The subtle art of choosing your character's name has confounded WoW players for years. WoW Insider has even tackled the subject itself. Thankfully, Wowcrendor is picking up the gauntlet and answering the naming challenge with this video guide, Picking Your WoW Name.
While he obviously touches on traditional rogue names like StabYourFace and StabbingLots, Wowcrendor also address the use of accents and non-English characters. The WoW community loves coming up with interesting twists on names, so maybe this video will help.

I always start off a new naming scheme with heavy use of the Randomizer. When I rolled my Druid in BC I randomized Nelf names and came out with Celleste. Sounds kinda mythological/godly, so I used a bunch of egyptian and mayan god names for my characters.
When I rolled my new Hunter at the start of Cata I randomized and came out with Nylitha. I kinda liked it, but it and Nilitha were taken. A bit of playing around led me to 'Nimun' and from there I had a scheme based around -mun (including names like Demun, Humun, Womun, and Shamun)
Long story short, you guys are missing out. You should start a petition or maybe write an addon (idr if you can modify char creation screen with addons...)
If I was going to take a stab at a guess? With people from over 30 different languages using the EU client, the odds of someone, somewhere, finding one of the names offensive are kind of high.
......suddenly, I REALLY wish the random name generator did work in other countries. It would be very educational to see what RL dirty words you can get out of these fantasy languages. Granted, out its out of immature curiosity, but still.
Reminds me of an anime i once saw, called "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". It was a nice movie, but the tittle made me lol. There's a dirty phrase in there, in spanish. I'll let you guys figure which one XD
I remember coming out with my Death knights name and Mage name and my druids name. My Death knights name came out from the dungeon the Oculus. people been telling me that, it was the worst instance in wrath but i say otherwise, it was the most fun for me cause we get to ride those drakes and take down that big dragon at the end since i liked the undead, i named my death knight Oculusdeath :). then came my druid,i called him Forestland because i liked the movie Forest Gump and now everyone makes fun of the name and everytime im on a raid, i have to say " I need to find BUBBA!" and it makes everyone on vent laugh and it just makes me happy :) and then my undead mage name came out cause of a character i had on my old Zelda game screen, on the ocarina of time, i called the user Welldead, idk why but it just matched once it went to the shadow temple lol.
He forgot the 300 plays off the word 'butt'. I put up with the horrible puns, and the 'Stabyoface's, and Xxarthasxxses, but nothing makes me flip a box of kittens off more than the gross and trolling names.
After I was burned out of raiding I made chars: Fatigue, Lethargy, and Exhaustion. DK, Druid, and Rogue. When I first joined WoW I used programming terms. And now a days I play mostly worgen so I use British lastnames. There are a lot of really good British last names out there.
I've always picked adjectives, so that I could say: "My name is..." just as easily as "I am..." Examples have included Ominous, Capable, Semantic, etc. Go down that route and you can always use For a different flavour, you can google "English to Latin to English" or "Latin Word List" and pick something from the results.
I usually look up Old English or Middle English names for my characters, and I've recently been delving into Welsh. I always try to pick a name that I not only like the sound of and is somewhat rare but one that has a meaning that suits my character. I generally avoid using foreign letters or accents, with the exception of the ash character ( Æ )for my Worgen.
It always takes me so long to choose one though; one of my friends was laughing at me about it one day. I'm sitting there doing historical research and he always just hits random and goes with the first name he likes.

What?! now I'm all upset that we don't get Randomize in Europe :O
But what is the reason for that anyways? Must be because we're so good at naming our characters in Europe.. .... ..
Nah, can't be it :-/

Dear god, what a terrible video. The unfunny and patronising voice completely ruined it.
Emophia Nov 24th 2011 2:17PM
Wait what?
I don't have a random button.
I wish I did, I'm sure my Warlock does to, poor Nuabo.
Emophia Nov 24th 2011 2:20PM
Also you think some guy has a job of just making up random names and adding it to the generator?
That would have to be the world's toughest job ever.
I hope for his sake it generates them automatically.

No kidding, takes me a good 15-20 before I'm happy with a name, if it isn't already taken...>.

My brother used to use Boggle to grab some random letters and turn that into a name...
Jabadabadana Nov 24th 2011 5:55PM
Hit your head on the keyboard three times, pull out a couple letters, add some vowels, and create some names like:
gothyboy
lejujufear
hygatio
etc... :)
goldeneye Nov 25th 2011 2:26AM
Heh heh. Jujufear.
