Is there any verification, anywhere, that Alchemists will be able to transmute epic gems? There were rumblings about it a month ago, but I don't think anything has popped onto the PTR has it?

Well, that's because said recipe is just a placeholder. There's no guarantee that epic transmutes will be in the game, though if anything, I'd guess that epic transmutes will require epic gems.
