*drops his head on the table*Blizz does not understand the stratification issues yet, do they?If we're forced to get gear off random loot drops, especially with other players, it gets tons harder. And if you are not at EXACTLY the right level with EXACTLY the right gear, you won't even get invited along to get the chance.Oy vey...

The design encourages players to use the Raid Finder to get drops. You also get a sizable chunk of VP for using the Raid Finder (250 for each half of Dragon Soul, with a max of 500 per week), so it encourages players to get in there and come away with VP even if they don't get gear. Additionally, 5-mans will offer 150VP apiece for clearing them, the troll dungeons are being reduced to only requiring 3 boss kills total, and the ICC heroics promise to be faster than the current crop. So running 5-mans (and less of them too) is STILL a viable method of getting VP. And since you can buy gear for ALL SLOTS using VP in 4.3, the only unique thing you're getting off the raid bosses is Tier Pieces, and thus Set Bonuses, which are always intended to be cool bonuses and not mission-critical elements that are needed to clear the instance. What this change does is emphasize "killing the raid boss for loot" instead of "killing the raid boss for his VPs." It doesn't remove VP from the raid equation, but instead makes the potentiality of a loot drop more appealing. And if you don't get the item in your regular raid, your guild can queue up in LFR, blast through the lower-difficulty version of the boss-fight, and you have a second shot at a lower iLvl version of the same piece of gear, which will still be an improvement over Normal Firelands gear.

You mean so far above the level that you couldn't possibly need the drops, but other than that I agree. The point is, valor is going back to its originally intended purpose: to supplement boss drops. I for one am glad, and I only raid casually. It's such a shame seeing so many boss drops getting sharded or going to offsets automatically because "I'm waiting for tier" which you can only get from a vendor. Almost no one cares about boss loot anymore, unless it's weapons or possibly trinkets.

@ Mr. CrowI know I had read somewhere they wanted to put VP options for all gear slots, but I didn't see any shoulder pieces in the pictures taken from the PTR posted on this blog a few weeks ago...did I miss them or were they not implemented back then??I really hope they have VP shoulder options because I haven't been able to raid and get any shoulders above the 5-man ilvl :(

@Mr. CrowShoulder pieces (Tier or otherwise) still won't be available. That's it, though.

It does seem they reversed their decision on this somewhat; currently on the PTR neither shoulder nor leg items can be purchased via Valor, leaving just 6 armor slots (helm, chest, wrist, hands, waist, feet) purchasable via Valor, along with non-armor items

@Mr. Crow How does changing VP make gear drops more appealing? Are they dropping better or more loot? To me that would make the drops more attractive. Since when did everyone start killing raid bosses for VP anyway? If VP was the only thing people cared about 5 mans are a quick enough capper. I never go raiding for VP... it just doesn't make any sense.By Blizzard's logic 5 mans shouldn't drop any badges because the loot there is REALLLLLYYY unattractive.

"""What this change does is emphasize "killing the raid boss for loot" instead of "killing the raid boss for his VPs." It doesn't remove VP from the raid equation, but instead makes the potentiality of a loot drop more appealing."""This is one of the few things that I really disliked about 4.3. I have a hate/hate relationship with RNG-based loot, to the point I never farm random things - and this includes raid gear. I even avoid looking at loot tables like the plague. Why? I'm a pessimist. I don't remember the time the gear I wanted finally dropped; I remember just the frustration from all the times it didn't drop. The time I had the dumb idea of looking at the loot table for a couple bosses, and saw that a couple of supposedly high drop rate items that would be useful to me never dropped, I almost gave up on raiding.(Yeah, I was the rare kind of kid that didn't like trading cards. If someone gave me a pack of those, I would sell it to the other kids without opening the pack.)On the other hand, I don't have much problem with a grind with a maximum duration, such as grinding VP for gear. And, if this does not seem enough, loot rolls are among the things I hate the most in raids. I really don't like having to roll against the other players. So, for me, this change, plain and simple, makes me less willing to raid. I don't care about boss loot because, the moment I start to care about it, I stop raiding. My only incentive, besides the fun factor, are the points.
