We had 100% ground mounts in Vanilla.

Yeah, but they were like 600g. In a land before dalies...

True, though epic mounts were ridiculously expensive, and only really expensive if you were a paladin or a warlock.Making epic riding affordable is another nice side effect of flying mounts.

@wiedmaierTrust me I know, it took me about 3 months to save up for my epic ground mount in Vanilla. My point is that the article states, "Imagine a World of Warcraft in which the fastest mount you could ever obtain was the 60% ground variety." and that simply isn't true.

@weidmaier:They were 1000g *cough*

If memory serves me correctly, if you were high ranking in PVP, you got a 10 or 20% discount.Of course, this didn't really help very much as gold was hard to come by. I think I started BC with around 280 gold, and i thought I was rich!

Oop, sorry - brain crossing wires. You got the 100% at level 60, and I hit 60 instead of 100. Fixed now, thank you!

the Alterac Valley mounts were the cheapest epic mounts at 600 or 700 goldracial epics cost 1000. (I'm not sure but I think they were tagged as Ram and Wolf respectively so you had to know Ramriding and Wolfriding which was only available to Orcs, Dwarves and people exalted with Orc/IF)back then reputation only reduced the vendor price by 10% at honored and nothing after, so other epic mounts were 900 gold if you were honored with your hometown (or exalted with the town you wanted a mount from) it was rare to see a Human on a Nelf saber for instance and even more rare to see him on an epic Nelf saber.Besides these there were the rare drops from Baron, the Black Scepter and the ZG mounts.Pvp mounts required money aswell as a high pvp rank (which was only available to insane people with loads of time to spare)all in all most level 60's rode the 60% mounts we could barely afford at level 40I grinded elemental earth in Badlands for 3 levels to afford a 60% mount (at 100g skill and mount combined) and Essence of air/elemental air in Silithus for a long time to buy the AV mount (I was a Dwarf Hunter back then)
