Breakfast Topic: What's your idea of good random in-game fun?
Imagine you are an elemental shaman. You notice that Arathi Basin is on Call to Arms and decide to queue up. You've got a bit of a crazy streak in you, so you decide to head up to the Lumber Mill. You're new to the path of the shaman and are still experimenting with your abilities. The battle is getting pretty overwhelming, and you know you don't have a lot of health. You really don't want that warrior getting too close. You decide to throw out a Thunderbolt in an attempt keep some distance and watch in awe as the warrior's frustrated body sails beautifully through the air and off the cliff to meet his certain demise below.
That was awesome!
You've just found your purpose in WoW. After the BG, you relate your experience to your friends. Before you know it, you've got a group of elemental shaman and boomkins queuing up for Arathi Basin and Eye of the Storm with no other purpose in mind than to knock as many people to their deaths as possible. Unfortunately for the rest of your frustrated team, you don't care about winning or losing; you are having the time of your life.
While it certainly is fun to have the best gear, down the toughest raid bosses, or reach that next Arena rating, sometimes we all need to step back from the seriousness and remind ourselves that we are playing a game. Sometimes we need to take a break from the emblem grinding and talent tweaking and just do something that makes us laugh until our sides ache.
Whether it's forming a knockback brigade, repeatedly jumping off high cliffs, or dueling while under the influence of in-game alcohol, tell us what you do when you just want to have a good time.

What surprised me about WoW compared to SC and WC3 is that, with those rts titles, you could make so much in terms of levels, which came with LOADS of minigames. I know the players are the ones that put them out but I am amazed that 7 years into the game there is only really plants vs. zombies, and I am not even sure you can replay that. So I am hopin' the pokemon thing will be fun (and not go the way of previous ideas that were scrapped (>> achievement points buying fun little things/ insignias going over capes)

Agreed. I've heard quite a few complaints about the pokemon thing but I'm super excited for it. Before I started playing wow I mostly played rpg games like Final Fantasy. These games are packed full of mini games and extra things to do besides the main storyline. I'm a huge fan of mini-games and really look forward to pet battles and the new Dark Moon Fair.

If WoW had a system in place to allow players to do any of the old, low level instances, and still have some challenge, it would multiply the amount of non-trivial content available enormously.
One easy way to do so is to allow high level players to use lower level pre-made characters to run those old instances at the correct challenge level. Another way would be to finally implement mentoring/sidekicking systems so players can adjust their level (and gear level) to play the content at hand in the correct difficulty.
I would also love if Blizzard reworked those old instances into very challenging solo challenges, perhaps also providing a pre-made character to play each one. This could be tuned to (teach and) require most of the skills used in raids, and to be much less forgiving of any player failure than raids.

Playing starcraft II :)
I feel like there is nothing to do that falls under the criteria of 'random fun' . The only thing that maters is gear and achievements..

(Homer voice) "Mmmm, maters..."

Back when one of my previous guilds was working on Naxx early in Wrath, we were waiting at the stone when some random dude started dueling people. He made the mistake of dueling me, on my priest. I Mind Controlled him and walked him off the edge to his death. We were busting up in vent about it, especially considering that he and I were both Alliance characters. Never had a chance to do it again, but I still get a giggle whenever I think about it.

I am really bad at PvP, but every now and then I go with my Prot Warrior for a single purpose: To spell reflect things. Nothing makes my day like seeing a mage sheep herself :-D
WoWie Zowie Nov 23rd 2011 9:10AM
when i see a warrior cast spell reflect I actually try to cast sheep for that very reason. it helps me by regenerating all my health. I thought i was being a right git but if you did that on purpose then I guess I should thank you. =)
Revnah Nov 23rd 2011 9:33AM
Hahaha, you're welcome ;-)
In my defence, I use it on all casters, not just mages! Special moments of beauty are a DK putting Chains of Ice on himself, or some nasty huge channelled spell critting on its caster, lol.

I do similar in random BGs sometimes with my mage: I run around spellstealing anything that moves. I know I shouldn't or don't need to... but I'm amused by the random lottery of buff I get ranging from Blessing of Might (boooooo) to Bloodlust (wheeeeee!)

My favourite is a Death Knight Death Gripping himself over to me. Take THAT!

For my guild's birthday on Horde-heavy Chromaggus, we took over Stormwind. We threw a dance party in the Magic Quarter, got drunk, hung out on vent, killed anyone who crossed our paths. Later, me and one of my Officers jumped on hidden Alliance sluts and pour bounties on our heads, we handed out nearly 15kg to those who killed us first. After popular demand, and because the Alliamce were so severely outnumbered that they couldn't interfere, we went ahead and thanked Varian Wrynn for his hospitality by killing him and Genn, and then of course we hit the other caps to bag people some bear mounts. All in all a great success! Happy Birthday, !

I might surprise a lot of people there, but when I want to have a good time, I just run random heroics! Not ZA/ZG. Heroics.
I'm a 380 ilvl Enhance shaman and boy I love my spec! I love my char so much that I haven't played any other in 2 years. I love to DPS on it, it' so awesome. Sometimes I just feel like "Damn, I haven't got any fun for a while." Then I queue for a random heroics, I top the meters with ~8-10k above everyone else. I don't care. I help them. I have fun. I'm having a good time.
It won't be a surprise then to tell you guys I can't wait for "timed" runs in MoP with medals and stuff. Now I'll have a very good time!!
