The Queue: Butterfly Wings
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Due to Alex Ziebart's having duplicates of the film I thought I'd destroyed, I (Matthew Rossi) will be fielding your questions today.
Human beings, or butterfly wings? I have yet to find the trigger for happiness. In the meantime, I'll answer questions!
Shrikesnest asks:
So I guess the DMF is up on the PTR today. Anybody wanna save me an enormous download and just tell me whether Tier 3 look-alikes are available through them? I wanna know if I need to run Naxx-25 on my priest or not...
As of right now, the only replicas available at the Darkmoon Faire on the PTR are the Dungeon Set 1 and 2 replicas. I spent over an hour combing the place just in case, and nope, if you want the original Naxx models you're going to need to either have them already or wait and see if Blizzard puts them on the DMF vendors at some point.

James asks:
With the addition of the Portable, Pint-Sized, Pocket Monsters, will we likely see an additional layer added to the system that allows our slaves-err, pets-err, companions--to evolve into more...well, visually pleasing miniature monsters? I just have this awesome idea that my Alliance balloon will evolve into Hindenburg; Hindenburg uses Conflagration! Hindenburg hits itself in confusion! It's super effective!
As far as is currently known (and feel free to check sites like WoW Pet Battles or WarcraftPets) you'll level your pets, but they won't become entirely new or "evolved" versions of themselves by doing so. You can see the interface that was displayed at BlizzCon, and keeping in mind it's purely a mock-up, it seems clear that pets won't change via evolution.
Cricket asks:
A few years back I took an extended break from WoW - nearly two years - and one of the reasons why I came back to the game had to do with the pervasive rumor that my characters would be deleted if my account stayed inactive too long. It seems silly, in a way, but is this something that happens? Or do abandoned accounts and characters ghost around the realms like some kind of pixely artifact?
Blizzard does not delete your characters if you cancel your account.
Deidare asks:
QftQ: Do you ever think that Blizzard will release a patch (or expansion) that would allow players to be able to play other types of races within their respective race? For example, being able to play wildhammer dwarves instead of bronzebeard? Or Dark Iron? I thought that Blizz would have done this for Cata, with all the treaties made and such. So would this ever be possible? And what about races like black orcs?
It depends on your definition of "play other types of races." You could fairly easily roll a Dwarf right now with a suitable complexion and hair color to be a Dark Iron Dwarf if you wanted to. As for Wildhammer, the only real stumbling block is the lack of tattoos for player Dwarf skins. Forest Trolls, Dragonmaw Orcs or warpainted Grimtotem Tauren would be a bit harder to swing, and deviations like Fel Orcs, Taunka or Broken Draenei would take an actual patch to make possible. Of course, you can always just ignore what the game is showing you and say what you like, but as for actual model changes, that will probably have to wait until the eventual model update (and probably won't be a priority even then).
Basically, I'm saying don't hold your breath, but don't rule it out either. Obviously, Dwarves with tattoos and Tauren with painted faces are in the game, so you never know if Blizzard will decide to make them accessible to players.
Brasson says:
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for the triumphant return of Sentry Totem.
Can I get an amen? I said, can I get an amen?
You better run, people. You are not prepared for Sentry Totem.

Changing the que times on me! You on-Arizonans confuse me so much...
And was the nerfing of sentry totem only a setback?
thedoctor2031 Nov 7th 2011 11:05AM
And of course I don't edit before I post, *non-arizonans*

I'm extremely lucky that phones and computers adjust themselves automatically. Growing up in Arizona completely nerfed my ability to comprehend DST.

Yay! I love your music choice. If I wasn't at work, I would be blasting it. ^^
Nadia Nov 7th 2011 12:05PM
I know! Haven't heard this song in years.
Off to Amazon to go and buy it, since it seems it doesn't exist in my player...

I have the single on CD. XD

I have to give more praise for Machines. All their albums are fantastic - it's a shame they didn't make it really big - they probably could have if not for Mammoth Records.

Has it been mentioned yet if the new DMF will now have easier ways to level rep with the DMF?
razion Nov 7th 2011 11:12AM
It was mentioned long ago that they were going to have a set of dailies assorted with them, and the turn-ins they require will be easier to come by during the time the Faire is available. I imagine Darkmoon Rep will be easier to get--I couldn't see them making it harder than it already is, if anything.
Abbadon Nov 7th 2011 11:20AM
But more importantly... Will do they have a tabard?!
Seriously... The DMF has one of the coolest tabards in the game! With the new dailies and whatnot, rep is gonna be easy enough already. So I don't expect the tabard to give rep in dungeons. In all honesty, it should be sold by a vendor for 50 tickets or so and require exalted with DMF to purchase.
VioletArrows Nov 7th 2011 11:27AM
The carnival games award 250 rep per turn in. One day and I was finally friendly with them. :p I forgot to see what the monthlies awarded. You can still however turn in the card decks there. He's now the archaeology monthly, as well.
I think the tabard is still your exalted prize. You can however buy a Darkmoon cape for a good bit of tickets.

My wife underwent the Insane grind earlier this year, and she is particularly livid at the thought that they would make the DMF portion easier.
RetPallyJil Nov 7th 2011 12:52PM
Tell your wife I sympathize. I could spit nails, I'm so angry about them giving away Dungeon Set 2 after I wasted the better portion of a year getting it.
Nina Katarina Nov 7th 2011 11:10AM
No way, Sentry Totem is way too OP.
Matthew Rossi Nov 7th 2011 12:27PM
"Level 34 brings the awesome, senses shattering might of Sentry Totem. Do not look directly at the Sentry Totem. It can see into your very soul. You may very well drop this totem in a Warsong Gulch sometime, it's just that powerful. Seriously, half the reason raids take shamans at all is that they covet the titanic power of Sentry Totem. Don't listen to their pleas: only drop this totem as a last resort, as it may well make warlocks and mages obsolete by the sheer fury and majesty of its planet splintering power. Quake, mortals, and feel the iron grasp of despair upon you, for Sentry Totem may be unleashed by a shaman at any time! I will be able to watch from some distance away as you one shot my totem!"
This may quite possibly be the best thing I ever wrote.
mariodcole Nov 7th 2011 12:57PM
Do not taunt happy fun sentry totem
Elmo Nov 7th 2011 1:06PM
It was, way back Sentry totem allowed shamans to float midair.

Not really a question for the Q as much as the readers. My main is an ilvl 364 resto shammy. I've never stepped foot into the Firelands. What are my chances of making it into a PUG and being succesful? I really would like to get ahold of the Avengers of Hyjal Belt.
llcjay2003 Nov 7th 2011 11:13AM
Your gear is fine, just read up on the fights and pug a group from trade (or the LFR if you are on a high population server).
razion Nov 7th 2011 11:16AM
Trash and rep runs are very doable at that item level. However if you expect PuGing bosses, anything past the first two bosses would be very rare (at least in my experience). I've seen trash runs go along with assorted people with much lower ilevels than 364, I would expect there to be no major problems on your end.
