Without knowing what talents will become 'baseline', I dont think I can judge the new talent system accurately. It does seem that a fair ammount of choice has been removed, but as many people have said the hybrid spec is dead from the last change of the talent system. Personally I would have abandoned the fire/frost/arcane idea and replaced the lot with a 'mage' tree where you can pick and choose amongst all the talents (similar to the old Diablo II system), but that is probably almost impossible to balance, and would removed the interaction between talents to some extent. But then I like to play mages with more than the 'usual' skill set, and I always felt that the wow system lacked a certain flexibility for true customisation. My personal fear is now people will expect mages to change to what they want at the time, reguardless of the mages playing style.Oh and yes I think the talents show as is (and yes I know they will change before the time this goes live...IF it goes live), are tbh boring and uninteresting.90%+ of mages will have no brainer choices at most levels depending on what they are doing PVE/PVP wise. The choices I can see are 1 Frostjaw2 greater invis/cauterise depending on baseline talents3 is a almost true choice - depending on spec4 is a no brainer (wasnt that what this was meant to prevent) Ice barrier5 is more of a choice too - what variety of poly do you want. I think I would stick to heavy myself for the stun, although the others (esp 2x poly) have potenial and all can be useful in the correct circumstances6 is slow although the others have some more utility esp in PVPObviously my choices are for a PVE build (arcane) but depending on your spec and purpose - ie a fire PVP build would choose differently, but I would not be surprised if the spec builds quickly have a cookie cutter version for each boss fight in future. Personally I feel this is not the way to go, as having to change you spec choices for each fight just takes you OUT of the immersion in the game where I personally like to be. removing me from that for game mechanics is something imho to be avoided, not encouraged. I can imagine a lot of guilds having 10 min breaks for everyone to rechoose before each boss fight - and a few more mins after each wipe while people 'tinker' with their choices to get the optimal fit.
