Patch 4.3 PTR: The (real) ghosts of Darkmoon Faire Island

Spoiler warning: There are spoilers for the patch 4.3 content that is currently on the public test realms. If you do not want to be spoiled, I wouldn't read the rest of this.
Intrepid explorers began to notice some oddities going on in the forests surrounding the Darkmoon Island proper, now live on the patch 4.3 public test realms. Then earlier today, we were tipped off to an awesome blog post detailing the ghosts of Darkmoon Faire Island on Mia's Azeroth, giving us a comprehensive look at the spirits floating around this new island.
According to Mia's Azeroth, you will eventually run into sparkles on the ground while exploring outside of the Faire-grounds. If you get yourself killed and run around the island as a ghost, those sparkles manifest as six different ghosts of Darkmoon members now freed from their mortal coil. So far, these are the six ghosts you'll find wandering the island:
- Brenden Paulson, who ran away from his home as a child and joined the Darkmoon Faire to escape his father and family, who tried to kill him.
- Sithera Wellspun, who went for firewood for the campsite and got lost on her way back.
- Arlon Surehoof, whose lessons about the dangerous nature of the woods of Darkmoon Island were learned too late.
- Kupp Coincare, a Goblin who might have skipped out on those last few coins from his debt ...
- Zazla, a Troll who survived a shipwreck on a slaver vessel, watched his captors die, and joined up with the Faire.
- Franklin Jenner, a soldier who ran away to the Faire after the horrors of the war against the Orcs was too much to handle.
... which brings us to the spooky cages hanging from a big tree off to the west side of the island. Five cages hang in the tree with one fallen off to the side, each containing a skeleton long dead in captivity. Do each one of these cages hold the remains of one of the first six victims of the Darkmoon Island? Who was here on the island before the Darkmoon Faire? What secrets still lurk underneath the island, and what mysteries still await players when the Darkmoon Island goes live in patch 4.3?
These ghosts and the mystery that surrounds them is why the Darkmoon Island addition to WoW is so brilliant. Each piece of this island has been lovingly crafted, from the Faire's zoo, vendors, games, to the surrounding, spooky forest. The designers really had a good time making this place and infusing it with enough wonder and mystery that it just oozes ambiance -- world building at its finest.

SPOILER ALERT....ok maybe not as these have been mentioned before but to Welldead there are new mounts and new pets to be had as well as alot of new achievements. The PVP arean looks cool but I lag to much to attempt it.

A thought just crossed my mind...anyone know if the current faire tickets will be usable when the new faire hits live? They appear the same as in the same icon is used.
Amanda A. Nov 8th 2011 1:50PM
No. The current tickets become vendor trash.
(cutaia) Nov 8th 2011 1:44PM
Nope. Old tickets become vendor trash when 4.3 launches.
Shinae Nov 8th 2011 1:45PM
The old/current tickets will become unusable vendor trash come 4.3.

There's also a hidden underwater cave. Rumor has it you can summon a boss there, but no proof yet. :(
ravyynn Nov 8th 2011 1:59PM
I looked for the cave and couldn't find it any idea where it is?
Amanda A. Nov 8th 2011 2:07PM
It's near the aboveground cave on the southeast coast. Look for a sunken ship, then swim out past the ship and down the underwater cliff, then turn back toward the ship. The cave is directly under th at ship, you just need to swim past and down to find the door.

I'm shocked this hasn't been asked because I'm so curious about it. Where on the world map is darkmoon island located? Also can I save my valor points to buy tier 13 gear when 4.3 drops?
Seriously though I can't wait for my purple ostritch mount!
Carune Nov 8th 2011 2:46PM
It is unknown where the darkmoon island actually is. As well, all valor will be converted to justice when 4.3 lands.
MikeLive Nov 8th 2011 2:17PM
A good many of us are wondering about the lore location.
As for using Valor Points for gear drops, I point you to what happened with Valor Points in 4.2, and point out that Tier 13 will not be available for purchase at all, just from drops.

I thought it was so over the top that it was obvious I was joking. Thanks for the answers though! Can you also let me know what happened to Neptulon and where I can find Mankrik's wife?

Kinda sad but cool.

The names of the ghosts sounded vaguely familiar, so I did a search on Wowpedia. Only one of them came back with anything - there's a Lieutenant Paulson in Stonetalon - http://www.wowpedia.org/Lieutenant_Paulson

Allow me a fanboy moment for a bit:
This is why I love Blizzard as a company. They could have easily just planted some mini-games in the zone and called it done, but they went out of their way to really bring life (or, in this case, death) to the island by adding in all these ghosts and creepy places. I'm sure the developers know that 90% o the people who go there will never notice or care about this stuff, but it's clear that Blizzard cares. As often as they're accused of being lazy and rehashing this or recycling that, it's clear that someone went way out of their way to make the dark corners of Darkmoon Island truly special.
GG Blizz. And I mean that.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. There are so many things like this (memorials for people, hidden corners of the world, minor characters with just things to say, LK's appearance in the Howling Fjord trance, etc) that so few people know about, but truly add to the world. It makes it not even just a game, but a work of art...one that I'm proud to play in.

A haunting on the Faire Island? Jinkies!
ravyncat Nov 8th 2011 4:57PM
My mage is named Daphnye (because she was originally a redhead who was always in distress.)
I shall have to take her there so she can be summarily kidnapped! Or at the very least find a trap or some danger! Dude...it is like Spooky Island. :O
Droma Nov 8th 2011 2:33PM
Oh dear, oh dear... LOST in WoW. Beware of the black cloud.
Grayswindir Nov 8th 2011 4:16PM
Dude, if there was a Black Cloud Monster that had accomplished the same thing that the Fel Reavers did when you were first coming into Hellfire Peninsula, then that would be FREAKIN AWESOME!
