It requires a strategy rather than time. I know people with plenty of gold, but they don't spend all day glued to the AH. Playing the market is something they enjoy, so they find interest in keeping track of what's selling, what are the cheapest ways to score mats etc.
It's another aspect of game that you can participate in, if you want to. Doesn't have to be a grind.
