After reading the comments, I wonder if this is another step from raiding being *the* endgame activity to *an* endgame activity. Where PvE raiding, rated PvP, ~nebulous others~ are all on an equal footing, with each having their bragging rights gear, titles, pets, mounts.

People should have fun and be rewarded in that part of the game they like most. Not because they simply need to do the "un" fun things they dislike just to get gear.
For example: a guy doing BG's all day long - because he loves them - can now convert PVP points into highest PVE points more easely.
It is still far slower than getting pure PVE rewards but at least the guy gets his pleasure.
The same for the PUG Raids: you don't want to be in a guild ? So at least you can see some content some of the time (furstration will be huge of course but at least you'll be lucky a few times and see content you never gonna see).
