The Queue: Which poster should I get next?

As my awesome wall of gaming posters and art is coming together, I am at an impasse. There is room on the wall for one more large WoW patch art poster, and I don't know which to get. There are two that I want, but I can't decide. You're going to help me out, The Queue. The Ahn'Qiraj patch art is already on my wall, but you know that if you've seen my YouTube stuff or the new WoW Insider Weekly News Update in sparkling video form. Here are my options for my next PrintWarcraft purchase:
- Fury of the Sunwell, patch 2.4
- Secrets of Ulduar, patch 3.1
Hensonite asked:
What am I transmogrifying - the look of an individual item or the look of a "slot"?
Example: If i transmogrify my helmet to look like goggles, will only that helmet change its appearance or will everything I wear on my head be displayed as those goggles?
You transmog the look of an individual item, not the slot that it goes in. Transmog works like an enchant that changes the appearance of the item, which is why it gets ripped off when you put a transmogged item into void storage.
Manowarrior asked:
Is it just me or does it seem like regular tues morning maintenance is a thing of the past? Can't remember the last time it happened other than for a patch. Did blizzard improve something?
The regular maintenance schedule still happens and Blizzard still accounts for it, but sometimes there is no need for it and rolling restarts are good enough. My guess is that Blizzard runs some diagnostics over the course of the week, and if numbers come up green, servers don't have to go down for an extended period of time. Also, if there are no huge fixes, bugs, game-breaking exploits, or assets to add, then there is just no need for downtime. The technology has improved considerably since six years ago.
Jestin asked:
If I'm looking to break into the WoW TCG, what would be a good box to buy? I'm looking through all of the xpacs available on the website and there are just so many. I'd like to find one that can ease me into the gameplay, has potential for some neat loot cards and has great art. Any thoughts?
If you would like to hop into the WoW TCG, your best bet is to start with one of the complete class starter decks. Each class starter deck comes with a 60-card, ready-to-go deck for playing the game. There's a rule book in the package as well. If you have a favorite card shop or hobby store that sells trading card games, it might even have a deck there that you could try one of the nights that people go and play the game. Plus, the class starter decks don't break the bank in the cost department.
The other option for breaking into the game is to go see the cool folks over at Cryptozoic in person at one of the Darkmoon Faire events. The next U.S. ones are starting up in 2012. Going to the events is an awesome way to break into the game because you get to sit down and play the game right away with people who want to teach you as well as potentially getting some discounts on products. Plus, the people at Cryptozoic are really nice.
Valorum asked:
I know absolutely zero about pokemon. How far behind will I be when this feature appears in WoW?
You will not be behind at all when the Pet Battle system comes in Mists of Pandaria. Everything is being built from the ground up for this new system, and everyone is coming in blind. If you've ever played a turn-based video game like an RPG, you'll have a working knowledge of the mechanics.
Ellesmere asked:
Do you think garrosh likes cake, pie, or cookies more?
Pizza.

...because the customer is always right?

I know this is a WoW blog and all, but during my present WoW break I have been playing DCUO. I have to say, it is damned fun and refreshingly different. I started out on the F2P when it went live but recently upgraded to legendary because I was having so much fun.
Anyone else playing it and loving, liking, or hating it?
I have to be honest, I have spent a good deal of time in the character creation screens. I loves making me some superheroes!
MattKrotzer Nov 16th 2011 11:17AM
I'm intrigued to try it out. How limited is the F2P? I'm unlikely to add any other subscription games, but I loved City of Heroes back in the day... and I gave Champions Online a try, but it felt like a half-assed update to CoH, with no creative energy put into it.
DCUO seemed interesting, but I approach these things warily.
llcjay2003 Nov 16th 2011 11:35AM
The only real setback for the F2P that I noticed was the 2 toon restriction. Other than that, it is not very different at all (at least for leveling). Also, you only have to spend $10 in the online store to get upgraded to premium and you get 6 toon slots. I would recommend whatever the Green Lantern pack is because you get access to the "light" power class (which is awesome) as well as an endgame raid.

I played a little of DCUO (thanks for the heads-up, Steam!) and was mostly "meh" about it, aside from the fact that, for whatever reason, my mouse moves way way too slowly-- likely due to graphical stuff.
Creating a superhero was fun. Using my powers for the first time was awesome. Then I left the starting event and... I dunno. It seemed to lose its luster. I like the looting system and how it kind of reminded me of many console games (e.g. breaking things apart for health or power boosts). Clicking to do an action brought me back to Diablo I and II. lol Maybe after I get used to the mechanics and know where things are in the main compound thingie, I'll like it better.

I wanted to get into DCUO when it was in Beta, but never got around to it. I may give it a shot this weekend if the TOR beta doesn't eat my life. It looked like a lot of fun.
Tirrimas Nov 16th 2011 1:58PM
DCUO is fun. There are some niggling annoying things about it (argh controls!) but overall, it's a blast to play. It's a nice change. My hero is Ravelynn and my villian is Carmina Styx, if anyone wants to say hi.
I'm sticking with the F2P version because Steam has Oblivion on sale this week for 75% off. *flails*

Almost certainly, yes you will still be able to grind out the rep at 90. But you'll have to wait for MoP to even get started and if they go through with stat flattening in MoP, it may be no easier then than it is now.
But even if Heroics weren't too difficult, a better bet would be to quest around Northrend. Quests that give rep for *any* of the 4 subfactions give half as much towards Horde Expedition rep as spillover. The Argent Tourney dailys are great as they're very quick to blaze through, half the rep given towards Sunreavers goes toward Horde Expedition and you work your way towards numerous achievements and some extra mounts and pets while you're at it.

Q for Q: With the launch of Cata I managed to get my girlfriend to play WoW and she's been hooked since. She is also a big reader but isn't familiar with alot of the Warcraft lore. I was curious to know if the WoW books are approachable for someone with very limited lore knowledge or do they assume you know all the major players?
Bapo Nov 16th 2011 11:20AM
Most of the books are pretty easy to get into. If she's just into cataclysm lore, The Shattering and Thrall:TotA would be good ones. I haven't read any of the other books except Arthas, sunwell trilogy, and the dk book, so I can't say much about those, except people dislike knaaks writing.
Shinae Nov 16th 2011 11:22AM
Oops, I replied to the wrong comment. But I was also going to reply to you.
I think WoWpedia.org is great for getting a quick introduction to the lore. I could see someone who is not already familiar with Warcraft lore getting confused or overwhelmed if they pick up a novel.
Killik Nov 16th 2011 7:35PM
What Shinae said (which seems to be becoming my catchphrase :p) - wowpedia is good for catching up on lore, from a starting point of her choosing. It's also well-written, for a fan wiki.
Laaryl Nov 16th 2011 11:13AM
Definitely the Ulduar one. It's sparkly! :)
Kunikenwad! Nov 16th 2011 11:14AM
Clearly you should get the Ulduar poster, for it is the best raid in the world ... of warcraft.
whig Nov 16th 2011 11:16AM
For your poster, can I suggest:
http://brandonbird.com/sega_ford.html
or the Ulduar one. nice color contrast with AQ.
Ellesmere Nov 16th 2011 11:30AM
I'd play Sega with him! :D
Tirrimas Nov 16th 2011 2:06PM
Hell, I'd play pick up sticks with him.
Rawr.

Good luck breaking into the TCG. The biggest boon is to have a group of people to regularly play with, whether that means organized play at your friendly local gaming store (FLGS) or you have a group of buddies who just want something fun to do.
mem0ryburn Nov 16th 2011 4:28PM
All you need is one friend willing to start up with you, you don't need to start a guild or anything.
Regardless, the social aspect wasn't your question. I would recommend picking up two things to start; a starter deck like Mat already said, and an Epic Collection set.
The Epic collection set will give you SIX packs of cards (which is about the cost of the box collection itself), a card box (with dividers), a deck box (with sideboard divider), a playmat (I use mine as a giant mousepad, who the hell whips out a giant may whenever they play? lol), a couple extra cards (foil heroes and a guaranteed loot card), and a checklist for the set in full colour, illustrated book form (quitelike the M:tG set lists if you've seen those). The Epic Collection box can be found for a number of different sets and is a great solution to organization as well as jumping into new sets.
I think you could pick up the Epic Collection AND the starter deck together for under fifty dollars (orabout $55-$60 if you're in Canada).
I hope you see this, despite it being buried in the godawful comments section this place has, Mat should have mentioned the Epic Collection to anybody interested in starting the game.

Q for the q,
I want the recipy for the mechano hog but im not even close to the needed faction rep to be able to buy the plans. Also i want it on my engipriest and soloing wrath heroics is a slow pain. Can i still grind the needed rep in wrath heroics at level 90?
