Pandaria to eschew capital cities for scattered vendors, separate faction hubs

We will have separate player hubs for both the Horde and Alliance on Pandaria. Separate hubs means we do not have to make them sanctuary and will encourage world PVP. These hubs will have access to an AH, Bank and general vendors. Valor, conquest, profession and faction vendors will be scattered around the world to encourage travel.

One of the current issues discouraging World pvp is the presence of highly overpowered guards around cities and hubs, 1-shotting anyone who engages in pvp. How will this be in MoP?

We know this is an issue in the current game and we plan to address it in Mists. We want to encourage world PVP, not make it a one-shot game for npc guards. This is one of the main reasons we decided to make two separate player hubs instead of a shared sanctuary.
I was personally pretty stoked to see the separate hubs for each faction, but what's more interesting is the emphasis not only on world PVP (which suggests these hubs may be more village-like, sparsely guarded enough to allow for PVP), but on the idea that many profession, badge, and PVP reward vendors will be scattered across the continent. If you played back in The Burning Crusade, you're already probably familiar with heading to Nagrand or Netherstorm to grab your honor gear, and with the piles of skeletons surrounding the various vendors. Pandaria may herald a return to these days, as people not only get out of capital cities but leave them behind altogether. The days of running circles in Orgrimmar or Stormwind may be coming to a close.

First, id like to say, that it would be nice if they got rid of some of the guard at org and stormwide.
Secondly, Im happy about this as I miss world PVP.

*stormwind... how I typed out stormwide is beyond me. Im so ashamed. :p

Your capital city is sooooo fat....

I am all for world PvP coming back. I am one of the few who pitches in when the opp faction hits our cities/small towns. However I am not liking the ideas of them being able to level the QUEST hubs. Unless all the quest givers are off limits, then it's cool. It's all rainbows and butterflies the first toon thru but when you are on your 3rd-10th time thru it will get old when the questgivers are down.

@Noyou "However I am not liking the ideas of them being able to level the QUEST hubs."
I agree with this. I don't mind when my quest hub turns into a slideshow extravaganza just because World PvP often overwhelms my old graphic card. However, I do mind when the quest givers decide to participate in the skirmish and refuse to stand still long enough for me to turn in the quest and properly assess which quest reward to get.
I felt the Tarren Mill vs Southshore fighting back in Vanilla really did add flavor to the region, so I have no problem with World PvP. Unfortunately, griefers made a point of repeatedly killing off quest givers and flight masters. Blizzard should set it so that only guard NPCs flag themselves for combat, and teach the quest giving NPCs to retreat for cover inside buildings or something.

I see what you did there, the Ordo Firstus is aware of you Marius.

la la la.. I, ummm, yeah.. pretty birds, over there. Look at them. They are so pretty, aren't they? :p
Ok fine.. that is what I did and I was typing so fast to get it to be first and why stormwind was called stormwide.. not that I still fully understand how my fingers went to wide instead of wind. Still ashamed, but proud of my clever first!! :P yeah?

Three days into MoP, when I can't quest because a few max level members of the opposing faction chain kill the NPCs, I don't blame the griefers, I blame Blizz for creating an environment in which it is possible. Don't hate the griefer; hate the devs.
thedoctor2031 Oct 28th 2011 12:23PM
Hate both?
dragnmastr85 Oct 28th 2011 9:42PM
Want to make it more interesting? Make it so a faction can't interact with a vendor /quest giver if the opposing factor is already engaged.

@Dragnmastr85
Like Halaa, on a larger scale?
thpthpthp1 Nov 1st 2011 5:05PM
How about not making quest npcs like.. level 30 surrounded by lvl 85 guards.. I don't understand that.
Rojer Nov 1st 2011 7:03PM
@dragnmastr85 lol nice but when they cant kill the questgiver cause u've engaged it they will kill you instead
Noah Oct 27th 2011 8:46PM
This should be interesting. I can't wait to see the fights break out in these cities, and around the valor and profession NPC's way out of the hubs. I'm not that into PvP, but this has got me excited.
For the horde!
Lee Weaver Oct 28th 2011 4:08AM
if you want to PvP then transfer to a PvP server. otherwise stand up to the idiots at bliz for this. I was so excited about MoP until they released this info.

Remember all those nights of amazing pvp around Halaa and the towers around Auchindoun and EPL and in Hellfire Peninsula?
No?
Yeah - because those were a pain in the arse if your server is faction-imbalanced, which most are now after a couple of years of transfers.

"Remember all those nights of amazing pvp around Halaa and the towers around Auchindoun and EPL and in Hellfire Peninsula?"
Yes, I do, actually. Those were some good times, as frustrating as it was to be on the Horde (low-pop) side.
Flarebear Oct 27th 2011 8:48PM
Hehe, I remember getting into my realm's Halaa group every once and a while so we could take it back from our Alliance-dominated server. I enjoyed having those sorts of PvP objectives in the game - completely optional, but with decent rewards if you did participate.
I hope this change in MoP will allow me to participate in this sort of World PvP again. :)

I have to ask.
Where'd you get that avatar? Is it custom or just something you found?
