WRUP: WRUP of Horrors XVII
Saturday, Oct. 22 Like many of my fellow WoW Insider writers, I start to feel a slight tickle at the back of my throat. The BlizzCon Flu! As the day wears on, my skin starts feeling itchy and, in some select areas, starts to fall off. I consider calling my primary care physician on return to Boston.
Sunday, Oct. 23 For some reason, a trip to Jack in the Box doesn't seem to sate my appetite. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, I throw Basil Berntsen down to the ground, crack his skull open, and start feasting on his delicious brains. It has nothing to do with me wanting to steal the rest of his Gold Capped columns from him, I swear.
Monday, Oct. 24 New editor-in-chief Alex Ziebart makes an executive decision to lock me in a closet "for my own safety."
Tuesday, Oct. 25 Fellow WoW Insider writer Tyler Caraway is shoved into the closet with me. My first instinct is to eat him, so that's what I do. I remain hungry immediately after, as his body carries on it absolutely no meat nor nutritional value.
Wednesday, Oct. 26 Apparently, the BlizzCon Flu has gone full-on epidemic in Anaheim. I hear the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland is finally entertaining, if not slightly inappropriate for children under the age of 13 (on account of the surprisingly realistic murdering and blood and brain eating, you understand).
Thursday, Oct. 27 Apparently, Taylor Lautner has been here in the closet this whole time! Being hungry, I eat him.
Friday, Oct. 28 Since I haven't heard from Alex in a while, I shamble out of the poorly barricaded closet. My moisturizer seems ill-equipped to handle the level of dryness my skin has succumbed to -- it's still falling off in chunks. My ability to solve simple puzzles and think rationally seems strangely impaired, if not gone entirely. Sadly, the only thing my quickly decomposing brain is still able to handle is ... compiling What aRe yoU Playing.
This week's bonus question: Now that we've seen so much information about the new Mists of Pandaria expansion, what has you the most excited about it?
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) Now that BlizzCon is over, it's time to break out the power tools and BUILD ALL THE THINGS. Winter projects are awesome. Most exciting bit? Man ... just that kind of giddy feeling I haven't felt since vanilla. I'm really happy we're going someplace completely and utterly foreign from what we've seen before -- I like exploring the world. And yeah, this may sound weird, but I'm really excited that we won't be able to fly until max level. Call me crazy, but I liked being grounded in the world until I earned the right to fly in it.
Chase Hasbrouck (@alarondruid) Due to weak internet, playing through my collection of underappreciated DS games. Monster Tale, despite the cutesy appearance, is a solidly constructed Metroidvania platformer, with leveling elements. Well worth a look.
Bonus: The new talent system. Love the idea of picking talents on a per-fight basis. Hate that people will try to craft a "one size fits all" set and stick with it.
Daniel Desmond (@hazmacewillraid) This Friday the sequel to the 4X space game that I have been playing with Matt Walsh and another friend, Sword of the Stars 2, comes out! I will probably be playing as my favorite race, the Liir, a bunch of space dolphins.
Bonus: I think what I'm most excited about for MoP is the fact that we get a whole new continent for 85-90. The higher level zones in Cataclysm were too scattered and isolated for my tastes.
Daniel Whitcomb (@DanielWhitcomb) I'm heading out of town this weekend to a friend's big Halloween costume party and karaoke bash. I am going as white-water rafting leprechaun Abed from Community. If you know what I am talking about, good job. You are amazing. As far as MoP goes, I'm torn between basically wandering through Avatar: The Last Airbender (the cartoon, not the movie) in the form of Pandaria's new zones, or becoming a Battle Pet monster and pwning everyone in sight with my stable of pets. I'm still pulling for Alliance Balloon to be be trainable.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) (gplus.to/foxvanallen) Still working off the BlizzCon Flu. Doctor's recommendation: Plenty of sleep, the occasional video game, and maybe a cough syrup martini.
Joe Perez (@lodurzj) Trying to shake a serious case of the con crud. I got the door prize of "teh sick" after BlizzCon. Despite that though, I've just replaced my Xbox, so I will be pouring some serious time into Batman: Arkham City. While I run around busting heads in game, I'll be screaming out "I'M Batman!" IRL because I'm that kind of a dork.
I'm most excited for the monk class. Tanking, DPS and healing all in one? Yes, please! A healing model that breaks the normal system of healing? Yes, please again! Evasion tanking through the power of my alcohol? You had me at hello.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) It's the busiest week of the year at work, so when I'm not totally brain-dead, I'm playing Radiant Historia on my DS and trying to balance my schedule to play the Portal 2 DLC with my "partner in science." At BlizzCon, the premiere of MoP literally had me jumping up and down and screaming like a schoolgirl. That being said, I am excited for everything! Also, I am going to make a Tauren mistwalker monk so fast it'll make your head spin.
Mat McCurley (@gomatgo) (gplus.to/gomatgo) It's been a week without League of Legends, and I'm back into it full on.
Matt Low (@matticus) Currently playing Heroes of Might and Magic VI. Looooove the franchise. Wish more could be done with it in terms of spin-offs and whatnot.
Bonus: The monk class. I have difficulty coming up with a name for my monk.
Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) I'll be spending most of Friday night calling Dan Desmond a "dirty flipper" on Mumble while we play Sword of the Stars 2. I also need to continue the hit parade of leveling my druid. He's on the cusp of 81 and ready to get out there and be my herbing monkey for my main's alchemy.
Michael Gray (@writegray) This weekend's going to be a busy one. My mother-in-law is in town and we're having a big Halloween party. Wahooooo.
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) Extended birthday celebrations for The Spawn (@thespawnsays) and my father being in town will take up most of my time. But we have the Candy Run on Sunday for It came from the Blog, and I'll be happily doing that after kicking the family out of the house.

Who knew the Balloons would evoke so many jokes?

Fallout 3 and its addons. That is when I am trying not to wet my jeans watching "Hallowen", by John Carpenter. Good thing the lights are on and there is plenty of electricity left on my met...
Wait a minute, who is that at the door? Hello David, back from camping in Yorkshire are we? Damn, you need a shave and your teeth are a bit longish, old son. What, what are you doing? Egads!!!
Thomas Higgins Oct 29th 2011 7:33PM
Name your monk something like Orlandu, Matt old son, like the immortal T.G Cid character was called in Final Fantasy Tactics, (well, I made him a Monk in the game. Massive stats)

I love that Fox is starting a zombie apocalypse. XD

Ha.

My Tauren monk's name (already reserved and copyrighted!*) is going to be Yingmooyang. Each of my Ysera cows has to have moo in their name! Moocrusade, Elemoontal, Mentalmoo.
*Not really copyrighted but please don't take it! I like being a unique butterfly! :(

>"I hear the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland is finally entertaining..."
>implying the Haunted Mansion isn't already entertaining

So, out of curiosity, when you eat someone, do you bite off chuncks from their body, or do you unhinge your jaw like a python and swallow them whole?
Kurash Oct 29th 2011 9:15PM
I vote for swallowing whole. That way there's all kinds of potential for cartoony hijinx if something gets stuck in your throat. Like a snake who swallowed a bowling ball!
Noselacri Oct 30th 2011 12:26AM
Knowing Fox, he swallows them whole.
Aldarion Oct 30th 2011 6:47AM
I'm so going to hell for this: But isn't it like deep-throating then?
Hih Oct 29th 2011 9:21PM
Holy ****. That youtube video. Wow. Wow. Why did the 80s happen? That happened. What did I just watch?
VioletArrows Oct 29th 2011 9:38PM
All the Diablo III news/temptation reminded me that I have Torchlight. So I'm getting back into that. I love the mods that people have come up with.
Though after today's adventure (makeover party!!! *gag* only for my sister will I subject myself to this insipid femininity) , I'll probably just sleep all of Sunday.

Nobody says they are most excited for the Pandaren race. As for me, what has me most excited is that the final villain is totally a surprise and not handed out to us. I hope MoP is like a classic scooby-doo where the alliance/horde is at like all out war, and in the end we pull the mask off (or in WoWs case, form a raid) and discover who the real badguy was all along.
I hope the Pandaren fail in their efforts to bring peace. I've been waiting for all-out faction war for a while now.
Thomas Higgins Oct 30th 2011 2:38AM
Oh. Well you and I are on opposing sides on this. I hate the whole Alliance vs Horde thing. It makes no sense that we are still fighting that battle whilst Deathwing is flapping around on big leathery wings flambeeing all and sundry. Meanwhile, the real threat, Sargeras and the rest of his Burning Legion is being completely forgotten about, given what I have read of this next expansion pack.
Oh I know, the game reason for more conflict between the factions is because there are limited resources and all that jazz, but it is really so Blizzard can push folks towards pvp.
To stop us seeing things in common with folks on the other side of the fenceline. I do not hate the Horde as such, I hate the fact it harbors zombie scum who should be eradicated for the threat that they pose to their own continued existence.
