Patch 4.3 PTR: The (real) ghosts of Darkmoon Faire Island

Spoiler warning: There are spoilers for the patch 4.3 content that is currently on the public test realms. If you do not want to be spoiled, I wouldn't read the rest of this.
Intrepid explorers began to notice some oddities going on in the forests surrounding the Darkmoon Island proper, now live on the patch 4.3 public test realms. Then earlier today, we were tipped off to an awesome blog post detailing the ghosts of Darkmoon Faire Island on Mia's Azeroth, giving us a comprehensive look at the spirits floating around this new island.
According to Mia's Azeroth, you will eventually run into sparkles on the ground while exploring outside of the Faire-grounds. If you get yourself killed and run around the island as a ghost, those sparkles manifest as six different ghosts of Darkmoon members now freed from their mortal coil. So far, these are the six ghosts you'll find wandering the island:
- Brenden Paulson, who ran away from his home as a child and joined the Darkmoon Faire to escape his father and family, who tried to kill him.
- Sithera Wellspun, who went for firewood for the campsite and got lost on her way back.
- Arlon Surehoof, whose lessons about the dangerous nature of the woods of Darkmoon Island were learned too late.
- Kupp Coincare, a Goblin who might have skipped out on those last few coins from his debt ...
- Zazla, a Troll who survived a shipwreck on a slaver vessel, watched his captors die, and joined up with the Faire.
- Franklin Jenner, a soldier who ran away to the Faire after the horrors of the war against the Orcs was too much to handle.
... which brings us to the spooky cages hanging from a big tree off to the west side of the island. Five cages hang in the tree with one fallen off to the side, each containing a skeleton long dead in captivity. Do each one of these cages hold the remains of one of the first six victims of the Darkmoon Island? Who was here on the island before the Darkmoon Faire? What secrets still lurk underneath the island, and what mysteries still await players when the Darkmoon Island goes live in patch 4.3?
These ghosts and the mystery that surrounds them is why the Darkmoon Island addition to WoW is so brilliant. Each piece of this island has been lovingly crafted, from the Faire's zoo, vendors, games, to the surrounding, spooky forest. The designers really had a good time making this place and infusing it with enough wonder and mystery that it just oozes ambiance -- world building at its finest.

There's also a cannibal forsaken lady nearby.
It's safe to assume that they got lost, she killed them, and is now selling their bits to travelers.

I hoped someone would mention her! I knew there had to be someone cannibal like when looking at the names of some of the food items on wowhead and their subsequent 'flavor' text like 'Hee. Hee! HEEHEHEHE!'
Is she a reference to Mrs Lovett from Sweeny Todd, or just a play on the Forsaken's racial?

"Spoiler warning: There are spoilers for patch 4.3 content that is currently on the public test realms. If you do not want to be spoiled, I wouldn't read the rest of this."
This is exactly what you need to write to remind me that i have no self-control whatsoever.

Do we know WHERE on the map the DMF Island is? I've always assumed that the change from a travelling faire to having their own island was a lead-in to Mists of Panderia.

I don't know if they've said, but the art for the terrain seems to match Tol'Barad, so I'd guess its somewhere in that region of the world. It also fits in well with the mysterious haunted island theme, too.

On the PTR map, as was posted as a header picture on this site sometime previously I believe, the island is directly north of Tol Barad. It's safe to assume that it's far enough out from any island or continent (and probably instanced in some way) so that you can't fly to it.

Sounds great! Where is Darkmoon Island located and how do we get there?
Shinae Nov 8th 2011 1:41PM
We get there by being ported by Faire NPCs in the capital cities and at the old Faire locations.
I am also curious about where the island is supposed to be, from a lore standpoint. :)
MikeLive Nov 8th 2011 1:14PM
I'm super-curious as to *where* in the world Darkmoon Island is. Is this revealed at all on the PTR?
Imnick Nov 8th 2011 1:24PM
The twist is that it is literally on the moon
MikeLive Nov 8th 2011 1:26PM
Which one?
Unrelated, heading to one or both of Azeroth's moons would make for an EXCELLENT patch or expansion.
Imnick Nov 8th 2011 1:27PM
The reason one of the moons vanished is that it was kidnapped by Silas Darkmoon so he could turn it into an amusement park
Curse that wily gnome
Cyno01 Nov 8th 2011 1:40PM
@MikeLive, the darker one, duh.
hicks Nov 8th 2011 2:48PM
If you right-click on the zone map on the PTR, nothing happens. No zoom-out.
MikeLive Nov 8th 2011 2:49PM
@hicks Huh. Maybe it is on the moon after all.
EvilGrin Nov 8th 2011 2:59PM
@MikeLive
As long as it doesn't explode as in certain other MMOs! :D
Schadenfreude Nov 8th 2011 3:56PM
It's back in time and on Mars.
Teth Nov 8th 2011 5:03PM
Haha that was my pet theory for Mists of Pandaria, that Pandaria was in fact on the moon. The mists concealed its true surface and Deathwing's demise caused a tidal shift that caused them to part. I thought that would have been cool, but maybe a little too out there for blizzard to go forward with.
Lokanaya Nov 8th 2011 5:04PM
Just as long as it doesn't involve a crazy mask and getting a mystical artifact of the Bronze Dragonflight, being on the moon would be pretty cool. :P
Batleth Nov 8th 2011 1:16PM
I apologize if this has already been cleared up, but do we know WHERE the new Darkmoon Faire Isle is on the world map?
