Great article Matt, just want to give you a thumbs up for this:
"Next week, why Orgrimmar needs to burn."
Die-hard hordie here. One of the things that makes the orc story so great (or made it so great in the past) is when super uber messed up stuff would happen to them, like their leaders going all crazy and drinking demonic blood and going on rampages, or the entire orc race being beat into submission and slavery - and then the orcs rising up against all that and fighting for their freedom, rooting out the evil presences through blood and thunder.
And it seems as though there has been little to no bad stuff happen to the orcs in quite a while. I'm excited to see what you come up with.

You sir, are exactly right. The Horde have, in essence, had it too good for too long. Something needs to shake them to their core. I can think of nothing better than portraying Hellscream as Nero while Orgrimmar burns around him.

I like how the hordies are all "YEAH! ORGRIMMAR BURNS WOOOO! That'll make for an interesting story!" While the alliance, (of which I consider myself), is all " Theramore burning!? NOT FAIR! WE NEVER GET ANYTHING!"
I don't have enough palms and foreheads to slap with. This might sound odd, but the alliance needs more horde in it.

I wouldn't mind Varok Saurfang pulling a Brutus and Hellscream having an "Et tu, Brute?" moment right in front of the main hold.
Or maybe Thrall going all Aaron Burr on Hellscream.

That's because the Horde players know they couldn't possibly lose Orgrimmar--it's their capital city, after all. It's the Big One.
Theramore, on the other hand... gameplay-wise, it's a backwater town in a zone that was barely updated for the Shattering and only slightly even bothers to acknowledge the war.

It's the difference between a huge bully getting beat up by something unknown versus a puppy getting kicked for the unknownth time.
Horde getting attacked? OMFG NEW EXCITING SHOCKING EVENT WE NEVER SAW COMING IN LORE! WHO IS THIS, AND HOW ARE THEY GOING TO DO IT?
Alliance getting attacked? Oh for God's sakes, AGAIN? Can we at least keep Southshore? Oh wait... Ok, how about the Night Elf forests? Oh... Ok, we can keep Theramore, right? No? . . . .

If Orgrimmar has to burn, let Garrosh be trapped in there. Vol'jin would make a better leader for the horde. he knows the pain of losing you father, of felling you home for the greater good of your people and he was there (but never mentioned) at the hordes greatest victory (battle for Mt. Hyjal). and I'm sure he understands Sylvanas plight for her people, with soo few Darkspears left.

Though you must admit, Theramore IS Jaina Proudmoore. Blowing it up = her actually kicking her butt into gear. Theramore is less land to be lost or won, more character drama for the mining.
Destroying Orgrimmar would anger players for different reason, but what if we were to hurt the city and move the capital to somewhere else? Blizz would indeed turn heads if they were willing to reset those assets for storytelling. All they need to make right now is a crater in the ground with smoldering remains of buildings where there's little left and some peons are rebuilding, and then update one of the existing towns to have what the players need. If Stormwind can heal, Orgrimmar can burn.

@Furrama, because we've see the Blizzard approach.
"If something happens to Orcs, they overcome it and be awesome."
"If something happens to Humans, we laugh and write Orc stories."

Jaina hasn't been relevant or important since Warcraft 3. She's had bit-parts in external media, a CoT appearance that was just WC3 again and provided a ham-fisted way of pressing the Reset button on the Battle for Undercity (Something that went ignored by every character involved and affected).
Her book won't be much more than "oh no Theramore is doomed", we'll log in one day after a patch and it'll either be destroyed, burning or Horde territory.
THEN ADAM WENT TO CHINA

Just because something IS doesn't mean that's how it will always be. Jaina might not be interesting now, but that might not always be the case. Blizz might appear to be on a horde kick now, but things can shift. I still have some faith in the almighty Blizzard.

Yes please, burn Orgrimmar. I like Undercity more anyway.
Totally not biased as a Forsaken or anything.
