The Queue: Genesis
I gave you guys Civilization last week or the week before; now see how it all began with Genesis.
Ghost asked:
The real question about monks is why are they wearing leather and not cloth? (And before you say anything about not adding an armor type for a single spec, consider holy paladin...)
Archetypal fantasy monks, like the kind you see in D&D or EverQuest or any other fantasy RPG, can wear leather armor. You have to keep in mind that these are warrior monks. We're not talking St. Francis here.
And spell plate is the reason why monks won't have a special kind of armor all to themselves. It's a massive headache.
Elwoods asked:
There was once a mention of increasing hit caps for later raid bosses, has the ever been mentioned again?
It was quietly shelved, never to be spoken of again. Probably.
Starlin asked:
With the pvp season ending as early as the 15th, any chance we could get 4.3 that day too? There's a release build on the PTR. The stars are aligned. Any precedent for a gap between season end and a new patch?
Not happening, unfortunately.
Glaras asked:
Question: After MoP hits, will players leveling through, say, Uldum have the change to get "Stood in the Fire"? I mean will Deathwing still occasionally torch the place and barbecue a few players?
I would definitely assume not. He'll still be around in 4.3, though.
John asked:
Can we get some clarification about how many times per week we can kill a boss in the DS raid?
As many times as you want, but you only get loot from the boss the first time you kill it. Keep in mind that your kills in Raid Finder do not affect your normal and heroic lockouts or loot eligibility in any way.

I still think the stupidest thing about Real ID is by sharing yours, you're giving someone your email address/Battle.net account that you use to login to WoW in the first place. The moment they announced it, I created a new email address purely for WoW and detached it from my firstname.lastname@(provider).com account.
And of course, all smart people use authenticators so it's less of a risk, but really, a securely-non-public email address is Step 1 in account security, and Blizzard themselves blew a gaping hole in it.

In game I'd have to say the Wrath "Additional Instances Cannot Be Launched" was pretty bad.
A lot of people say that too little time was given for Ulduar before TOC came out, but I still think it was because of that particular glitch.
Killik Nov 11th 2011 1:40PM
Ret Paladins in the very early days of Wrath caused a few forum tears. And then the corrective nerf.
The original infected blood plague from ZG.
The very first time upgraded Badge of Justice items became available.
Warriors "pop Enrage".

I'll be returning after a long break soon but I'm not sure I understand the answer to that last question. Is there an upcoming change to the way you get saved to instances? Can I kill half the bosses in an instance, then join a cherry group the next day and not screw them all over by saving them to my instance? All that would happen is that I just can't loot whichever bosses I killed the day before with a different group?
The Dewd Nov 11th 2011 11:29AM
If you're talking about raids (I assume you are since 5-man instances reset every morning) it'll warn anyone who tries to zone in that there are 2/5 (or whatever the numbers are) bosses already killed and that they need to leave the instance or risk being locked into that.
However, if you're in a preformed group of friends/guildmates/etc you can also take advantage of that to extend the lock if no one wants anything from those downed bosses.

This new system that they're talking about is the Looking For Raid (LFR) or Raid Finder feature. It will debut in 4.3 and will ONLY be applied to the new raid, Dragon Soul. All other instances will still function as usual.

I have found that understanding the whole Looking For Raid thing becomes easier once you start thinking of it as "Practice Mode."
You'll be able to use LFR the same way you can currently use Looking for Dungeon. It will apply to the Dragon Soul raid first, and all the raids in Mists of Pandaria. (No word yet on retroactive application to Firelands, or tier 11 raids.)
It will be a separate tier, lower than Regular and Heroic versions, have lesser loot, and it will have no "raid ID" - you can go in and kill the same bosses over and over (like using "Rest All Instances" on non-heroic dungeons) if you like. (This is why I call it "Practice Mode.") However, you are only eligible for loot on your first kill of each boss in that week, regardless of whether you're eligible for any of the drops. If you're a mage and Boss X only drops plate the first time you kill him, too bad, no loot for you off him that week.
And as Sacco said, "your kills in Raid Finder do not affect your normal and heroic lockouts or loot eligibility in any way."
steak Nov 11th 2011 11:40AM
basically the LFR group will be a separate dungeon with lower ilvl gear. even though it will be a copy of the raid so separate loot, separate lockouts, separate everything its the same dungeon just a different version from what i can tell.kind of like the way heroics and LFG work now.
Skarn Nov 11th 2011 3:33PM
"If you're a mage and Boss X only drops plate the first time you kill him, too bad, no loot for you off him that week."
Correct and it's worth noting that this is no different from any other raid. If you grab a PuG and go kill Shannox now and nothing you want drops, you don't get another shot this week. Since the Raid Finder and Normal/Heroic are separated, you actually get TWO shots at loot with Dragon Soul!

It's my opinion that the RDF has had a more negative impact on the game than a positive role. Before the RDF there seemed to be more server cohesion.
I have one idea that may help change that: Imagine getting an even better buff for dungeons when summoning with or summoned by the summoning stones at that location. Seems simple enough and will encourage at least two players to actually see all the work Blizzard put into the new graphics.
Has Blizzard mentioned anything that would help recreate that server-community or even acknowledged what's happened with the in-game community?
MattKrotzer Nov 11th 2011 11:20AM
I've not seen anything, aside from the change to give same-server preference to groupings. Really, that's about the best they can do, short of scrapping the Random Dungeon Finder.
And while I don't like it 90% of the time, I can't say that the RDF has been a bad thing for the game or the players as a whole. For a majority, I would say it has allowed them to do far more dungeon-running than they could or would have without it.
Angus Nov 11th 2011 11:28AM
You know what, I am sick of this whining.
THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING YOU FROM USING TRADE!!!
Let's get that absolutely clear folks. If you want server cohesion, get a tank, have him say "Tank doing a random heroic/troll heroic/whatever. Anyone want my instant queue time?"
Watch how fast a group shows up.
You can do this as a DPS and I will tell you right now, it works. You will get the group faster than you can imagine. Only servers which are already dead and NEED LFG tool won't be able to see success. I have seen people advertise in trade that they need a tank for a heroic and I jump at the chance. I will NEVER queue as a tank by myself again, so I get to grab some valor and make connections.
The only thing stopping the community from behaving like a community is themselves.
No one holds a gun to your head and says "USE LFD OR I SHOOT!" It is a tool and a useful one, but sometimes it is a hammer when you would prefer a screwdriver. Use Trade, use /who and look up folks that you know do stuff, talk to your guild tanks, make events out of it and tell the server via the forums or just announcing in a chat channel.
You want community WORK AT IT. The people using LFD that don't join didn't want to be in the community, let them do their thing.
MattKrotzer Nov 11th 2011 11:33AM
Um... u mad bro?
Nipah Nov 11th 2011 11:39AM
@Angus
Other people are stopping you from using Trade.
Either the "lawl, use LFD newb" type, or the "TRADE IS FOR TRADE CHAT!" type, or the "[your sword] anal!" type, or... well, everyone else in trade who doesn't want to do server-specific grouping.
If they had a little check box that said something like "Same server group only" or what not, it would alleviate the bitching. At least until the 2 hour queue times hit them, and then... woo boy.
Killik Nov 11th 2011 11:40AM
You must be the change you want to see in the world... of Warcraft.
Cricket Nov 11th 2011 12:30PM
@Nipah
"Either the "lawl, use LFD newb" type, or the "TRADE IS FOR TRADE CHAT!" type, or the "[your sword] anal!" type, or... well, everyone else in trade who doesn't want to do server-specific grouping."
So that's the kind of server community we've lost? And you want to have to interact *more* with these people?
Tirrimas Nov 11th 2011 12:46PM
*shrug* I've seen MORE LFG requests in Trade lately than anything else. Usually it's BH, but there are a lot of retro raids going on, too.
Granted, I'm on a low-pop server, but still.
I'm the person who'll see a question asked in Trade and will whisper the querent with an answer if all they get is flak.
ejunk Nov 11th 2011 11:18AM
another LFR clarification:
do you get valor points (assuming that's what they drop...) every time you kill a boss in a week?
Angus Nov 11th 2011 11:31AM
The Dragon Soul vs Deathwing Raid is split in 2.
Each half is a separate raid.
You get valor for FINISHING that raid.
So 4 bosses, then valor.
Killik Nov 11th 2011 11:47AM
Thank goodness, or we'd see raids forming only to kill faceroll boss #1 for VP, then disbanding to queue again.
