe such as Thrall, Jaina, King Magni, Garrosh, or Varian Wrynn and fight monsters and epic bosses. As you fight, you level up, and you can add new abilities and loot to your card deck.
As you may expect from the basic outline of the rules, this will be a separate game from the
TCG, with new rules and new ways to play, but it sounds like an epic playing experience and a fun way to battle with your favorite characters from the
Warcraft mythos.
The new game is expected in spring 2012.

Interesting. I wish I had someone to play TCG with... maybe if I snag the 4 player Icecrown thing I can convince my non-WoW-playing friends to play it like any other card/board game? Idk.

I absolutely love the Star Trek DBG right now, but I don't know about buying more WoW cards.
But to those of you who never played a DBG, it's like a cross of a TCG and a board game. They're pretty fun, and cost you less moolah!

Considering that the WoW TCG was a clone of M:TG, I'm not really surprised. Hopefully this adds enough new stuff to justify the purchase.

Actually this has a nice feel of cross-polination with Bilzz. DOTA if you ask me.
I don't play card games though. I just think the timing is pretty smart.

I really hope this doesn't effect their focus on the TCG. I'm already bummed enough that raid decks no longer exist in their previous format.

It's really irritating me that I typed "effect" and I can't edit

Agree. The tabletop game market has been rather saturated with Dominion clones lately, and none of them have really impressed me or my gaming group. Dominion, for all its faults, still sees play.
I'm rather curious what, if anything, will differentiate this offering from that herd.
