The Queue: All Darkmoon Faire, all the time

Today's edition of The Queue is inspired by the lot of you who have been spamming the comments of every one of our Darkmoon Faire articles, trying to find out where the heck the thing is in the world. Enjoy.
Many readers asked:
Where is the Darkmoon Island located?
We don't know! You get to the island via a portal, and you exit the same way. The island has a map you can view, but you can't zoom out at all when you're viewing it, and it doesn't appear on the continent maps.
It's a mystery.
missemilyblack asked:
Does the fancy new DMF have any level restrictions? Are the quests/vendor items for level cap only? The idea of snagging cool pets and mounts and heirlooms on lower level characters and new servers is just too good to be true, I figured I should double check before getting too excited :3
Most of the games are available to players of all levels, and thus the largest source of game tickets are available to players of all levels. I don't think you can do the monthly profession quests as a lowbie, and the transmogrification gear requires level 60 to use/equip, but otherwise you're totally free to hit the Faire, play games, earn pets, and all of that sort of thing.
Tokens are a bit pricey for a low-level player, though (see below), so you may need an alt or a friend to bankroll your gaming for awhile. Hmm. That's very much like taking a kid to the carnival, isn't it?
@jojojetson asked:
Will the tickets that I've been holding onto be eligible to purchase new items?
Nope. The patch 4.3 currency is brand new currency. The stuff you've been sitting on will just be trash.
@jaxland101 asked:
best/worst game there at dmf?
I enjoy Whack-a-Gnoll. It's frantic and fast-paced and emulates the real Whack-a-Mole games well in that way. I hate the human cannon game, because I can't aim my drops worth a damn. I'm sure you'll all be expressing the same sentiment in a few weeks when this thing launches.
@illskatrillz510 asked:
Im confused. What do you buy with gold? The currency to redeem prizes? Or the currency to play games?
The currency to play the games. Each game requires one token to play, but since they're cheating carnies, it may take you multiple attempts to win at a particular game. You can buy a pouch of five tokens for 60 silver or a pouch of 20 tokens for 1 gold, 92 silver. Chump change for level-capped players. Pretty darn expensive for low-level characters.
@Anslym asked:
Are the replica sets BoP?
You know, I assumed right off the bat that they would be, but I checked the vendors and that doesn't seem to be the case. It's all labeled bind on equip. It's possible Blizzard expects players to build a gold market for these items, which is pretty cool. It's also possible that it's unintended and the status of those items wll change before the patch goes live. It's the PTR, after all.

@josin please. tanking column. I tried to learn but got scared in cata heroics and quit. Straight back to the Mage.

@ RuzGofDI ~
I asked about that column a while ago -- apparently the idea was scrapped when the columnist who was going to write it left WoW Insider.
I do, however, think it would make an interesting addition to the lineup. So would a column about the general WoW community.
eel5pe Nov 9th 2011 12:03PM
Two columns I would like to see, but that could possibly be incorporated into existing ones:
1. A column devoted to the challenges in starting a new RBG or raid group, because as someone who has done both there was a lot of trial and error involved (what? you need a tank for battlegrounds? the hell?)
2. A PvP column that was at a level of complexity between WoW-rookie and Blood Sport. BG players are definitely a lot more savvy than they used to be, but every time a flag gets ninja-capped with 8 players standing around it, I die a lot on the inside.

Seriously, people. Downranking everything Luke says because...why? Afraid of ghey cooties? Grow up.
Kittens Nov 9th 2011 12:10PM
With Choose My Adventure gone, I'm afraid of missing the appearances of Foxlight (/cry!!)
Therefore, I would like to suggest an 'Ask Foxlight' kinda style column. It would be a sort of combo between Drama Mamas, The Queue and Ask a Faction Leader (I mean.. he IS a kinda faction leader right.. the Faction of Style and Glitter and Bare Chestedness! (and Glitterstorm the bloodelf warrior should be his sidekick)). He could be a sort of agony aunt, dealing with ingame (in-character) questions from the readers' toons.
I know he is probably far too busy drinking cocktails and looking insanely good in Silvermoon to even consider writing such a column, but I can always hope... and one can never have enough Foxlight, right?? :)
Luke Nov 9th 2011 12:14PM
Matt I like the tanking column idea, would this be extended to DPS and Healing? Or do you feel those roles are properly represented by the class columns in a way that tanking isn't?
RothKeahi Nov 9th 2011 12:16PM
I wanna see the fashion column that was jokingly tossed about awhile back here. http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/wow-fashionista-creating-that-super-summer-look/
With Transmogrifying (Always wanna spell is "morg" and not "mogr") comming, now it could be a relevant showcase of awesome armor sets put together by players.
Luke Nov 9th 2011 12:17PM
Matt, I like the Tanking column idea, would you extend this to DPS and Healing as well? Or do you feel the class columns represent those topics in a way tanking isn't?

@MattKrozer
Something like that would be nice. Maybe it's the few videos I've watch, but they tend to be useless. Pulled all the way back, covered in addons with some song running the entire way. For me, those aren't informational.
Something more along the lines of Blue Please's Cataclysm beta videos where it's commentary through the entire thing with pausing, zoom ins, arrows and circles. "Watch out, he drops a shadow trap" means nothing to me unless I know what a shadow trap is or looks at.
Maybe it's something I'll work on myself. Stop complaining about the problem and be the solution.

"Seriously, people. Downranking everything Luke says because...why? Afraid of ghey cooties? Grow up."
Look, buddy. Some people are posters. They enjoy conversing and expressing opinions on these forums. Some of those people have already posted some very rational and cogent thoughts on why they think Luke's idea is not a good fit for WoW Insider.
Some people, on the other hand, read the site and -- while they would still like to participate in the site in some way -- don't necessarily feel like they're good at expressing their thoughts. OR they simply don't see the need to clutter up the thread with 50 of the exact same post. These people are given the option to merely uprate or downrate posts, so they can still take part in the discussion in some way.
The assumption you're making, however, is that anyone exercising this option CLEARLY is just "afraid of ghey cooties" and should therefore be mocked? Quite frankly, I think you're the one who needs to grow up.
MattKrotzer Nov 9th 2011 12:22PM
"Matt I like the tanking column idea, would this be extended to DPS and Healing? Or do you feel those roles are properly represented by the class columns in a way that tanking isn't?"
Those roles are infinitely more represented here by the individual class columnists.
Granted, "The Light & How To Swing It" covers tanking pretty nicely when it's the Prot spec's turn, but the other classes don't seem to have something comparable, and the paladin articles are very paladin-specific.
Tanking is a great role, both revered and at the same time underappreciated by a great many. It'd be awesome to pull back the curtain and explore tanking issues here.

"Quite frankly, I think you're the one who needs to grow up."
Meh...lemme take this part back. I'm not trying to be a jerk. But seriously...don't paint people with such a broad homophobic brush when they're really are reasonable reasons for them to disagree with the idea.
andres.dc39 Nov 9th 2011 12:28PM
I do not intend to start a flamewar/s**t storm but you don't really need a LGBT here. The whole idea of making specific things for you I think contributes more to people still having prejudices. Saying "hey i'm different, I need something different" is going to cause a reaction no matter what a opposed to saying "im different but i'm equal". Is good that you're proud of what you are but some things have their own place. A WoW centric blog is not a place for this kind of issues. Perhaps there are blogs about it in the community.
Drack Nov 9th 2011 12:35PM
@Nagaina
"Seriously, people. Downranking everything Luke says because...why?"
------------------------------------------------------------
"I can't for any reason understand why someone would want LGBT issues discussed or represented in a video game or a video game blog."
"you can bring your personal issues on this matter to Drama Mamas IMHO"
"How exactly would you imagine a Wow based LGBT column to be structured? What type of topics would it contain? I don't really see how it relates to WoW other than 'there are LGBT players that play.'"
"I'm not dissing the idea, I simply see no need for it."
That help you out any?
P.S. I ( like many others who have downvoted him) am a member of the LGBT community. Don't make broad generalizations without a foundation to back them up.

@ (cutaia) ~
So, what'd Luke say in any of his replies that deserves downranking?
The WoW community in general and this community in specific has issues so massive with LBQT representation in game that every time the topic comes up, the result is a flamewar. Proudmoore Pride cannot receive a simple, non-controversial announcement on The Classifieds. People cannot express their disappointment with Blizzard giving homophobic douchebaggery their tacit endorsement at BlizzCon without the trolls coming out the woodwork to whine about how Mike Morhaime shouldn't have apologized for his company's colossally bad judgment.
Bluntly, I call 'em as I see 'em. And I see assberets downranking somebody who made a suggestion for a column idea, and then expressed his thoughts clearly, intelligently, and calmly on the ensuing topic thread.
(cutaia) Nov 9th 2011 12:45PM
"So, what'd Luke say in any of his replies that deserves downranking?"
By your phrasing of "deserves downranking" I can see that you automatically consider downranking an insult. It's not. Like I said, it's just a method of participation. That's the fundamental issue with your complaint.
Noselacri Nov 9th 2011 12:49PM
I have no problem admitting that I down-ranked him, and posted my opposing view. Join Proudmoore, find a guild (I suggest Taint or The Stonewall Family depending on your faction choice), and post on their forums. Those are places specifically dedicated to LGBT issues. As is gaygamer.net.
I'm not afraid of "ghey cooties". I already have them. I'm not afraid of change. I'm not trying to censor him.
Several others have made good points as to why that column wouldn't fit, and Luke's response was "writers answer questions" (queue, drama mamas, every columns mailbag), "minority groups fitting in with a community" (drama mamas, a therapist, and gay/straight alliance groups), and "transmog eye for the draenei" (which we've recently had a column based on transmogging and where to pick things up).
1/10 of 1 servers population doesn't classify as a "large percentage". A percentage, yes, but by no means a large one.
In closing:
I'd like to second the Foxlight column, Archmage Pants' taking over Blood Pact, and The Room Makeoverachiever.
Blagaah Nov 9th 2011 1:06PM
@Luke while I fully support the concept, other then possible in game character relationships and the general talk of being socially responsible, what issues does the LGBT community run into that is specific to Warcraft that isn't also present in other community outlets? I'm fairly active in the BDSM community (not a wonderful comparison I know) and I also work to help local area chefs and restraunt owner network. I'd find it odd at best if WoWInsider started a collum catering to either social niche. We already have Warcraft groups in both of the communities I run in. Help me understand where the need is.
Grovinofdarkhour Nov 9th 2011 2:13PM
We have those discussions here from time to time. I've participated in plenty of them.
I just don't see how formalizing that we must rehash our positions each week would serve a purpose. It's not as though there are exciting new issues cropping up each week.
If it comes up, we discuss it. But a special column would probably grow stale pretty quick.
