"Blizzard has mentioned this before, but the response was one I think is pretty fair -- "we've built paladins in lore to be a plate-wearing class, and wearing mail just doesn't feel right for them aesthetically."Well that's cute. Blizzard using reverse psychology- usually they are citing game mechanics to trump lore. While this seems to be a good case to implement something to make things better. Perhaps it's just easier to roll with it how it is, rather than to change things up, and they just don't want to say it. It feels like a hollow answer, especially given that paladins wear chain for the first 40 levels ;)

Never take my plate. I repeat Never. Take. My. Plate.

If we go to aesthetics, it's actually blizz's fault. They have removed completely the concept of chainmail and the concept of scalemail made with metallic scales, both of which would be right in the paladin looks (and in the BS craft). Instead, they have transformed mail armor into something you create by placing dragon scales on leather armor...So, if the looks are the problem, the solution is very easy: metallic mail armor looks very paladinish.

Blizzard has been horrible about changing holy Paladin spells/rotations far too frequently for my taste, even between expansion. IIRC, my paladins got at least two hot fix nerfs in LK. So it's seems disingenuous to now all of a sudden care about Paladin consistency.A solution is to have only mail int/spirit gear drop (up the % as resto shaman are already screwed) and have an NPC convert it into a plate item.

Aesthetics and gear design plays into this as well, though. Mail armor is for shamans and hunters, both "nature" themed classes. Thus, that gear will often have natural, animal themed elements to it. Holy pallies would look utterly silly wearing such a get-up, though. It's completely out of tune with the flavor of the class. "So what?" you might ask. "If it works, it works." Well, aesthetics are important to players; I know this because I've read so many comments on this site complaining about clown outfits while leveling that I'm not sure how you could deny it.Second, did you ever play a Holy Pally before they instituted incentives for wearing your armor class? Picking and choosing from all the spell cloth, leather, mail, and plate that was available made you look utterly ridiculous. Seriously, my paladin looked like a hobo in Wrath.

I concur with Sally; my pally has gone from my main to one of my least-used alts because he's almost unrecognizable from what he used to be. I just whip him out for holiday bosses and press whatever buttons seem to inflict damage, not really knowing whatever the heck I'm doing.

I said it once and i'll say it again...Battlemages!!
