The Queue: Fus Ro Dah

Oh jeez. Oh gosh. It's 6:30 a.m. and I haven't written The Queue yet. This is your fault, Skyrim. This is all your fault. I hate you so much. Get out of my life, Skyrim. I never want to see you again.
Wait, baby, no! I didn't mean it! Come back, please! I need you. I need you so bad.
AGuyOnTheInternet asked:
Any idea what Blizzard's plan is to get people missing expansions to be set and ready for MoP? Like a battle chest or something?
Blizzard has already bundled The Burning Crusade with the base game; The Burning Crusade effectively doesn't exist anymore. All of that content is in the bottom-level box, not branded with the Burning Crusade title at all. A couple of the Blizzard developers have mentioned in passing that they want to roll Wrath of the Lich King into the basic box as well. That will almost certainly happen at some point in the future, but when? We don't know. It could be a few months from now. It could be a couple years from now.
Personally, I'd like to see Blizzard go the route a couple of other games in the industry have gone with expansions: If you buy an expansion, you're given everything else that's been released before it. So if you were a new player who wanted to start World of Warcraft, you would just buy the Cataclysm box. With it, you'd get Wrath of the Lich King, The Burning Crusade, and vanilla WoW. When Mists of Pandaria comes out, a new player would buy the MoP box and get Cataclysm, Wrath, Burning Crusade, and vanilla all in one package.
Wrox asked:
Has there been any word of a Pilgrim's Bounty boss? I'd love to fight an epic turkey of doom. This holiday could be so much more than the week when everybody levels cooking on their alts.
No word on that, no.
I think I like Pilgrim's Bounty being low-key. This season is stacked with so many darn stress-inducing holidays in-game and out that I appreciate having a little break to just run around the world, have a little fun, skill up cooking and not give a damn about the latest mount drop or whatever.
@eicenhour asked:
Do you think Blizzard will bring back the Battle for Undercity in the future?
Definitely not. Cataclysm killed that quest dead.
@ladiciuswarrior asked:
with the removal of relics and the such do you think we will get vanity items like the book hanging from my pally figure?
I haven't heard anything about this, but it would be very awesome if Blizzard did it. Trophies is one of the things Warhammer Online did extremely well. You earned trophies by completing in-game tasks and achievements. Every character model had a set of attachment points on the hips, shoulders, and so on. You chose which trophies you wanted to display on which parts of your body. I absolutely loved it, and I'd love if Blizzard brought that to WoW.
@malytwotails asked:
Should I bake gingerbread cookies or mint chocolate chip cookies tomorrow? I promise to actually send some to Alex.
While I love gingerbread and it is the season for such things, I'm not sure any cookie could top mint chocolate chip. Go with that.
I wonder if USPS lets you send cookies to a P.O. box?
@Sabiba asked:
any suggestions to beat the prepatch boredom? Other than rolling an alt. Can't seem to get excited for anything other than raiding.
Build your transmogrification set! That's what I did. Also, don't force yourself to play if you're bored. It's alright to step away from the game and do something else to let your batteries recharge. You'll be more excited to play when patch 4.3 rolls around that way. World of Warcraft won't get mad at you for being a two-timing cheater if you play another game for a couple of weeks. Taking a break is OK.
Playing other games doesn't need to be a huge expense, either. A lot of players get nervous about playing other games because they don't want to drop $50 to $60 at a time on a brand new game they may or may not like, because that's a steep price tag when you're used to only paying $15 per month. You don't need to drop $60 on a new game. You really don't. Grab Steam and look at recent top indie games. You can get some really solid titles for around $15, sometimes as low as $5. I highly recommend Bastion for $15. It's one of the best gaming experiences I've had all year.

Skyrim owns my soul. My orc just got married! How did he celebrate his nuptials? By clearing a coven of vampires and slaying a dragon who was in the middle of fighting a mammoth.
Yay Skyrim!

Skyrim's just badass. I especially love how they did the dragon fights. You're all alone in the wilderness, with just the sound of wildlife, then all of a sudden, a huge dragon roar and there's a dragon trying to eat you. The music picks up to the epic theme song, and you shock its ass out of the sky.
Best moment: A random dragon decided to assault me while I was in the College of Winterhold. It actually landed on top of the battlements while I was down in the courtyard, so I had to dart through the plentiful pillars to get out of line of sight of its breath. I killed the hell out of it without letting my fellow colleagues get injured, and it left its skeleton in the courtyard. I'd love to hear them tell THAT story to future students. "And over there is the skeleton of a dragon that our Archmage put down in order to save the college."

Once I had a Dragon attack a Mammoth. The giant wasn't happy and proceeded to maul the dragon lifeless while I watched. Free soul ftw!

Am I the only one on the planet who doesn't like the elder scrolls series simply because of it's combat and view point? I tried, I really tried, but that first person view just makes me feel like I'm playing some sort of really weird wolfenstein game, and the response of the controller just never felt right.
Had the same issue with Kotor too. It just felt... blech. I dunno. FPS games are good when there is a gun sticking out in front of you, because it's like you are looking through the reticle of a firearm, and you are always aiming at distance. First person views just make me feel very disjointed in an RPG, or an action RPG. And I haven't even tried Skyrim (I won't because of the reasons stated), but the other issue is the delay in response to button presses. I'm too used to wow, where i press a key and my guy does something, unless that something is on cooldown or gcd. I like that responsiveness, and kotor/elder scrolls/dragon age has some kind of weird delay that really makes me lose the feel of the game.

I don't understand why there is that dragon skeleton outside the gates of Whiterun though, it seems to lie around there completely random.
Rai Nov 14th 2011 12:18PM
I killed a dragon as it flew above the college and it landed on the roof of one of the towers - I can't even get close to the corpse for soul-tampering purposes.
This is a story I'm not telling the mages.

Playing Skyrim has made me love Blizzard more, actually. I shall never complain about Soon™ ever again. Seriously, Skyrim on the PC is buggy as hell.
Fawatam Nov 14th 2011 12:22PM
I've lost so much time to Skyrim it's not even funny. I'll look up, and realize hours have passed by as if they were mere minutes.
I once had a Dragon attack me, and his breath light up a Mammoth. The Giant nearby wasn't too thrilled, and started attacking the Dragon. I found a nice scenic viewpoint and watched as the Dragon started making bombing runs on the Giant, never landing, just strafing him with fire. As all this continued to develop, the skies darkened and it began to snow. I of course jumped in and finished both off at the end, but I really wish I had been able to record video of it all. Such a beautiful and epic scene.
Oh, and once I had a Dragon land in the middle of Solitude. The entire town came out to help me slay the beast. That arrogant guy who works the Archery shop still didn't believe I killed a dragon! What a jerk!
Deathknighty Nov 14th 2011 12:27PM
When I got my copy of Skyrim around 4 pm, I sat down and literally played it non-stop until I passed out 20 hours later.
Kunikenwad! Nov 14th 2011 12:41PM
@Pyro
KOTOR? FPS? I think you're getting your games mixed up. Also, about the FPS viewpoint of Skyrim, I totally get it. The weapons don't feel like they have a ton of heft to them and the first person view can get a little wonky sometimes.
However ...
I can look past it! I commend you on trying though; the Elder Scrolls really aren't for everyone. I don't even view it as an RPG, to be honest. More like a fantasy life simulator. I mean, by the balls of the Nine Divines (or Eight, if you believe the Imperial propaganda!), the last few tasks that I completed were uniting two star-crossed lovers, looking for a ghost girl, getting married, slaying a dragon and mammoth at the same time, and rearranging my bookshelf in my house.

I'm loving Skyrim so far, but I gotta agree that it's a little buggy, especially going through the dialogue trees. Sometimes I'll be mashing E and it won't progress, then I'll click with the mouse and it will jump to another option. Also I'll try to click on a different item category with the mouse and then I get thrown out of the menu entirely. Can't explain that. billoreilly.jpg
My follower blocking doorways and trapping me in tiny rooms is a usual annoyance carried over from Fallout 3, too. Oh, and the weight mechanic-- so much trying to figure out what to toss and what to take. Will someone please make a mod that toggles helm display as well? Cheers.
trefpoid Nov 14th 2011 12:57PM
I had never researched what this game is. I just went and looked at some gameplay footage of a fellow killing a dragon by throwing fireballs and ice storms at it. It looked awesome :( now my 7-year-old PC feels even older ;o; I envy u, guys!

You can change the camera in Skyrim to a 3rd person view if you want. In fact its how I play the game when I'm out exploring.
jfofla Nov 14th 2011 1:29PM
Glad you all like Skyrim!
Personally, I just have too damn much to do in WOW to add a second game.
Revynn Nov 14th 2011 1:56PM
Not just you, Pyro. I played one Elder Scrolls game (Morrowind, I think) a few years back and uninstalled it about 10 minutes later. I just couldn't do the First Person view in an RPG.
Draelan Nov 14th 2011 2:29PM
Skyrim seems to be the game everyone's talking about lately. I don't have a copy of it, myself, because I'm poor and jobless, and it's getting close to Christmas, anyway. But it's nice to hear about something INTERESTING rather than constant Call of Duty chatter. (I'm not a fan of shooters and less-so war games, if you couldn't tell. ;P ) Last time I played an Elder Scrolls game was when I was playing Oblivion at my old game testing job. I really had no idea what I was doing and accidentally stole a horse. hah. It was interesting, though. (I certainly enjoyed it more than call of duty/halo/gears/whyaretheresomanyfpsgames?! And don't get me started on the Saw game! There's something infinitely more disturbing about actually controlling the guy who's stabbing himself in the eye to get at the key there...)
Er... anyway, I'll probably add Skyrim to my Christmas list alongside Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Skyward Sword. =)

The bugs shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody who played any of the previous games or Fallout 3 or New Vegas. They're frustrating, but the whole product is worth it to many people. The bugs are the lumps in the delicious home made mashed potatoes.
Lupos Nov 14th 2011 3:19PM
I had my first two dragon fight yesterday. I was just gonna move on until one dragon landed on the inn and start spraying fire all over. I was like 'My mead...oh hell no he didn't" Several chops later and the mead was saved albeit a little warmer
