I've already stopped looking at the numbers themselves, somewhere in the BC-to-Wrath conversion. Now I just look at the distribution.

Does the gear have the type of main stat I want? Either it does, or it doesn't.
Does it have the other two stats I want? Either it does, or it doesn't.
Does it have more of stat X than the piece I'm comparing it to? If yes, then it's gold.

After I've done that entirely unscientific computation in my head, I just trust the game to do the actual math. Don't feel like I need to know whether I hit for 12,345 or 12,543, just need to know whether I hit the thing or not.
