The legendary rogue-only daggers coming in
patch 4.3, the
Fangs of the Father, bring an epic quest line and a cool cosmetic effect with them. But of course, you or a rogue you know will want them for one thing and one thing only: the proc. And here it is in all its glory:
Shadows of the Destroyer.
Not only is it a permanent (if variable and requiring some buildup) agility boost, but it'll also periodically explode to immediately grant you 5 combo points and cause your finishers to also generate 5 combo points for 6 seconds. Now, the only downer here is that it doesn't make your finishers cost 0 energy, so you probably won't be able to fully take advantage of those 6 seconds, but it's still a damn good proc.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

Nice proc. Will make us focus alot considering energy, existing cp's etc. Will actually make us pay attention again instead of playing a never ending rotation . Very nice.

Proc looks real good but the numbers on that agility buff seem a bit underwhelming. in comparison to Shadowmourne, which granted 30 strength a stack but to 10. And that was basically a full expansion back. 200 stat difference just seems...low, like basically getting a second flask. Cool but not Dragonwrath level awesome. Id honestly like to see a bit more time on the proc as well. This is supposed to be the end all be all weapon that closes the gap for us in the next tier. I don't think its quite there. Still PTR though so maybe they'll tweak the numbers up a bit.

...it's 15, that stacks a MINIMUM of 30 times (15*30=450) before it will start the proc. It can do a maximum of 50 stacks (15*50=750). That is a not-insignificant buff. Get your head outta your ass.
danarok Oct 26th 2011 7:40AM
If you read the article, it's actually 17 agi/stack.
30*17 = 510 min
50*17 = 850 max
Assuming the proc stack-reset occurs around a median of ~40 stacks, you're talking about an equivalent average passive of ~20 stacks, which is 340 agi. But then again, this is of course just gravy on the following 6 secs of finisher-spam.

@Fletcher: QQ
@twbrienn: Remember they're nerfing Dragonwrath, so they're probably looking to keep from making the "way too overpowered" mistake again, and just stick to regular overpowered.

That's a great proc for combat and it's I gots too much energy problems.
Except I have a couple of suspicions
1. The nature of the proc is meant to make up for the weakness combat has with dagger.
2. Eviscerate will continue to remain the saddest thing ever.
Narlic Oct 26th 2011 9:22AM
We haven't seen any rogue changes yet, so maybe they'll help sad-old-eviscerate a bit?
ZeroDesu Oct 26th 2011 6:44AM
Just realized, this would be a great way to chain-refresh our abilities. Fresh stack of S&D at max, fresh stack of Recup at max...
shadowhowl1900 Oct 26th 2011 8:05AM
way too OP for arena
vocenoctum Oct 26th 2011 1:20PM
Sort of depends on how quick it builds up and falls off, I think. (Not sure if the stacks fall off after 6 seconds, or just the finisher buff.)
I don't arena, but if it takes a while to build up to 30 stacks and they drop off at a fair rate, you probably wouldn't want a rogue beating on you for that long ANYWAY.

The proc looks amazing, but for assassination spec rogues, I can see us possibly having to clip envenoms to get the full effect out of this proc if S&D and Rupture are already ticking for plenty of damage. Could it possibly be worth it to pop an Expose Armor and spam Eviscerate until the enevenom buff ends, then refresh envenom, then go back to eviscerate?
Grovinofdarkhour Oct 26th 2011 10:48AM
Make it make finishers cost 0 energy for 6 sec too! My rogue wants Total Spaz Mode!!!
Chance Oct 26th 2011 11:10AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you just get finishers basically free for those 6 seconds? Proc explodes, you get 5 CP and 6 seconds of finisher buff. Use finisher, consume 5CP but gain 5CP, repeat till buff is gone.
Eyhk Oct 26th 2011 12:37PM
Finishers still cost energy albeit less for some. So yes you can as long as you have the energy to
rapsam2003 Oct 26th 2011 12:35PM
The tooltip you linked says, that after 30stacks, there's a chance of losing all stacks AND getting 5CPs (while your finishing moves also grants 5CPs) for 6sec. So, the proc is by no means permanent.
Elzam Oct 26th 2011 12:05PM
Remember when the Shadowmourne proc was nerfed like three times on PTR and finally hit live in a state that only Ret Paladins / DKs could make minor use of it by using old BC mods that turned OFF the final Strength proc?
The times they are a'changin.
ScrubRogue Oct 26th 2011 1:22PM
This concerns me a little....as an avid arena player with no possible access to these daggers, I wonder if there will be a wall created between teams with legendaries and teams without...
It would worry me more if I was a top player, basically means to keep top you have to raid.
Bumblebee Oct 29th 2011 2:01PM
Well, did Dragonwrath do this? A lot bigger audience was able to get those, so has that one caused problems? I think people are overstating the amount of legendaries in game. It's a very small minority who actually even end up getting them.
hshaft Oct 31st 2011 10:04AM
The tooltip doesn't say what actually causes the Shadows of the Destroyer (Agility) buff to stack. Is it on a melee swing? A melee hit? Or does it just start stacking on it's own once you're in combat? If so, how quickly does it stack up? Yes, the Fury of the Destroyer buff is certainly quite delicious, but I'm rather curious about how the Shadows buff stacks.
