The Daily Quest: Let's talk about murdering each other
WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
I am really, really terrible at PvP. There's a reason I don't do Arenas: Because I am 100% fully aware that this is not and will most likely never be a strong suit for me. My idea of PvP on my rogue is Run in screaming my fool head off, spam Fan of Knives, desperately hope there is a healer behind me. Rather than bang my head against the wall, I will continue quietly stepping out of the way and letting other far more capable people do the PvP.
And there are a heck of a lot of capable people out there, too. Let's check out a few posts from around the blogosphere about PvP and the upcoming end to the Arena season.

If you feel you are bad/uncomfortable in PvP and want to learn things, shadowing someone is not a bad idea and CCing people they are fighting/protecting them or guarding a healer is not terrible. Not enough people play as a team, which is why BG's seem so lopsided at times.

This is the only way I ever PvP. I find a healer and follow them around protecting them.
I do not enjoy it, but this has made some of those Holiday PvP things less brutal. I feel obligated to stay and fight it out after getting whatever achievement I need.
It helps when I go with a healer friend of mine who loves PvP. She understands it and I just follow along and beat anyone that tries to get her.

@Ravyn
Enjoy it. Thrive in it. Revel in it. Nothing to be ashamed of there. It's PvP baby. You team mates will probably thank you for it. It's an awesome way contribute.

Pretty much this. I've assembled and D/E'ed 4 different PvP sets over the course of the last two expansions. While PvP and Arena is something that has intrigued me, I always devolve into the at-the-arcade-playing-street-fighter-frantically-mash-random-buttons-while-you-get-your-face-drug-across-the-floor mode that doesn't seem to accomplish much. Random BG's are often people just screaming at each other and slogging through those to get gear good enough to be competitive in more organized play is painful.

I've never done arenas or rated BGs. But, every weekend I BG and I think it's one of my favorite aspects of the game. I hope to do arena someday but so far, it's escaped me.
When I 1st starting playing WoW I hated any PvP, but as a member of a very small guild who can barely schedule a 5-person run, I've learned that PvP can be fun for the loner player. My favorite used to be Alterac. I still like it, but see Wowcrendor's video of it to see why it's not as fun anymore. I have to say my favorite is Isle of Conquest now.
My least fave is Twin Peaks and Warsong. I'm not a giant fan of Gilneas, but it's ok. I love Tol Barad even tho I don't need anymore rep from them, I still try to catch a battle or two.
After 4 years of playing I have been in a total of 1 raid and not very many dungeons, but PvP is something I do a lot of and love it. If it were not for the PvP aspect of the game, this casual would have stopped playing a long time ago.

I agree, if it weren't for PvP I would have cancelled months ago. I don't do arena very often (not very good and no regular partner) but I am definitely better than average (I won't claim GOOD) at randoms and I the few RBGs I have done I have managed OK. My MOST favorite BG is WSG, and I have most of the achieves including [Ironman] and [Frenzied Defender].
The other good thing about PvP is that it makes for a good gearing strategy - HPJP at a rate of 3:2 either way. One AV weekend can get you a long way towards being reasonably geared. It definitely fills in the gaps when PvE content just isn't working for you.
4K resil is possible with HP gear, so the disadvantage against the arena goons isn't that bad. (I don't think the 2200-rated arena goons should be allowed into regulars unless there is a balance on each side, because they are so much better geared with gear you can't get elsewhere that skill gets removed from the equation).

I love it. From the very first time I did it (world PvP). I love just about all the PvP achievements. I suck at it. I tried making some macros but I refuse to use addons and get all the fancy gear (mice/expensive keyboards/gaming PC) to play. I think I have some good strategies and have a good feel for what the other side is doing. I am a good field general. Like I said earlier, you don't have to be great or feel that you are out of your element. Nothing wrong with following the pack and defending those who need it. When I play my mage, I am sure I piss a lot of people off. Freezing, sheeping, counterspelling, spell stealing. :)

I am not a fan of PvP; IMHO, it is mostly for teenage boys or those with the maturity or endowment(compensating) of same.
But until 4.3., there was a reason to do arenas.
1) Find a mildly competent and patient friend and form 2v2 team on monday.
2) lose 20 or so arenas and you will start to be able to win one out of every 2-4 - cap CP
3) repeat the next day on Tuesday
In less than a day, you now can get a 384 PvP head or shoulders that are better for PvE than the 353 trolls. before the 365 BS weapons were out the PvP weapon was also valuable.
Other than that, the purpose of arenas is to give Blizzard an excuse to nerf my PvE abilities because of some irrelevant-to-me PvP balance issue.

I am old enough to be a teenager's good looking, well-hung Father, thank you.

This may be the best WoW parody to date.

I am terrible at PvP, too.

My idea of PvP'ing is to attempt a bubble-hearth on my Pally then yell obscenities when a Priest dispells my bubble.

I'm not bad at battlegrounds at all, but alliance in general seem to be lol... Everytime I end up in a bg I remind myself why I don't queue that much anymore. It's just painful and mindboggling to witness how bad alliance can be. No clue about the objectives, no clue what to do in general really, they should make queueing for battlegrounds harder so they can't manage that too, sorry :p.
Boozard Nov 17th 2011 1:29AM
i think that's just your perception. i'm horde and i tell you i feel the exact same way about horde sometimes. i swear sometimes i feel i lose every single BG for the entire night. EOTS is the worst.
so yeah.... it just depends on who you get grouped up with sometimes

This is THE best WoW parody song I've ever heard. Superior voices, soothing harmonies, lyrics that made me-- WTF?
I PWN YOU AT SPELLING NOOBIE! For the Olde Gods' sake, if you're going to use written words for public exhibition, learn to spell, use a spell-checker, find a friend who can spell and have them proofread...SOMETHING.
[Packs brain-bits back into skull and moves along.]

Sorry. I reacted to this video as if this were a "Movie Watch." It's not a "Movie Watch." I'll put my own head in the noose immediately.
