C'mon, Pandas? And don't give me that "I'm and adult and I'm looking forward to it" crap
I'm an adult and I'm quite looking forward to it. I vastly enjoyed the Mists of Pandaria preview at BlizzCon, I am incredibly excited for the new Monk class. I really didn't get any negative feedback at BlizzCon about Mists of Pandaria. Quite the opposite, in fact: The people I had the privilege to speak with were just as excited about it as I am.
It's easy to dismiss something when you don't have complete information. It's easy to jump to snap judgements because Pandarens look cuddly or because you watched a cartoon that had pandas in it.
The Panderans have a rich culture and the world they inhabit is both stunningly beautiful and incredibly dangerous. That comes across in gameplay in a way that can't be captured in screenshots.
I think it might be worth giving it a chance before one starts shrieking about how it's for kids.

You made the Kung Fu Panda xpac. How did you expect your player base to react to that?
No. We're making Mists of Pandaria. It's a story about exploring a new continent, occupied by an ancient people with a rich culture, who are coming into contact with invaders who have their own agendas, in a conflict with potentially far reaching consequences for all involved. It is a story of cultures clashing, warfare, alliances, and politics. It is a voyage through a beautiful and often dangerous land. This culture is based on a race that has a basis in Warcraft lore. That's what it is. Unfortunately, some players are snidely choosing to interpret it as a cartoon expansion, and that's too bad.
For that matter, we rather did expect that we would get that reaction from some quarters. It was inevitable, I suppose. We hope that the more everyone gets to see and experience everything that's coming, that they'll begin to appreciate it, even if the idea seems silly now.

I still love:
"GLORY to the ALLIANCE!"
It's a good one. The word "Alliance" has a lot of syllables though. Just off the top of my head:
Strength and Valor!
Victory from Valor!
Justice by Blood!
Might by Justice!
Strength in Unity!
For Eternal Justice!
Honor Before Glory!
By Bone, Blood and Steel!
Never Break, Never Yield. Glory to the Alliance!
The Alliance Triumphs!
The Dude Abides!

"everyone" (!) was excited ? of course ! I can see a lot of people in a game's convention saying to their hosts "nah mate, that sounds a bit stupid... You know, your new idea for the expansion... yeah, they kinda sucky-sucky-10-dolla, don't they"
Pandaren ! I choose you !
Blizzard ! Gotta get them all (subscribers) !!!
Omegan01 Oct 26th 2011 2:10AM
So...nothing about the whole Corpsegrinder video and controversy, at all? Are you guys following the forum activity going on?
Al Oct 26th 2011 2:43AM
Hopefully they're waiting for a Blue Post about it, that's worth reading.
It's all "Well, I thought it was funny. Especially when he said $%!" so far.

No one with a brain gives a flying fuck.
Jyotai Oct 26th 2011 4:28AM
@rainman:
Yeah so people with brains support gay bashing?
revan238 Oct 26th 2011 2:12AM
For all of the people crying about this and saying they are going to quit. By all means, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. I won't miss ya, and I doubt Blizz will either.
Swallowcraft Oct 26th 2011 4:06AM
They'll be back once they figure out whatever game they quit and ran off to weren't up to their standards. Nobody walks away from their level 85 toon knowing they can get it up to 90 and stay away for long.
general Oct 26th 2011 12:01PM
Knowing you can get up to 90... and idle in Org/SW/IF waiting on Dungeon/Raid Finder like you've been doing the past 10 levels.
dk Oct 26th 2011 2:31AM
It just seems so cartoony, serious. Can this new hero class look angry?
Swallowcraft Oct 26th 2011 4:05AM
And WOW isn't cartoony? you must be blind.
RS Oct 26th 2011 9:04AM
it's not a hero class, starts out at level 1.
dk Oct 26th 2011 2:32AM
grrr. grrrr.

"You made the Kung Fu Panda xpac"
This is rather interesting. In the Kung Fu Panda movies the main character "Po" is thought to be the only panda in existence. In the second film we are lead to believe the rest have been wiped out.
SPOILER SPOILER
which is not the case because right at the end do we not only learn that Po's father is alive but there is an entire village of Pandas.
SPOILER OVER SPOILER OVER
This builds up to a possible Kung Fu Panda 3...who knows possibly being announced or coming out next year...same time as MoP right?
I dont care much for our furry new friends, im more interested in how the Devs managed to get into this predicament. Releasing an asian, panda, martial arts theme expansion relatively at the same time an asian, panda, martial arts theme movie is out which hints at a 3rd installment.
Pretty funny =]

I am so tired of people not remembering the Alliance battlecry is "For the Alliance!"
The Horde wasn't the only one to use that, people. It was in WarCraft 1-2. Both sides used it. The Horde version caught on, and everyone seemed to forget the Alliance version.
raingod Oct 26th 2011 4:24AM
That's because Alliance sucks.
Murdertime Oct 26th 2011 4:38AM
The Horde Version is Jet Boy Jet Girl.
The Alliance version is Ça plane pour moi.
Not the gay sex part. The part where despite being the same song for all intents, one ended up cool and the other ended up being played by oldies DJ's at mixers for middle aged english people. You can claim Plastic Betrand (Sort of. It's complicated) did it first but it's never going to really matter.
alapin Oct 26th 2011 4:45AM
Its not so much that most forgot it, I would probably say that a good number of people probably never had their hands on a copy of either (especially all the 6-10 year olds running around on their e-bay tank toons). I only had access to WC II because of a step sibling, and even then I never found much joy in the alliance campaign. Besides, using two catch phrases with only one word difference isn't all that interesting. I much prefer the phrase "The Might of the Alliance" as it makes them sound more powerful and over compensates for them having almost all the races that need a 3' ladder just to slap you across the face or nip at your heels when you tick them off. Plus then I can call my druid a "Mighty Morphin Alliance" character.
paideiadk Oct 26th 2011 8:47AM
@Murdertime: Bad example.. I have never heard Jet Boy, Jet Girl before and even though I'm 30 I hardly think I qualify as middle-aged or English for that sake. Ca plane pour moi is a classic!
A better example if you insist om music, might be Hallelujah. Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley's versions respectively.

To be fair, can you imagine if they didn't introduce Gnomes until a later expansion and then did a gameplay trailer which entirely featured the cute little guys and girls running around with their candyfloss hair, making cute laughs and emotes while jumping around?
It would have the exact same reaction as this. Everyone would be damning it as World Of HelloKittyCraft.
Imagine if the Pandaren had instead been in the game from the very beginning, would there be such an outcry? Most likely not.
I think what Blizzard did wrong with the preview trailer, was focus entirely on the new race and that's what caused such an uproar amongst fans. To show a video where you have a bunch of cartoony pandas bouncing around doing kung fu for a couple of minutes, and then afterwards start mentioning "Oh and also there's like this total war between the Horde and Alliance." then people aren't going to really pick up on that, they're gonna see an expansion of bouncy, cartoony pandas.
What I think Blizzard should've done was have the entire gameplay trailer show the war between the Horde and Alliance escalating, to see The Horde taking action that stirs the Alliance to unify and push back. If they had shown that, then the playerbase would've been so impassioned and excited, that the final part of the trailer showing the new continent and finally just a little bit about the Pandaren would not have gotten such a negative reaction out of so many players.
Just my opinion.

Pandaren are big. Burly. They're goddamn BEARS. They have sharp teeth and claws and will kick the ever-lovin' snot outta you. Kid's stuff, my ass.
