So, you've had a bad day. And you want to sing a sad song just to turn it all around. That's OK -- the Obsidian Brand has your back. They've created a parody of Daniel Powter's catchy tune called Bad Raid. You can probably see how the lyrics would go right away.
The animation and vocals were both incredibly compelling in this video. They felt a little random to me at first, but as I settled into the rhythm of the song, the progression of the graphics became more smooth. And since we can all empathize with having a surprisingly horrible, horrible raid, I think we can all identify with the video just fine. Interested in the wide world of machinima? That's fine, I didn't say he's a bad opera singer, I said it doesn't work in a pop song. I'm sure he'd kill Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli - but this was a train wreck. There is no such thing as a "good voice". There's only good voices for certain genres. Joe Cocker transformed a Beatles song in to one of the most soulful and recognizable tunes in the world, but he could never (and I do mean never) consider trying to be a Broadway singer. He would go from genius to useless.
My point? I'm not dogging his ability to sing opera, I'm saying it doesn't work in pop.
I actually don't like the original version of this song but the voice on this track made it completely inoffensive to me - not so sure about the pacing, but wow, great voice.
First of all, thank you Michael Gray for giving us 15 minutes of fame and thank you, to those that like the video! I agree with the "bad" comments; this is not a song for me. It's not my genre. I've made another wow-parody, that's more like "me": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G92sNuyBHb4 This is what I want to be judged from, not the bad raid parody, that was simply a experiment from my side :)

Are they competing with Gigi for longest intro to a wow video?

Nice Parody though (shameless plug inc) I prefer Darkpippi the mage's version.

I agree, Darkpippi's is much better matched to the original song, and has better lyrics (IMO).
Lawliette Nov 18th 2011 12:23PM
It's not bad.. but he has the tempo of the original song all wrong.

This, I liked it in the end... but at the same time I died a little.

I liked the lyric spin for heals, but i agree, wish he had stuck with the original song more instead of going off on his own.

'Twas excellent! Hit the nail on the head : )

Darkpippi is a much better vocalist for this song.

Why is he singing like that?! It's like opera in a pop song... it could have been good if he wasn't trying to be Pavarotti.
Made my skin crawl.
Aedonix Nov 18th 2011 2:08PM
The actual truth of the matter is he is a trained opera singer, he was actually experimenting with singing in a different genre.

If only Dark Pippi's songs had more than a splash screen on Youtube...Quick, you there, random machinima artist, get permission and get to work!
Snuzzle Nov 18th 2011 6:17PM
Yeah, I too liked Dark Pippi's better.
