Patch 4.3: Hour of Twilight features something for everyone. From a new raid to unexplored dungeons to the latest story developments to shake the world of Azeroth, this content update introduces a new tier of armor sets, the legendary "Fangs of the Father" rogue quest line, Transmogrification for cosmetic armor and weapon customization, Void Storage as a handy long-term storage option, Raid Finder to make forming pick-up raids easier than ever, and much more. Read more about the lore behind this trailer below, or check out the comprehensive overview here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/3964559/Patch_43_Hour_of_Twilight-11_22_2011#blog
In the wake of the Cataclysm, Azeroth's champions rose up to thwart the forces of the maddened black Dragon Aspect, Deathwing. Thus far the world's defenders have shattered the power base of the Twilight's Hammer cult and defeated the raging elemental lords Al'Akir and Ragnaros. Yet despite these victories, as long as Deathwing is free to pursue his twisted goals, Azeroth will remain under threat.
No one is more aware of this fact than the great Dragon Aspects Alexstrasza, Nozdormu, Ysera, and Kalecgos. Together with the wise shaman Thrall, they have devised a plan to vanquish Deathwing with a weapon of his own design: the infamous Dragon Soul.
In patch 4.3, Thrall and the noble Aspects will call upon the Horde and the Alliance to help them retrieve the artifact--no longer in existence--from the distant past. Those brave enough to face the challenge will embark on a perilous journey from Azeroth's apocalyptic End Time to the Dragon Soul's point of origin during the catastrophic War of the Ancients. If the heroes succeed, an even more harrowing battle awaits them in the present....

Holy hell. They should have just made that their official trailer. That was awesome.

Holy hell. YES. YES YES. THAT is what people wanted wanted from 4.3 . A culmination of the story strings we saw started a year ago with this xpac. To see the remaining elemental lords help vanquish the mad aspect, to see the Alliance and Horde rise up to deal with this while at each other's throats.
Not...whatever that trailer and loosely threaded justification we got, was.
What was the point in even introducing the elemental planes if they were going to be so forgotten? The WHOLE WORLD should be uniting in some way to get rid of the threat of Deathwing. Where is the Crusade? Where is the Earthen Ring? Where are the druids? Where are the assorted tribes of every other race - from the primitive to the advanced? It's everyone's world to be defended.

Hour of twilight? My gf made me sit though 2 hours of twilight, and that was bad enough.

Nice trailer. But they should have just done it for Transmog, catwalk style. :D

Okay, watched the trailer. What's with all the complaining?
Sure, it's not a story-driven machinima like some of the trailers have been, but as a preview for upcoming content? It's excellent.
These are very story-driven instances, with plenty of voice acting, and the raid has cutscenes. I'm not sure what this trailer would've focused on without overlapping with the story presented in the game.
Would you have preferred a 3 minute long conversation between Thrall and the Aspects, with Death Wing flying up at the end to evil laugh and threaten?

Watch the trailers for ICC, Ulduar, Black Temple, the original Zul'Aman or even Sunwell and you will understand what all the complaining's about. People are complaining because we know Blizzard can make better trailers. They've done so in the past, repeatedly. This trailer would be adequate for a filler raid in the middle of the expansion, but as something that is supposed to get us pumped to fight the Big Bad? Not even close. It's especially egregious considering the number one story complaint about this expansion is that Deathwing's been something of a lackluster villain. This is doing nothing to remedy that.
And that nonsense about it being story-driven instances or whatever is a ridiculous argument and nothing but a cop out. Sunwell Plateau was no less story driven a raid, and it had a fantastic trailer. You don't have to spend an hour spoiling everything or having people sitting around talking to make a good trailer.
Watch the fan-made remix of the trailer that's been linked several times to see that even the addition of voiceovers (VOs that are already in the game files even) is enough to make this a cool trailer. Blizzard either got lazy or were scared of player backlash about Thrall, imo. It feels like a rush job.

I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't really impressed either. I'm glad there was no VO b/c that can ruin it at times - the voice will drown everything else out.
What I was expecting was a driving point, with dialogue, like Ulduar or LK, not something that with some effort could be made by a fan machinma artist.
The trailer was good, it showed Deathwing and the Aspects, it showed the demons flowing out of Zin-Azshari (which is what really got me excited), and it showed us ripping the plates off of ole Deathwing.
What it lacked was a focal point, something to drive it all home to us. Showing SW/Org on fire might have done that, or some dialogue between the aspects, but there wasn't any.

This one was just posted on youtube, the voices are from the patch itself and improved the blizzard trailer by quite a bit. Judge for yourself

Holy crap. The official trailer left me completely unexcited and that fan trailer with just a few changes gave me goosebumps. Quite impressive.

While notably more epic (especially that last line), I think it's worth noting that Blizz has supposedly 3-4 cinematics between the dungeons and raids and plenty of good voice-acted bits, which means they'd rather save all good stuff for the dungeons and raids you will run 20 times instead of a trailer you'll watch once.
I think there's quite a lot of merit when people say "well the trailer isn't that in-depth because of all the work that went into the actual content".
gideon.alsierra Nov 29th 2011 11:06AM
Psssh! Just get The Doctor to go and get the Dragon Soul :D
It's like a secret Warp Zone like in the old Super Mario Bros. Game :) You have to go down the green pipe in Netherstorm to get access to the TARDIS :)

I understand that Blizz doesn't HAVE to give us a trailer. And I understand that in the scope of internet videos it's actually fairly good. But as everyone is saying, it's just not remotely on par with their past trailers. And considering this is supposed to be about the most epic confrontation in the game's history, I'd think an epic trailer is on order. Deathwing is the oldest villain in the game. He was from all the way back in Warcraft II. Before any of this Lich King or Scourge or Burning Legion business. There were orcs, then there was Deathwing. Then there was everything else. So I feel like they owe him more. I feel a subpar trailer is only a symptom of the overall disease. Deathwing is a real legacy villain and what did we get of him the whole expansion? There were the funny quests in the Badlands; but those were noteworthy because of the humor, not the dragon. Really it was just the confrontation in Twilight Highlands, which boiled down to "rawr! i wont too kill evreyting! i r teh fight u, alexstasza!", and his random flyovers. Those flyovers, to me, sort of sums up how DW was treated as a character. He ended up not really being a character, with personality or motivations, so much as a faceless force. When he flies over, you're not thinking about why he's doing it or why you want to beat him, or what have you. You're thinking either, "Yay, achievement!" or "Damnit, I already have that. Now I have to run back to my body." Why do we want to kill him? Because he's the last boss. We had an emotional investment in Arthas. We cared why we were fighting him and personally wanted it. That's because he had character development. We got to know him. Deathwing not so much. When DW does talk, it's just "I'ma blow up teh werld! Grrrrrr!" "Okay, well.... why?" "Because!" The guy's been around longer than anyone other than Medivh and Garona, and this is all we get from him. I just feel like he deserved better.

@Drahken - you just summed up everything I wanted to say.

In my mind this is the real official trailer. Upvote so everyone can see just how even a little bit of amateur voiceover can fix a trailer.
Drahken Nov 29th 2011 12:49PM
That's amazing. In less than a few hours, a guy with almost no editing experience can put the voice work that's already in the game files over the trailer they released, and it's sooo much cooler. The difference is way bigger than it seems it should be.
erines Nov 29th 2011 12:40PM
Yawn... Deathwing is grumpy yawn..... guy only attacks out of the way places Tanaris, Uldum, on and on... riddance to this scrub. Doom Lord Kazzak (sp) was scarier. Arthas was scarier. Blizzard needs to wake up once in a while. A grumpy dragon just hasn't gotten me goin for a year? Hell even the dragons that hung out in places like the twilight grove not sure if thats the place in Duskwood were scarier. They could have done better with Deathwing imo especially after someone like Arthas.
Sidone Nov 29th 2011 1:01PM
'fan revision, for 1 hour pretty impressive, voice acting can really add to the 'feeling'

I'm kinda let down. The video has no story to it. and there is no intro quest to the new raid or dungeons in the capital city.. you think we'd have some dragon or earthen ring councel anouncing a new assault on deathwing or requesting help defending the Dragon Shrine temple.
Filip83 Nov 30th 2011 3:26AM
Oh FFS kids, grow up. It's just a frickin trailer. Do we have to knitpick about everything Blizzard does lately? MoP is a very odd and slightly letting down of a concept for an xpac, but please let's not take it to far and bully the guys.
