The OverAchiever: Guide to Pilgrim's Bounty 2011, part 2

Pilgrim's Progress
Pilgrim's Progress (Alliance) and Pilgrim's Progress (Horde) are fairly easy, though if you haven't yet leveled cooking, you'll have to put a bit of elbow grease in to ensure you're capable of finishing all five quests. The holiday's five dailies are all offered by Pilgrim's Bounty NPCs located in major cities (Stormwind, Ironforge, and Darnassus for Alliance or Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, and Undercity for Horde). All five can be completed in one day, so if you don't have a lot of time over the week that Pilgrim's Bounty is running, just budget about half an hour on a good day, and you're all set.
For Alliance, the quest links are as follows:
- Can't Get Enough Turkey Bring 20 Slow-Roasted Turkeys to Caitrin Ironkettle outside Ironforge.
- Don't Forget the Stuffing! Bring 20 Spice Bread Stuffing to Caitrin Ironkettle outside Ironforge.
- Easy As Pie Bring 20 pieces of Pumpkin Pie to Mary Allerton outside the gates of Darnassus.
- She Says Potato Bring 20 Candied Sweet Potatoes to Jasper Moore outside Stormwind.
- We're Out of Cranberry Chutney Again? Bring 20 servings of Cranberry Chutney to Ellen Moore outside Stormwind.
For Horde, the quest links are as follows:
- Can't Get Enough Turkey Bring 20 Slow-Roasted Turkeys to Ondani Greatmill outside Orgrimmar.
- Don't Forget the Stuffing! Bring 20 Spice Bread Stuffing to Ondani Greatmill outside Orgrimmar.
- Easy As Pie Bring 20 pieces of Pumpkin Pie to Mahara Goldwheat outside Thunder Bluff.
- She Says Potato Bring 20 Candied Sweet Potatoes to William Mullins in Undercity's courtyard.
- We're Out of Cranberry Chutney Again? Bring 20 servings of Cranberry Chutney to Roberta Carter in Undercity's courtyard.
Pilgrim's Paunch
Pilgrim's Paunch is done while seated, though your unfortunate and groaning toon is going to have to waddle his/her way around a few capitals. The Spirit of Sharing buff is gained when you eat all five dishes available at a Bountiful Table: turkey, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pie. For this achievement, you'll have to run to each of your faction's cities, park yourself at each of the five chairs around a Bountiful Table (or ask other people at the chairs to pass you dishes so you can eat them), and gorge your way to the Spirit of Sharing buff. Once you've done this in all four major cities, you'll get the achievement.
The Spirit of Sharing buff is a 10% bonus to all reputation gains for an hour, which will come in handy on toons who are still slaving away on rep grinds.
Pilgrim's Peril
Ugh. Blizzard has a peculiar mania for sending players to their deaths in foreign cities, and
Pilgrim's Peril (Alliance) and Pilgrim's Peril (Horde) are this holiday's contribution to the cause. Anyway, the achievement requires you to sit at hostile Bountiful Tables while wearing at least one piece of Pilgrim attire. As all those of us who have done achievements like King of the Fire Festival are painfully aware, this rarely ends well, but sitting is at least quick. On PvE servers, you won't get flagged in all of the enemy cities due to feast area placement, but you will get flagged in some. Each faction has two cities in which they should be safe and two cities in which they won't.
The locations of each capital's feast area should be as follows:
- Stormwind Southeast of the main gates (east of the path into the city). Horde players will not get flagged here on PvE servers.
- Ironforge Directly outside the main gates. Horde players will not get flagged here on PvE servers.
- Darnassus Directly east of the main city (in the courtyard between the main gates and the Warrior's Terrace). All players will have to run the length of the city in order to reach the feast area, and Horde players will be harassed by guards every step of the way. This is by far the most inconvenient (and for Horde, dangerous) of all eight feast areas to reach. Don't go at server high time.
- The Exodar Directly outside the main city entrance (i.e. eastern side of the main building). Horde players will get flagged.
- Orgrimmar Historically this was southeast of the main gates and is probably still in the general area post-Cataclysm. Alliance players will (hopefully) not get flagged here on PvE servers.
- Undercity In the Ruins of Lordaeron courtyard immediately inside the main entrance to the city. Despite not being located far into the complex, this is the nastiest area for Alliance to reach, as there's steady Horde traffic from both the zeppelins and Silvermoon teleport, and the entrance to the Ruins is an unfortunate choke point. Don't go at server high time.
- Thunder Bluff Directly below the western elevators. Despite appearing to be outside of the city, the feast area is still within it and will get Alliance players flagged.
- Silvermoon City South of the city's main gates. Alliance players will not get flagged here on PvE servers.
Pilgrim attire is a reward from any of the cooking dailies given by NPCs in the feast areas, and it's extremely easy to get. You should have no difficulty collecting as many pieces as you want. Put on a dress, robe, or attire, and hie thee to your enemies' feast areas.
As with all achievements requiring you to enter an enemy city:
As with all achievements requiring you to enter an enemy city:
- Try to go during your server's off hours, if possible.
- Try not to go alone.
- Plan your route in advance and know which cities you'll hit in which order.
- Budget time in the quite likely event that some jackass camping the tables decides to make your life miserable.
Terokkar Turkey Time
Terokkar Turkey Time is even easier this year than it's been previously, as being level-capped in Cataclysm tends to render survivability concerns in BC dungeons moot. Talon King Ikiss is the last boss of Sethekk Halls, a Burning Crusade dungeon located in the Auchindoun complex of Terokkar Forest. Still better, the achievement doesn't care if you defeat Ikiss on normal or heroic. Pick up some Pilgrim attire from the daily quests, head to Sethekk Halls, and you're in business.
As long as you're there, you might as well have a crack at Anzu if you're doing the heroic version and want a shot at the Reins of the Raven Lord.
Turkey Lurkey
Turkey Lurkey (Alliance) and Turkey Lurkey (Horde) are, in combination with The Turkinator, generally the two most troublesome achievements. We've already discussed why The Turkinator can make life difficult, but unless your server is home to an unusually high number of orc, dwarf, gnome, and troll rogues, then this achievement can give you some grief too. Actually, I would argue that Turkey Lurkey is probably more difficult in Cataclysm than it's been previously, as the 2009 and 2010 incarnation of the game had so many people of both factions camped in Dalaran.
Turkey Shooters, like Pilgrim clothing, are potential rewards from the holiday's daily quests. Getting a Shooter is very easy, but finding one rogue of each race might keep you occupied for a bit. Once you've finished off your own faction, your best bet is to sit outside of enemy capitals hoping that a rogue you need will show up (unless you can enlist help from friendly members on the opposite faction). However, if last year is any indication, enterprising players will roll rogues from the less-played races, beg a summon from a friendly warlock, and park themselves in a high-traffic area to grant achievements to a grateful public. On my server last year, several level one rogues with names like Shootmepls and Turkeytime were lined up on the Dalaran bank steps. This year, if you're not having any luck finding the elusive dwarf rogue, you might want to advertise on your realm forums or just keep trying. As our commenters have suggested, you may also want to try queuing for battlegrounds or trying a neutral city like Dalaran or Shattrath to see who's hanging around.

You don't need an Auchenai Key to get into Heroic Sethekk Halls anymore. Nitpicky, I know, but I thought I'd point that out.
I do appreciate these Holiday guides a lot! For one thing it lets me plan things out before the holiday starts.
November 21 right?
Kole Nov 17th 2011 6:40PM
20th-26th...I love these guides too.
Thankfully (ha!) I will never be doing these holidays again for the achievement...but this year I am going to be attempting to level cooking on all (that's about 15) of my alts...gulp!

Fixed, and thanks!

"Fortunately, the achievement doesn't care if you defeat Ikiss on normal or heroic, so if you don't have the requisite honored reputation with Lower City to purchase the Auchenai Key to unlock the heroic version, that doesn't matter. "
The rep requirement was taken out with Catacylsm. You can do it them all on heroic regardless of if you even have the reputation even listed in your book.

Fixed -- thank you!

For Pilgrim's Peril, wouldn't old world flying make part of the trip much easier? At least for those level 60 and up.
Piper Nov 17th 2011 6:40PM
Gah, brain cramp. I meant through Darnassus for Horde toons and Undercity for Alliance toons. Fly in, sit, probably-die-then-res, fly out. I haven't tested this out for my Horde toon, but I know Undercity was trivial to do during Hallow's End for my Alliance toons when they could fly.
Allison Robert Nov 17th 2011 7:13PM
It definitely does, although you're pretty vulnerable in that you have to land and get a seat the enemy tables no matter what. Having to lose any guards (or worse, players) on you before you remount can be a real PITA too. I would flying in the old world makes it a lot easier to reach the tables, but the ease of getting out is still subject to chance.
bookworm13 Nov 17th 2011 7:15PM
Azeroth flying makes everything easier, but especially for Undercity with its chokepoint gate. You may not get a chance to fly out if anyone puts you in combat so go naked and clear your bags of gear with durability in case you need to spirit rez at a graveyard.
During Hallow's End I would tag Alliance at UC to keep them in combat but only after they completed the quest and if I was lower level than them. :)
Piper Nov 17th 2011 7:46PM
@ Allison
I go into these things figuring I'm going to die. :) As long as I can get the achievement before dying I'm fine. I guess that comes from playing so many FPSes over the years that I don't get annoyed about dying as long as I get my goal accomplished.
Amaxe Nov 18th 2011 1:15AM
"clear your bags of gear with durability in case you need to spirit rez at a graveyard"
So the outfitter "Birthday Suit" no longer saves you from damage when you have a teleport malfunction/dismount from 30,000 feet?
Never knew of that change (or was it a case of a WoW "Urban Legend" that you could strip to save your gear?)
DarkAviator Nov 18th 2011 2:01AM
@Amaxe
Gear in your bags still doesn't get damaged when you die.
But Allisons point was about rezzing at the spirit healer, which damages ALL your gear, worn or in your bags. Which can get quite expensive ...

As DarkAviator said, its the spirit rez at the graveyard that will hit your durability. Don't forget to leave the pilgrim gear on though!

You do not get flagged when you go to Ogrimar as long as you approach from the south east the tables are basically in the same place they used to be . . . i flew in dismounted sat down. . . jumped up and mounted up then flew away while players were stare'n at me, no guards or npc's responded :) good luck everyone!
restodr00d Nov 17th 2011 6:38PM
In Ironforge you might get flagged, there's a guard that usually patrols way too near the tables (or there's a NPC way too near the tables that will call for guards, don't remember that well), so if you don't notice you will die, either the guard will swarm you, the fall will kill you or the players might have fun with you... I died two years ago because of it... i was 75 T.T
Allison Robert Nov 17th 2011 7:16PM
Ohhhh yes, the pathing guard. I had to avoid him on my Horde main too. I confess, I'm not sure if he's still there, but I'll check to see if he's still an issue when the holiday goes live and add a note.
sezen Nov 21st 2011 10:00PM
I just spent 6 minutes trying to sit at the Ironforge table as a Hordie. There is a guard that pats around close to two of the tables. There are also a couple other guards positioned a little to close to the other tables for comfort/safety.
I went for the chair closest to the cliff edge, waited for the pathing guard to walk away and hoped for the best. A few missed attempts involved me levitating myself off the cliff, but eventually I was able to get it.
Just remember that you have to dismount before you can sit in the chair!
Pyromelter Nov 17th 2011 6:48PM
Regarding flagging... whaaaa? Maybe it's just guards always attacking, but every year i've done this, i've always been flagged (as horde) at all the alliance areas. This is on a PVE server. I thought you got flagged as soon as you enter the country of the opposite faction's city. And I could swear I've pwned kids at both orgrimmar and TB tables in past years...
Allison Robert Nov 17th 2011 7:22PM
That's odd. On my Horde main, I managed not to get flagged at the Stormwind or Ironforge tables, albeit at the tables with the most distance from each city (you're right about being immediately flagged within city territory, but the feast areas were located a sufficient distance from them -- or at least, a set of tables was). My Ally toons weren't flagged outside Org or Silvermoon.
I'll check this out when the holiday goes live. It's possible this changed last year when I was just running alts through the holiday for fun and cooking skill and wasn't really paying attention to the PvP stuff, but my characters definitely didn't get flagged in all the cities on a PvE server in 2009.
Pyromelter Nov 18th 2011 12:40AM
I'm trying to remember... I'm pretty sure that if you aren't flagged in the zone for the capital cities, you do get flagged as soon as you sit down.
Been too long since I did it... maybe I'm completely wrong about it. Would be a good idea to check at any rate.
