Volpin Props master prop-maker Harrison Krix (aka Volpin) has painstakingly created an
amazing replica of Thrall's signature weapon, the
Doomhammer. Made with incredible accuracy and intricately crafted materials, Volpin's Doomhammer is a work of art. The wolf heads are made from handmade casts, and the wood used in the hilt and body of the hammer were shaped with a lathe. I can't stop looking at the hi-res pictures, looking for new little details that I missed.
If you'd like to see the "making of" shots as well as learn more about the replica Doomhammer, check out
Volpin's site. His
Flickr page also has some amazing shots of the Doomhammer.

There's a comment about a Thrall costume being made on that site.
He's won various awards for costumes. This is likely going to be one of the next.
Look in his archives and find "Big Daddy"

Surprised this wasn't covered in an upcoming World of Warcrafts. Amazing detail, I'd love to do something like this my my skills lie in pencils not crafting :p

Johnny, it says he's a prop maker in the first sentence. His daytime job is to make props. Chances are he made this for funsies because he likes wow.

I wonder how much this cost in materials versus how much the "real" ones cost; didn't Blizzard release limited Doomhammers a while back like they did with Frostmourne? Or maybe it was just a promo like in a Blizzcon bag or something.
Either way a price point would be interesting. I assumed (before reading) that it was just gussies-up cardboard and such as so many props are, not actual wood and the like. It probably does add to the quality, but weighs a lot more, too! Wonder what the actual hammer-head is made out of.

According to the post on his site, Volpin built the hammer head out of cut styrene sheets and pvc foam board, so it's hollow, making the heaviest part of the hammer the wood handle. He states that all in all, it's around 8.5 pounds. For comparison's sake the Epic Weapons LARP version of the Doomhammer weighs 3 pounds, and their upcoming steel replica weighs 18 pounds.

I still cringe anytime I see any reference to a Shaman using one mace (aka Thrall). I want my 2-handed shaman back! /pout

Qazaam: Thrall Dual-specced.
He's Arms, elementalEnhance

Very nice. I admire people who can do stuff like this (my dad probably could have, if he was so inclined - he's a craftsman, but mostly builds furniture.) If I had my life to do over again, I'd have tried to take some crafting classes back in school and seen if I could have been any good at it. My talent also lies in pencils, as well.
I wonder if the dude really did it just for "funsies." It's nice insurance for if he ever falls on hard times, he can just sell it on e-bay and presto... life is good again :P
