GuildOx shares the most popular WoW character names by class

Warriors
- Glitterstorm
- Cleaveland
- Ragebar
- Brostorm
- Cleaveage
- Ragestarved
- Sunderwear
- Executie
- Skillstorm
- Sunderpants
Glitterstorm at the top of the list is surprising. Maybe it's a reference that I am missing. Sunderwear and Executie are particularly inspired, however. Notice that every single one of the top warrior names has either rage or a skill name in it, which just goes to show you that the prevalence of puns in online games vastly, vastly outweighs the immersion factor. Not that I'm complaining, of course, but please excuse me while I go save Sunderwear on my server for a future Pandaren warrior.
Paladins
- Bubbleøseven
- Palatinus
- Judgemental
- Layonhooves
- Phailadin
- Bovinestorm
- Bulladin
- Unstopbubble
- Thrasius
- Popmybubble
"Bubble" is the popular paladin, well, everything. Bubble this, bubble that. It's been almost seven years of bubble jokes. Unstopbubble and Bubbleøseven are the clear originality winners here, with Popmybubble just being lazy. Bubbleøseven ... hehe. I get it.
Some paladins will have to help me out with Thrasius, but are you guys referencing the Warhammer 40k character? Because if so, that's awesome.
Hunters
- Arrowdynamic
- Dontlosmebro
- Actæon
- Eatshot
- Idtrapthat
- Badshot
- Jæger
- Bowme
- Aktaion
- Autoshots
On the other end of the spectrum, you have Eatshot and Bowme, both hilarious in their own right but just not as prop-deserving as Actæon. Arrowdynamic works when you have a bow, but what happens when you equip a gun? My immersion! Interestingly enough, only one of the most popular names for hunters references traps. I really expected more than that.
Rogues
- Hemotherapy
- Recuperate
- Picksprocket
- Mercader
- Envenom
- Sapntap
- Backstabbath
- Altaìr
- Sapntickle
- Daggz
Here's a true story: I had a rogue that I server transfered and renamed "Shankers." A few minutes after I loaded up for the first time, "Shankerz" with a "z" messaged me and accused me of stealing the name. Take a picture of your face after reading that sentence again and look at it. That's the face I was making.
Priests
- Crossblesser
- Vescovo
- Powerwordhug
- Shortonheals
- Bandagespec
- Faithmelter
- Praystation
- Vanhealin
- Healium
- Deepfriar
Death knights
- Lichborne
- Scourgelord
- Nexmilitis
- Moraear
- Lichslapped
- Acherus
- Plagueknight
- Mydk
- Frozenknight
- Getoverhere
We need some more originality in death knight names. My friend had a frost DK named Chillaxe. That's funny. Use that one over Plagueknight or Scourgelord, please. I named my death knight Benihana after the greatest restaurant in the entire universe, Benihana. I want to see better death knight names. Death knight, I am disappoint.
Shaman
- Beershock
- Shampon
- Shocknorris
- Shockolate
- Shampayne
- Budlightning
- Shockaholic
- Shammurai
- Alestrom
- Beeroism
Another thing to note is that there is no Bloodlust references. None. Zero. This is surprising to me because I thought that this list was going to be 10 variations of Bloodlust-inspired puns. I am actually kind of sad.
Mages
- Grimsheeper
- Foodspec
- Portals
- Sheepwithme
- Mageulook
- Harryportal
- Fröstitute
- Merlìn
- Refreshments
- Pyrophobia
Two names stuck out as the best in the mage category -- Harryportal and Mageulook. Harryportal might not be the most original of the bunch, but I still can't help but laugh. Mageulook is just fun, as long as your immersion isn't completely ruined.
Merlìn? Really? Namechange.
Warlocks
- Waerloga
- Lockybalboa
- Fearoshima
- Draintrain
- Soldursoul
- Dotctor
- Warlokholmes
- Wreckquiem
- Taterdotz
- Benaflock
There are a lot of Lockybalboas out there. Dotctor is amusing, but my favorite of the top 10 warlock names definitely has to go to Taterdotz if only for the Napoleon Dynamite images that it conjures up. Now all warlocks are Napoleon Dynamite. Demonology skills ... affliction skills ...
Druids
- Voodrood
- Treesus
- Owlkapwn
- Starsurge
- Owlcapone
- Thornstar
- Owlcapwn
- Menopaws
- Clawandorder
- Restofarian
What is most interesting is that druid names span the entirety of the druid talent and spec choices. Each spec is represented on the list, from resto, balance, and feral. Bear tanks, however, are not. Clawandorder comes close, but not close enough. Where are all my bear tank druid puns?
Thanks again, GuildOx, for this awesome information. I can't wait to see what they throw at us next.

What? No Retbull? You're missing out on Wings, bro!
Drahken Nov 2nd 2011 6:02PM
inorite? I would have sworn up and down that Retbull and Holycow would have been in there somewhere.
Donhorn Nov 2nd 2011 6:39PM
Yeah, I mean even I have a token RetBull in my roster! XD

I'm calling shenanigans on this entire list. First, I'm pretty sure that you can't use numbers in your name (BubbleØseven?... or does that zero count as an acceptable extended ascii character?). Second, I know for a fact that every single server in all of wow has a character named "Pyro," and anyone who has that name and isn't a fire mage needs to d.i.a.f. Third, there are some names with accented letters. Really? those are the ones that are the most common?
Also, there are a few others that stand out as missing. Legolas (or lolegolas) for hunters, Arthas for DK's, dotdotdot for locks (seriously, every warlock name has a "dot" somewhere in it).
Maybe this is like an artifact of dead accounts and dead names that are no longer listed on the armory? Because I have a very hard time believing that Pyro, Retbull, and Loldk are not in the "most common" names.

makes me glad only one of my characters names showed up here bovinestorm the rest are actually names, i felt like i needed a joke name for a change.

@Pyro
That "Ø" isn't a zero, it's a scandanavian letter, so presumably just as valid as all the "i" with funny dots/accents.
On the whole though, I sort of agree with you. The lack of raw data/source hurts the article. Most likely, someone at GuildOx did the search for "top 100 names for classes", then cherrypicked the most punny/funny (which to my eyes are different things).
NekoDaimyo Nov 2nd 2011 7:43PM
@Pyromelter
Trick is, the Ø isn't a zero. It's a "slashed O", and of a Scandinavian origin.
Wikipedia can tell us such wonderful things.

What's interesting is I just did a small search myself because of this list. At first I thought this list must have used too small of a sample size because half the shaman names are obviously Dwarves which are newest to shaman world. I think Shaman just tend to pick more original names so those lazy dwarves won out. I also have seen many other more popular nicks, but in my small search I realized that this is sorted by class and what people use for their class and not just the popularity of the names in general.
For instance, there are indeed more Retbulls than Bubbleøseven. HOWEVER, this ranking is by class and nearly a fourth of the Retbull's are level 1 of various other classes, which means that there are more Bubbleøseven paladins than Retbull paladins.
Pyro brought up an interesting point and there are more Pyro toons than nearly any on the list for mages (heck, Harryportal is under 100 toons), but I didn't even make it past the third page before realizing that Pyro is just a very common internet nick (heck, I'm icepyro, formerly vampyro, formerly several other pyro based nicks) and that there are a lot of people who I've seen use those kind of nicks as toon names (I don't, the only icepyro was a DK I made for ICftB events). Yeah, by page 3 of viewing 25 at a time, I saw enough non mage Pyro toons to account for any difference between most of the mage nick counts and the nick Pyro.
very interesting list indeed.

From what I understand, names like "Arthas" are blocked the moment a server is created. I think certain other 'offensive' words are simply outright blocked as well, along with a few common variations. Likely, just enough to frustrate any would-be d-bags into just choosing something more mainstream.
Like Shampon.
Seriously?

I have a DK named "Brakeyoface" , a Worg Druid named "Therianthrop" and my wife plays a mage named "Mageyourday"
mrtomhimself Nov 5th 2011 4:11AM
Some of my favorite names that I haven't seen:
Burninator- Mage (he was a dragon....he was a dragon man)
Bearcatcow- Druid (Tauren respectably)
flawless Nov 3rd 2011 11:04AM
Don't forget that the list of names is limited to characters over level 10.
Sure, Retbull was first on everyones list when Tauren paladins came around. How many of the people that sniped the name actually bothered levelling the character past 10?
jakobbarnwell Nov 7th 2011 5:08PM
My mage is named Snówjob, I too think this list is outdated or somehow incorrect. The amount of "Snowjob"s in the armory is scary.
blazenor Nov 2nd 2011 5:06PM
Come on man, Glitterstorm? Really?!?!
Udderpowered Nov 2nd 2011 5:27PM
Blood elves can be warriors now.
Charron Nov 2nd 2011 5:28PM
Bladestorm + Tabard of the lightbringer ( the Shadowmourne quest reward tabard) is the only thing that came to mind, as I have that macroed myself! :)
No legolas for hunters? Was surprised.
Rufin Nov 2nd 2011 5:44PM
Blood Elf + Bladestorm = Glitterstorm
blazenor Nov 2nd 2011 5:44PM
As bad as I think Glitterstorm is, most if not all DK names are bad (still looking for a good DK name).
Pyromelter Nov 2nd 2011 7:09PM
I don't necessary have a good DK name. But I have a great DK surname, if you want to add to it:
Lichbane.
So maybe you'd be Blazelichbane. Yeah, it's not really funny or cool or witty, but I always thought of DK's being the bane of their former undead masters (see title: Bane of the Fallen King).
