Patch 4.3 5-man bosses in 5 seconds or less

Let's face it, folks: You don't want or need sophisticated explanations for these players. You just want to make sure they don't get you or anyone else killed in the fight, and I had them in mind when I started a little feature called Explain the boss in 5 seconds or less in our patch 4.3 5-man guides. The 5 Seconds or Less guides won't give you an in-depth understanding of the encounters (and they're not as suited to our tanking and healing brethren as a result), but they should be able to help you muddle through an encounter's most dangerous mechanics safely enough. Enjoy!
Now, if you want to know every detail of the three new 5-mans landing in patch 4.3 -- or you're a tank or healer, and there are a few mechanics you really do need to know about -- you'll find those here:
- WoW Insider's guide to End Time
- WoW Insider's guide to Well of Eternity
- WoW Insider's guide to Hour of Twilight
End Time
- Echo of Sylvanas Stay out of purple stuff on the ground. When phase 2 comes, kill the ghoul everyone's DPSing and then run over its corpse and away from Sylvanas.
- Echo of Tyrande Interrupt Stardust and blow your cooldowns at 30%. If you're ranged, don't get close to her, and if she turns to face you, move away.
- Echo of Jaina Avoid big white blades that pop out of the ground. If you see a fire ember on the ground, stand IN it to keep it from damaging the whole group.
- Echo of Baine Throw his totems back at him. If he stomps an island that you're on, swim to a new one quickly.
- Murozond Stay out of big golden circles, stay out from in front of him, stay away from behind him, and pop your cooldowns whenever time resets.
- Peroth'arn Stay out of green stuff on the ground, and don't let the eyes get close to you when you're stealthed.
- Queen Azshara Kill the puppet strings on Mind-Controlled players as quickly as possible, and avoid bad stuff on the ground. You HAVE to interrupt Azshara's Total Obedience ability.
- Captain Varo'then and Mannoroth Stay out of bad stuff, focus on Mannoroth once Varo'then's dead, and keep adds off your healer and Tyrande.
- Arcurion Interrupt Hand of Frost, kill Ice Tombs, and stay out of bad.
- Asira Dawnslayer Stay out of Smoke Bomb and on top of the light circles left by Thrall's totems. If you're a caster or healer, try to keep the tank or Thrall standing between yourself and Asira.
- Archbishop Benedictus Spread out, dispel Righteous Shear/Twilight Shear, interrupt Smite/Twilight Blast, and stay out of waves.

I think it should be it's own feature. WoW Rookie is more geared toward newer players, not us old hats running new content.

I like "Copy, Paste, PUG." I have one bookmarked with quick and dirty writeups for all the non-troll Cata heroics (it's a sticky on the US official Blizz tanking forums) and it's nice to have one for the new heroics too. Yay Allison!

A couple of trash notes are helpful - for Tyrande, when the adds are not in the circle of light they take 90% less damage, so WALK INTO THE LIGHT.
There are a couple of 2-caster, 1-tank packs on the ramp up to Azshara that are a lot easier if you kill the caster first, or interrupt the caster.
Shinae Nov 29th 2011 1:17PM
Killing casters first is one of my tanking rules-of-thumb. They often have a heal.
Thanks for the Tyrande tip!

Yeah, In my book casters always go down first.
Blizzard do a good job identifying this. Usually you just have to target the mob using a robe/dress and see if it has mana. If it does, then look at its name. If it's called something like Priest, Herald, Healer, Cleric, etc, it has to go down first. Then kill the rest of the casters and finally the meat trucks (melee). Even easier if you ask your group to CC the other casters/melee.

Now make it an addon and we're golden.
Shinae Nov 29th 2011 1:18PM
I believe you can make additions to RobBossMods.

Thanks for this. :)

Please do this for LFR dragon soul...

This is one of the most useful articles WoW Insider has ever put out, and that's saying something.
I would LOVE if you did a similar feature for all future dungeons and raid -- the cutting and pasting potential alone will be a lifesaver, since you explain these bosses so much better than I could.
Well done and moar, plz.

Just wanted to add one more thumbs up to this!

Winning

This page is staying open for the next week as everyone learns these dungeons. I will be copy-pasting like a madwoman. Thanks, Allison!

This 5 seconds or less thing is awesome. Is there an addon that lets you /say these TL;DR boss strats? If not, please someone make it. Copy these word for word (With Allison's permission first, of course) and have them available as needed with a button. I'm sure a lot of people would like it. (There are others but they're way overcomplicated. I'm talking a "We're at the boss, and my button spits out 1 sentence of relevant info on this specific boss" button.)

Cannot upvote this post enough. 4.3, WE ARE PREPARED.
ravyncat Nov 29th 2011 1:48PM
Allison, you rock!
Thank you so much for 5 second explanations. This is much more helpful than paragraphs detailing X boss ability--at least for me.
Yamel Nov 29th 2011 1:56PM
Perfectly done! I was searching for good strats to explain to my guildies, and those are simply perfect!
Just a thing that bugs me, In the Pero'than encounter, if you get seen by eyes, what happen? You said that we should not get caught, but i would like to know the why.
Also, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, do it for the dragon soul raid, for LFG, it will so much help us!!
DracoSuave Dec 3rd 2011 4:26PM
If you get caught by eyes you die. Some tanks have figured out how to stop it, but most haven't so you die.
Avoid eyes, and don't die.
Kylenne Nov 29th 2011 1:58PM
Echoing the sentiments to make this a new feature. I love this!
eakin3 Nov 29th 2011 2:10PM
You expect me to take 5 WHOLE SECONDS to learn about a new boss? Who has that kind of time? I don't even have time to finish typing this sen
