No, we don't get to have our WoW Yoda. Goblins can't be monks. Neither can worgen for that matter, which makes no sense considering the worgen would be all about fighting with their own bare claws...

I'm going to roll a Gnome Monk *just* to spite the Goblins.

My bet for this is a gameplay reason in the Blizzard sense. They JUST did those, and it looks like the older races are going to need a serious over-haul to support monk animations. Its hard to justify redoing something they just did.Which makes me wonder...if we get the new human models, will Worgen keep their old ones? How are those linked? How does the server read them for display? Hm....

I think the reason we aren't getting Worgen and Goblin monks has more to do with the 1-20 starting experiences.I imagine the amount of work necessary for updating the phased, super-specifically programmed Worgen and Goblin starting zones with an additional class is probably not worth it.I'd actually like to see Monks (those that aren't Pandaren, anyway) get their own starting zone experience like Death Knights did, but that might be hoping for too much.

What Luotian said.Anne also has pointed out how conspicuous it is that all races but the most recent get to be monks, likely because the monk-specific animations (such as the roll) will require new models built to accomodate them.
I still think gnomes should get Paladins as well. They have warriors, they have priests... and they're still minus one race/class combo compared to everyone else.Hunters would be an option most could agree with, although if they don't allow them to ride their pets, then it's not worth doing.

I'm in full agreement with matt

There's a very valid lore reason for it too. Both of those start zones are instanced in their own little 'pocket universes' and take place BEFORE the Pandaren come out to teach monkery to the Alliance and Horde. This is one of those rare cases where the lore AND gameplay are in synergy with one another.

Ripping people apart is not hitting with will timed blunt jabs and slams.Worgen: torn and bloody, decidedly gory.Monk: Bruises and concussions, less messy.
Fixing the starting zones would simply be a matter of adding a Monk Trainer in with the other trainers. Here's my theory:Pandaren have 10x the joints as the old races. The monk is an extremely fluid class in its motions. All races except Goblin and Worgen are getting new models. Deductive reasoning can then logically conclude the update is necessary to make the models compatible with the new class. Goblin and Worgen are being left out as far as I can tell because they are too new basically to bother with allocating the resources for a minor upgrade when the other races will benefit more from their major upgrades.

@Matt: My sister would kill for a Gnome Paladin. She wants one so badly, she just about cries every time I get on my dwarf shaman-- the race/class combo I wanted most-- and she still doesn't have a gnome paladin.

@ Matt:If they give us Gnome Paladins, I'm going to wonder where my Orc Priests are!
11-01-2011 @ 12:15PM
@Nopunin10did, one of the blue posts I read implied, or at least I interpreted it as implying that monks of all races may start in the Pandaren starting zone.
11-01-2011 @ 12:51PM
@Nadia:Orcs have 7 playable classes (8 with monks) Gnomes have 6 playable classes (7 with monks) I don't get your reasoning that orcs would need priests if gnomes got Paladins. Paladins are warrior/priest combination. Gnomes can be both, and are short (heh) a race/class combination. Paladins make sense.Orcs lack this shortcoming, and have no reasoning behind adding priests.

@ LoutianI think they'll just keep the old human model for worgensA) to make their lives easierB) to further encourage people to keep themselves in Worgen form (I know alot of people that will switch back to human form in between fights/pulls)
11-01-2011 @ 1:09PM
@JwblairThe Blizzcon Q&A implied that only Pandaren would start on the turtle. Other racial monks would have trainers there as if they were always there with no real story explaining it. Possibly, we'll see some minor explanation like the Troll Druid during the Echo Isle event.

My theory is that Goblins and Worgens can't be monks for one reason: They just came out. Blizzard does not want to devote resources to going back and redoing their animations to support the myriad new moves the Monk class needs. This is, however, a golden opportunity to revamp and update the older character models. They're going to need all the ninja moves of the Monk, so why not give them a full workover in the process? So yes, I think the new character models are coming with 5.0.My two cents.

Worgen druids fight with their bear claws all the time.
