The Queue: Heroic Alysrazor can DIAF, because I sure have

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky), senior editor at WoW Insider, will be your host today.
I don't know what it is, but its seems like every four or five attempts on heroic Alysrazor, I find myself dying to something incredibly stupid ... like standing in the fire of a worm. Maud'Dib would be most upset with me.
Update 1:30 a.m. EDT: Heroic Alysrazor finally did DIAF. Woot! Yes, I just liveblogged my guild's boss kill.
Starlin asked:
My casual raiding team had a progression wipe to Staghelm at 20k health last night. Yes, a split second later and dots would have downed him. Could there be a more frustrating wipe? Wasn't that close enough? Should bosses despawn so fast after the last raid member falls?

It happens to the best of us. But yes, the boss should despawn that fast -- there would always be some person, some group, some team that would want it up for just a second longer. So Blizzard made a call and said as soon as the last person dies, that's that. In my opinion, that's the correct call to make.
But, more so, take a look at what your group is doing. If you're getting the boss down to 20k, chances are you just need to make one minor adjustment and then you'll be good. But at the same time, dead is not dead. Chin up; you're close, and you can get it!
RGSmith asked:
Q for Q: With the launch of Cata I managed to get my girlfriend to play WoW and she's been hooked since. She is also a big reader but isn't familiar with alot of the Warcraft lore. I was curious to know if the WoW books are approachable for someone with very limited lore knowledge or do they assume you know all the major players?
I recommend reading them in chronological order; it helps make things easier to understand. And ... we happen to have a handy guide for you to read explaining just that!
Musratt asked:
Why are there turtles?
They wondered into some ooze and are now dedicated to ending the evil antics of Shredder.
Marq asked:
do you have any idea when patch 4.3 will hit the U.K ?
There's been no official announcement. But, current bets are on Dec. 6 (Tuesday) in the United States and Dec. 7 (Wednesday) in the EU.
Transit asked:
Why do you think there is a level 2 (or better) restriction on guild transfers?
There's a lot of reasons, but mainly to stop personal bank alt guilds from flooding the transfer system and moving around massive amounts of wealth at a seeming whim.

I'm not sure it counts as a liveblog if the blog wasn't live when you wrote it.
Nina Katarina Nov 17th 2011 11:04AM
If he plays a Forsaken, "live" must mean something different...
dj.clayden Nov 17th 2011 11:09AM
Don't take this away from him, he seemed really happy about him.

The update may not have been live, but it sounds like Alysrazor wasn't either.
Maymer Nov 17th 2011 11:59AM
So Holisky downed Hero Aly?
Looks like Aly isn't Free-

Adam, I have to say I'm a bit jealous of you. My guild gave up on progression a few weeks ago (6/7 heroic and half the raid just said "whaaaa Ragz is too hard let's just get on the PTR") and now were just doing farm content for gear no one needs as attendance slowly declines.
I miss progression.

Heroic Ragnaros is a wall that make many cry. I think my group is about to hit 300 wipes on him, but apparently that's around where everyone downs him. So maybe the long haul is almost over!

Congrats, Adam! How many do ya got left? :)
We haven't been working on H Alys. We just got Heroic Baleroc down though, whew. I'm not sure we'll get to Alys. Next week is Thanksgiving, so no new bosses. Week after that is probably our last Firelands week. Definitely won't get to H Ragnaros!
That's ok though. It wasn't ever that important to me to down all the Heroic modes. It was just a fun challenge while we waited for the next raid. I'm pretty content just downing Normal stuff and playing around in Heroics. I would like to get the purple Firehawk though...pretty close now. Except there is one thing standing in our way. No, not a Heroic boss.
"Do a Barrel Roll." Fire Tornadoes. GAH. That achievement really should have been a self one, not a group one. Terrible idea. :/

Adam troll'd Matt's post yesterday... and now Alex troll'd Adam... Tomorrow will be someone trolling Alex.
And tomorrow is Friday. (in case that someone needs material)

How does rep gain from faction tabards Work? I'm leveling a 75 mage thru Wrath dungeons, and I'm currently rocking an Ironforge rep and sometimes I get rep for thefaction and other times I do not. I also notice inconsistencies sometimes I get rep from the max level dungeon available to me sometimes I don't, other times I'll get rep from the lower end of the wrath dungeons and sometimes I dont... seems random at times.
Noyou Nov 17th 2011 11:41AM
When the city rep tabards first came out, you could only get city rep from heroic wrath dungeons. If you are getting any rep at all in regular wrath dungeons, I would say that is a bug and it is a bonus. Doing the 2 city dailies in Ironforge would get you some good rep (500 a day) for 5-10 min of activity+ max level XP while leveling.

The old world tabards (Main Faction city tabards) work in all old world dungeons, all wrath dungeons except those flagged as a lvl 80 dungeon (any wrath dungeons except Occulus, HoL, UP, CoS, ToC, FoS, PoS, HoR), and any pre-85 Cata dungeon (all Cata dungeons except Lost City, HoO, and GB). Wrath faction tabards work in the dungeons flagged as lvl 80 dungeons and Wrath heroics, Cata faction tabards work in Cata dungeons flagged as level 85, and all Cata heroics.
Hope that helps.

Gratz on Heroic Alys. She's a pain in the ass.
My group's been missing players this week, to the point that we couldn't run on Tuesday or even manage Heroic Shannox last night, which was disappointing as hell. So we ran Normal Modes up through Majordomo. Hopefully it'll be a short night tonight on Ragnaros.
Geiss Nov 17th 2011 11:36AM
exactly what happened to us tuesday night - missing top two DPS, so we just trounced regulars, and left rag for (one-shot) wednesday night.
MattKrotzer Nov 17th 2011 12:13PM
Yeah, it's especially off-putting because next week will probably be a bust due to Thanksgiving.

Why are there no mailboxes in Ironforge? Blizz went mailbox crazy with the other cities but my leveling dwarf has to run all over the place to find one.
Noyou Nov 17th 2011 11:22AM
This. I think the mailboxes in SW are multiplying via rabbit sex. Ironforge has no such rabbits. The main place they need one is - The Great Forge! Really 1-2 would do, since everything is in such a nice circle.
MattKrotzer Nov 17th 2011 12:20PM
There's convenient mailboxes right by the AH and Bank. It's pretty hard to miss them on your way in/out of town.
Haga Nov 17th 2011 1:17PM
Think Ironforge is bad? Try Thunder Bluff! I think there is only one!
Glaras Nov 17th 2011 1:34PM
In IF, there's a mailbox by the bank, but not by the AH, unless it's been hiding behind the sign board all this time. There is one by the inn just north of the commons, and there is one --why, is a complete mystery to me -- by the inn in the Military Ward. The last one I know of is in Tinkertown next to the entrance to the Tram.
But there isn't one in the Great Forge, which is where all the profession trainers are, and that is a huge shortcoming IMO.
