I still remember my first time playing WoW back in 2005 or 2006 (I can't remember...). I hadn't played a video game since Atari back in the early 80's. Heard about WoW on an NPR segment and was curious.Tried it out and was immediately mesmerized. Had no CLUE what I was doing, but I was engrossed and thoroughly amazed at the sheer greatness of this game. On a humorous note, I remember my character dying (a lot) and not realizing I could rez walk to my corpse. I kept restarting the game and making a new character. Also, it took me about four weeks to make it to level 20. lol, good times.

Interesting. I first tried WoW in 2005 and had pretty much the exact opposite reaction. I couldn't believe anyone would play such a primitive and ugly game with such poor graphics quality and boring, tedious, uncreative gameplay. Alas, I hadn't been away from video games since the Atari days; in fact I had been playing in the Guild Wars beta for a few months. Obviously I did eventually start playing WoW (or I wouldn't be here), but not until 2009, after I'd played GW to death. When I came back, shortly after Wrath was released, I could see the game had improved somewhat, but was still very far from GW in quality. I've since gotten into it, and will probably be buying MoP the day it's released, even if I'm playing GW2 (I've never been the "I can only play one game at a time" kind of person), but I still find WoW often frustrating and miss the higher quality of other games in the genre. I think WoW appeals more to the "MMO gourmand" who wants a large helping of content, whereas GW and some other games appeal to the "MMO gourmet" who appreciates quality of the content more than quantity of content.
