I feel no need to echo the previous comments on the monotony of it as a whole, but I will say something positive about it.
When I'm in the mood to work on Archaeology, I find it very peaceful and relaxing. I've actually really enjoyed being 'forced' to go around exploring the world again, since at max level I don't have much reason to travel and see the zones anymore, and Archaeology brought back a sense of exploration for me again. I'll visit a zone for a digsite and mentally remark on how much I love the zone, or what a cool area the place was, etc.
It's certainly still tedious and boring, but I don't tend to do it unless I'm in the right mindset, and if I am I can casually work on it and enjoy the sightseeing.
