The Queue: Fus Ro Dah

Oh jeez. Oh gosh. It's 6:30 a.m. and I haven't written The Queue yet. This is your fault, Skyrim. This is all your fault. I hate you so much. Get out of my life, Skyrim. I never want to see you again.
Wait, baby, no! I didn't mean it! Come back, please! I need you. I need you so bad.
AGuyOnTheInternet asked:
Any idea what Blizzard's plan is to get people missing expansions to be set and ready for MoP? Like a battle chest or something?
Blizzard has already bundled The Burning Crusade with the base game; The Burning Crusade effectively doesn't exist anymore. All of that content is in the bottom-level box, not branded with the Burning Crusade title at all. A couple of the Blizzard developers have mentioned in passing that they want to roll Wrath of the Lich King into the basic box as well. That will almost certainly happen at some point in the future, but when? We don't know. It could be a few months from now. It could be a couple years from now.
Personally, I'd like to see Blizzard go the route a couple of other games in the industry have gone with expansions: If you buy an expansion, you're given everything else that's been released before it. So if you were a new player who wanted to start World of Warcraft, you would just buy the Cataclysm box. With it, you'd get Wrath of the Lich King, The Burning Crusade, and vanilla WoW. When Mists of Pandaria comes out, a new player would buy the MoP box and get Cataclysm, Wrath, Burning Crusade, and vanilla all in one package.
Wrox asked:
Has there been any word of a Pilgrim's Bounty boss? I'd love to fight an epic turkey of doom. This holiday could be so much more than the week when everybody levels cooking on their alts.
No word on that, no.
I think I like Pilgrim's Bounty being low-key. This season is stacked with so many darn stress-inducing holidays in-game and out that I appreciate having a little break to just run around the world, have a little fun, skill up cooking and not give a damn about the latest mount drop or whatever.
@eicenhour asked:
Do you think Blizzard will bring back the Battle for Undercity in the future?
Definitely not. Cataclysm killed that quest dead.
@ladiciuswarrior asked:
with the removal of relics and the such do you think we will get vanity items like the book hanging from my pally figure?
I haven't heard anything about this, but it would be very awesome if Blizzard did it. Trophies is one of the things Warhammer Online did extremely well. You earned trophies by completing in-game tasks and achievements. Every character model had a set of attachment points on the hips, shoulders, and so on. You chose which trophies you wanted to display on which parts of your body. I absolutely loved it, and I'd love if Blizzard brought that to WoW.
@malytwotails asked:
Should I bake gingerbread cookies or mint chocolate chip cookies tomorrow? I promise to actually send some to Alex.
While I love gingerbread and it is the season for such things, I'm not sure any cookie could top mint chocolate chip. Go with that.
I wonder if USPS lets you send cookies to a P.O. box?
@Sabiba asked:
any suggestions to beat the prepatch boredom? Other than rolling an alt. Can't seem to get excited for anything other than raiding.
Build your transmogrification set! That's what I did. Also, don't force yourself to play if you're bored. It's alright to step away from the game and do something else to let your batteries recharge. You'll be more excited to play when patch 4.3 rolls around that way. World of Warcraft won't get mad at you for being a two-timing cheater if you play another game for a couple of weeks. Taking a break is OK.
Playing other games doesn't need to be a huge expense, either. A lot of players get nervous about playing other games because they don't want to drop $50 to $60 at a time on a brand new game they may or may not like, because that's a steep price tag when you're used to only paying $15 per month. You don't need to drop $60 on a new game. You really don't. Grab Steam and look at recent top indie games. You can get some really solid titles for around $15, sometimes as low as $5. I highly recommend Bastion for $15. It's one of the best gaming experiences I've had all year.

I remember hearing this said by a dev at Blizzcon, too. The example was a character model with a libram shown as a book on a chain, like the draenei from the BC cinematic.
This would be so cool. I'm already envious of Thrall's orc-purse, I mean, messenger bag.
Blackdemon Nov 14th 2011 12:20PM
This was discussed a couple of times at Blizzcon. The art team are working on graphics for things like quivers and librams and would like to be able to show them somehow.

True story: About 20 years ago, a girl halfway across the country that I met in an online game (a MUD) sent me chocolate chip cookies. We've been married for 15 years as as of this summer. Be very careful about who you send cookies to/receive cookies from via the mail.

That's so sweet! :) Congratulations on all that time together. :)
My husband and I met in a far more mundane fashion: at a wedding.

Hey Dewd...
What MUD? Just curious.
Levi Nov 14th 2011 11:16AM

I know what a MUD IS...I was wondering which MUD he was playing. I've always called MUD Multi User Domain, but that's because I played a SciFi one named Federation, and calling it a dungeon seemed silly.
The Dewd Nov 14th 2011 11:37AM
Think WoW - except it's all text and there's only about 50 players max, and you have to type everything, including casting spells. But we did, at least, have macros. :)

When I tell someone I met my girlfriend at the Orc Tower in Butcherblock Mountains, I usually get a confused look.

It *used* to be called Discworld 2 and had a bunch of areas build off the Discworld series of books by Terry Pratchett. I think there was some sort of complaint from the original Discworld MUD and we renamed it Virtual Realities since we had so many different areas that weren't Discworld based anyways.
Mortenebra Nov 14th 2011 12:40PM
That's such an awesome story :) Here's to many more happy years!
For what it's worth, my husband and I met one day in guild chat when he asked, "Do I know you?" and I answered, "Nope. I don't know you, either."

Q4tQ:
How in th
e heck do I decipher anything from the combat log? I've used World of Logs, and DeathNote to look at the information, but sometimes I play alts that have minimal add-ons , and when I try to take a look at the combat log to see what hit/killed me, it is incredibly difficult to sort things out.
Any ideas?
eel5pe Nov 14th 2011 11:29AM
If all you're interested in is why you died, recount has a nice "Deaths" tab that shows you what happened to your character (or party members) in the 15 or so seconds prior to their untimely demise. The mod "fatality" also will announce in party/raid the immediate cause of a person's death if you're into instant feedback.
Pyromelter Nov 14th 2011 12:30PM
You absolutely need some sort of addon to figure out what killed you. I agree with the poster above, go for recount. (I also like recount for leveling as it gives you quantitative feedback on your character damage or healing progression.) Trying to simply look through the combat log to figure it out is just not worth it. If you really don't want to see your dps from recount, just hide it, or keep it on the "Deaths" tab.
MattKrotzer Nov 14th 2011 12:42PM
Skada also has a nice easy-to-read "Deaths" tab, which allows you to look at anyone in your group's death, and see what got them and what led up to their death in the preceeding moments. Skada has settled a lot of debates in my raids.
"I didn't stand in that!"
"Says here you took 3 ticks of it over 9 seconds, and the healers couldnt' keep up with that."
"Oh. Shit. I'm sorry. I'll do better next time."

If you're looking for a high quality, low priced indie game, look no further than Jamestown. I can't recommend it enough.
Daedalus Nov 14th 2011 11:19AM
As for other indie options, I picked up Rock of Ages recently; I don't think I've had more fun with a game all year.
Daedalus Nov 14th 2011 11:21AM
As another option, I recently picked up Rock of Ages, and I can't recommend it enough; it's probably the most fun I've had all year.
It's sort of playing one of Terry Gilliam's Monty Python animations.
Daedalus Nov 14th 2011 11:23AM
Um... I posted twice because, like I said, I can't recommend it enough. Yeah, that's it.
