Sinister Squashlings. Oh my God, you guys. I wound up with so many Sinister Squashling pets during Hallow's End. They were a curse. A
nightmare. Only the first one you get holds any value; each consecutive one that drops for you is simply a chore to delete. And since the drop rate of the pet was buffed through the roof, it seemed like every other candy grab or Headless Horseman attempt this year landed me another one.
If you're anything like me, a quick search of your bags will reveal five of the damn things you thought you deleted but apparently never did. Well, if that's the case, then we have
good news for you: Holiday pets like the Sinister Squashling, the
Feline Familiar, and the
Captured Flame are seeing their bind on pickup disclaimers removed in patch 4.3. The means any leftover Squashlings currently in your possession can be unloaded on the Auction House in few weeks' time. And come Winter Veil, any excess pets you get can be similarly saved and later sold.
We haven't heard anything official yet from Blizzard about the change (hat tip to
MMO-Champion for datamining this), but it seems like this is the first step toward the
Mists of Pandaria dynamic of having all
WoW pets be tradeable.
Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with patch 4.3. Review the official patch notes, and then dig into what's ahead: new item storage options, cross-realm raiding, cosmetic armor skinning and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing -- from astride his back!

Love how this comes out right AFTER the holiday. I made sure to get Creepy Crates and Squashlings on all my alts so I could sell those in MoP, but I didn't know they'd get unbound in 4.3 so I deleted my quadrillion Squashlings as I got them. :-/
richmale1969 Nov 4th 2011 2:23PM
Yeah I know the feeling. i deleted all my Squashlings too. It would've been nice to know this before the holiday.
johnthediver Nov 4th 2011 2:44PM
Yep. I deleted at least a dozen during hallows end.
Dimmak Nov 4th 2011 3:03PM
Ok, the bound on pick up is being removing HOWEVER those Sinister Squashlings are already bound from the first time you picked them up. I imagine future pets will not be bound but ones already bound rarely ever become unbound, but here's hoping..... I have 67 of these.

OK, this sucks. I was diligent about clearing the veritable pumpkin patch of squashlings from my bags. If I had had even an inkling that they might do this, I'd have kept every one of the 13 or so I got this year that I deleted.
This *really* sucks.
vocenoctum Nov 4th 2011 5:44PM
While it would've been nice, I gotta say the squashling is one of my least favorite pets. Assuming likewise that everone got tons of them, I'm not so sure there's someone out there that'd burn a lot (1k+ IMO) on them. If it's not a lot, then meh, no biggie.
Not that I'm disagreeing with you, just saying for this pet I doubt it matters.
The cat, maybe, though the box is a quest, so probably still bound?
Noyou Nov 4th 2011 5:52PM
OMG NOoooooooooooooooo! I was going to save 1 on each toon just for giggles. Until I deleted them! @#$Q@#%$!%. I still like the change. But /sigh. For reals? I might have one somewhere...
Amaxe Nov 5th 2011 1:32AM
Also deleted all my excess.
So while you're at it Blizz, going to unlock all the duplicate brewfest mounts we have?
Zanathos Nov 8th 2011 2:38AM
As common as squashlings were, they wouldn't have been retailing for much anyway
Caz Nov 4th 2011 2:03PM
Want time machine. To recover deleted pets. Thanks.
Or - GM ticket? Nah, I guess it's not that important.
roosterfish Nov 4th 2011 2:04PM
Great. Now I'm kicking myself for deleting the 11 Squashlings I found in my treat bags.
Seriously though, this is a good step.
ravyncat Nov 4th 2011 2:47PM
I deleted over 30. T_T
Ah well...there is always next year.
Arbolamante Nov 4th 2011 2:04PM
Pretty sure I deleted mine yesterday.
Magma Nov 4th 2011 2:05PM
YEEEESSSS! I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME!! I've hoarded pumpkin pets for years in anticipation.
...
MUAHAHAHAHA
Dreyja Nov 4th 2011 2:06PM
My hat goes off to you. I didn't listen to that little voice that urged me to caution. Blargh...
Naku Nov 5th 2011 3:00PM
You are my hero :)
Dreyja Nov 4th 2011 2:05PM
I SHOULD have kept them... In the back of my mind, I questioned myself. ARGH! DWARF-SMASH!
boil.san Nov 4th 2011 2:05PM
Well, that sucks, because I deleted ALL the extra Sinister Squashlings I got…
Which was about 5 or 6 beyond the one I could actually use…
/sadface
Hmm… Wonder if I could pester a GM with a ticket on that…?!? Nah, too much bother…!
Swifteye Nov 4th 2011 2:09PM
*sob*
I wish they had announced this before the holiday ended... I had enough Tricky Treats for another Feline Familiar after my main had already gotten hers; I absolutely would've bought another one to send to my baby Mage if I had only known!
*shakes fist* You win this round, Blizzard.......
Dankie Nov 4th 2011 2:49PM
Blizzard didn't announce it though. Mmo-champion broke the story this morning when one of their forum users discovered it, Boub had overlooked it when he went data mining.
Luckily wow insider actually cites their sources.
