Cryptozoic announces World of Warcraft: Clash of Champions deckbuilding game

If you've never played a deck building card game, the general goal is to accumulate cards to build yourself a larger and more powerful deck of cards, allowing you more levels of control and strategy to defeat challenges that the game throws at you and to compete against your fellow players. You start off with a few cards and through various means purchase or earn cards to build your deck based on the decisions you make. Fans of the wonderful deck building game Dominion know the drill. Cryptozoic is adding a twist to the genre with the new ability for your hero to level up after a boss is defeated, granting new powers and abilities for your deck.
One of the best parts about deck building games is how easy it is to incorporate expansion packs, new factions, and heroes. Clash of Champions looks promising enough to become its own universe, infinitely expandable for all different types of playstyles.
World of Warcraft: Clash of Champions is coming in early 2012 and will retail for $44.99. Look for it soon.

This may actually better to get people involved and playing. I found it easy to introduce people to Dominion, Call of Cthulhu, Summoner Wars and etc because you don't have to buy a ton of boosters in the hope you get the cards you want. Now, if they did a LCG of WoW, it would be awesome.

nice. i've been considering purchasing Dominion, but might have to check this out instead. as a fan of some other rather fringe games (Catan, Puerto Rico, etc), I've heard good things about the deck-building genre, and Dominion in particular. anyone have any experience playing it, and can give me a thumbs up or thumbs down on it (or perhaps recommend other similar board games)?

I love Dominion. Haven't played in a while, but it's always been great fun.
I have a background going back to high school in card games - starting with Magic, moving to SW:CCG and then LOTR, and on to a few others - Wars and VS, mainly. So - obviously I have an affinity for the card games. Take that information as you will, then, when I say that I would recommend it - just start with the base set, it shouldn't set you back too much. You can branch into expansions later, if you're so inclined.

My wife is a Dominion fan. I've played against her a few times and been roundly thrashed. :)
It's a great game, and even the basic set has a kajillion different variants. Highly recommended.

Dominion is good, but I like Ascension better. Thunderstone is also a damn good time.
....I may or may not be a huge board game and deck-building game nerd.

"...against famous raid bosses from WoW's history, such as Ragnarosh..."
Getting a head start on that Thursday evening happy hour at the World's End, huh?

I'm pretty excited for this. My inner nerd desperately wants in on this kind of game, but I can never get friends and family excited. I've tried with the TCG, but maybe something entirely self-contained like this will actually work.

Will there be loot card for in game items?
Bryan Dare Dec 1st 2011 6:36PM
Good lord, that image needs to be released in wallpaperish size, NAO!!! o__O
Michael Sacco Dec 1st 2011 7:55PM
It's a square image for packaging, so it's not available in wallpaper dimensions, but here's a higher-res version.

WTF? They screwed with the trading card game and lost a good number of the players and now they come out with this? They should've just left the card game alone and worked on making that better.
