Pretty damn interesting stuff Matt, Thanks.
When we look at the different elemental lords in relation to life and death some of this makes a lot of sense. Breaking down the elemental lords:
Neptulon, Elemental Lord Of Water, water being the most quintessential element of life. Neptulon is also the most powerful lord.
Thorazine, Elemental Lord Of Earth, earth being another quintessential element of life. She opposes Deathwing, much like Neptulon.
Al'Akir, Elemental Lord Of Air, further removed from life, and arguably more connected to fire, and definitely allied with Ragnaros and Deathwing. The weakest Elemental Lord.
Ragnaros, Elemental Lord of Fire, fire being one of the destrucive forces that ends the life cycle. Deathwing's most trusted lackey.
|Life| Neptulon ==> Therazine ==> Al'Akir ==> Ragnaros ==> |Death|
I'm curious though if the Naga, being the "cursed" Highborne, were "cursed" or saved by the Old Gods, why was it not Neptulon that they drew upon? Is this a possible reason for the contention between the Naga and Neptulon as well? That they should benefit from powers drawn from his plain but subverted his authority by going over his head? Or is it merely that Neptulon is aligned with life and order, or at least balance, which is contrary to the nature of the Old Gods? The Old Gods being all chaotic evil as it were...
It's also curious to me that Neptulon should help the Naga in their fight against the Trolls. Was their war with the Gurubashi a carry over from when they were elves?

Gotta disagree with you there. None of the Elemental Lords are friendly to life in the slightest. The only difference between Neptulon and Ragnaros, or Therazane and Al'Akir is that the enemy of my enemy is my firend, for exactly as long as said enemy is alive.
It is the nature of water to drown, of earth to crush, of fire to burn, and of wind to scour away.
It's also the nature of water to quench, of earth to nurture, of fire to warm, and of air to refresh.
It's all a matter of limits. The elements are good and wholesome in moderation (all of them!) and dangerous and destructive in excess. Floods bring rich loam for soil, earth holds seeds while they grow, fire clears away the old that the new might spring forth, and wind spreads seeds far and wide.

Well being that the Elemental Lords relish in chaos, it's interesting to me that any of them would align with Deathwing other than for convenience. On the flip side of that coin all of them were servants of the Old Gods at one point, (hence the reason they were bound by the Titans). Destroying all life on Azeroth would be counter productive, no life means a very static and unchanging world.
As for being hostile to life, well maybe? Maybe indifferent in some cases. All in all it seems as though their motivations are difficult to determine given what we know. Too I'd add that my original post is missing a crucial element, that the entire thing is cyclic. Which is kind of what Blizzard does. They create very cyclic story arcs.

You know what? I take it back. Not a god damn thing in any of theses stories really makes sense.

One thing I do have to point out, and I do believe the folks at Blizz have also stated it. The Old Gods are not evil, by any stretch. Nor are they good. They are just Chaos incarnate.
Chaos is neither good nor evil, it is just a state of existence, much like law. Chaos seeks to destroy, but it also seeks to create. Destroy what is there, create what was never supposed to be there.
Just as our natural universe constantly cycles between order and chaos. Nobody would call our universe in either state or any intermediary of the two good or evil, they just exist.
We see the Old Gods as evil because the total chaos they would bring is completely contrary to our ability to exist, but just because we see them as evil does not make them so.
