Breakfast Topic: What moments in WoW would you like to relive?

Nostalgia is a very strong thing. Even in the short lifespan of World of Warcraft, we often look back to better times or particular events with much pleasure and longing. For some, it may be the good old days of 40-man raiding, when every boss downed seemed a great triumph. For others, it may be a particularly hard-won Battleground fight, where, at the end, you knew you gave it your all. But it doesn't have to be that particular. Maybe you miss a certain guild or a group of friends who are no longer in the game. Maybe it was more about the time and the place ... a certain expansion and questing zone. Some of the best times may not involve fighting at all ... just sitting on Vent and laughing with friends.
While I'm enjoying all the friends I have now and like the current expansion, I do long for certain times from the past. I miss the wonder I had when I first stepped through the dark portal and slowly learning just how my class worked (and that it could actually be quite powerful) as I picked up some great questing gear. I miss the group of friends who all played together in Wrath. Some play less now; one has gone off to school and hasn't played on WoW since, one has gone off to another server, and one just hasn't shown up in months. I miss the lighthearted banter, the constant playful insults amongst them, and a lot of laughing I heard over Vent.
Sometimes, I would love to go back to those days and relive them. I would also love to go back to the first very moment I stepped from the relative greyness of Auberdine into Ashenvale -- the colors brightened, the music becoming beautiful and ethereal. I felt like I was truly in a magical place.
Do you have a particular time in WoW that you would love to relive? What makes that moment in time so special for you?

I always wanted to relive Battle for Undercity, that quest was very well designed, and it wrapped up the Wrath Gate story nicely. It's a shame it was removed after Wrath.
There was also this moment in my guild. It was my birthday, and I logged on, and saw I had mail. I checked it, and it was filled with fun things, and it made me cry. :*)
Oh, also once GM gave me a cookie:D

Yes yes yes. Wrathgate and the battle for undercity.
I remeber saying in /gchat (the first time I experienced the events) that it made all the time spent playing the game completely worth it.

Yeah. I never got to do that. A couple guildies told me how cool that was, but I never did the quest chain. I think I started it once. There are certain quest chains I have to do over and over like Crusader Bridenbrad. I'm sure I would have loved it.

For me, my single favorite moment was the first time my guild faced down the Lich King at the top of IC. As a long time Forsaken RPer the entire Wrath expansion felt like a peice of work aimed directly at myself and those like me, and the satisfaction of finally taking my axe to the LK himself was supremely satisfying.

AQ 40 opening event. Probably the best world event blizzard has ever done!

I really wish I'd been playing then to be able to see that. Is there a cinematic anywhere of it? All I've ever found are people's videos on youtube when their server rang the gong.

There's the official patch trailer, but that's it.

It was epic. I would wish for that again, with the addition that I be level 60 at the time, and fully able to participate. Not the lowly 54 I was :(

Questing in Hillsbrad/Ashenvale, seeing Southshore/Astranaar under attack!, then getting our my mains for the upcoming epic fight between towns. I still get mad when I realize I cant fly to Southshore anymore and those awesome fights are forever gone.
Stepping into the purply quiet snowiness of Winterspring.
Continent hopping to follow the Linken quest line, or hatching a fairy dragon egg.
Walking a hundred miles uphill in the snow as Alliance to get to all the dungeons that are in horde territory with no mount, and lots of horde players stalking around.
And trying to get the Carrot on a Stick for all of my alts.
Yeah, these days most people just follow the efficient on rails quests to race to 85. I cant ask to bring back the good old days because I know that wouldnt work. Theyre best kept as awesome memories of a once great game.

I vote for the AQ opening.
But mostly I vote for Moon Guard during the Burning Crusade days, where the griefing was almost nonexistent, every guild knew each other and everyone was friends. I also miss how my guild was at the time, and most of us have long moved on.

I want to relive the zombie invasion. They canceled it before I had time to have any fun with it.

Ah, seconded. The zombie event was great fun. There was a resistance in the Stormwind Trade District Inn on my server at the time, with a massive wall of rotting flesh infesting the entire district outside. A large group of players (myself among them) holed up in the inn and defended it from the zombies, making occasional pushes out. At one point we cleared a good chunk of the district before being forced to fall back.
Got hate messages from the zombies for "ruining their fun", too. Cleansing Totem + Frost Shock was a pretty good counter to them.
To be honest, I kind of wish Blizzard would put up a couple Zombie Servers and allow character copies to them, even if just as a temporary event thing. I can see why it's not viable from a technical standpoint, but it would be TONS of fun.

Thirded. I was just starting a new character and was just level 19 and couldn't do anything. I want to do it again now that I have a good-geared max level character.:(

Me 4. Missed that too. DIdn't start playing until that January.

Part of me would like to go back to the pre-Wrath events, since at that time I was too much of a noob to understand what was going on, thus missed out in participating in them. I also miss the time when I just unknowingly went about playing the game, never stressing about which itemization will maximize my DPS. Back when there was no hardmodes (though going back to the Ulduar days of triggering hardmodes would be nice), you just did what you did. Part of me somewhat misses the sort of progression that Burning Crusade pushed us through. Then again what did I know, I was a two-handed wielding enhancement shaman, I was just raiding to have fun killing things!

I want to go back to the opening of the dark portal. There was just something about people just pouring through that gate and the wonders of a new place....
And then someone pulled the Pit Lord, killed everyone in sight, and crashed the server :D
Pyromelter Dec 3rd 2011 8:52AM
The day my orc warrior hit level 60 and I was able to put that 51st talent point into Titan's Grip. Best damn feeling I've ever gotten putting a point into a talent.
(and yes, my main is a mage, and always will be, but dual wielding 2 handers is completely unique in any game i've ever played.)
Xantenise Dec 3rd 2011 9:01AM
I also want to relive the pre-BC event. There was something epic about seeing skeletons carpeting the ground of Ironforge and watching everyone die in sight.
I wouldn't "relive" this because I wasn't there, but what I wouldn't give for a time machine to go back and watch the Corrupted Blood event...

Class quests. I've always tried my best not to make comparisons between two things I like a lot, but playing the SWTOR beta last weekend made me miss the class quests in WoW very very much.
There was a giddy sort of feeling when I got a letter from my trainer asking me to see him/her so they could teach me something invaluable for my class. Or picking up the token from Majordomo Executus' cache that led me on a round-the-world trek for a truly epic weapon; my hunter has Rhok'delar and my priest has Benediction/Anathema. My warlock fought tooth and painted nail for her Dreadsteed back in the day; she searched high and low for her Bloodrobes before that. My paladin ventured into the smoldering ruins of Stratholme-- which could be seen as the birth or death of paladinism-- for her shiny charger that marked her as a true warrior of the Light.
A huge, vast world suddenly felt personal. I wasn't just Anonymous Adventurer/Mercenary #52302384843 anymore. I was, indeed, a force to be reckoned with or, at least, my trainers recognized the potential in me. I miss that feeling.
Nowadays, there's the quest from your trainer to get a cool weapon which you'll replace in a couple of levels... It's the same sort of sentiment, I suppose, but it still doesn't give me the chill down my spine that speaks volumes of my anticipation.
Tirrimas Dec 3rd 2011 1:05PM
Yes, yes, YES.
While SWTOR's constant back-patting seemed a bit overdone at times, it was nice to feel like a Big Damn Hero instead of one of the faceless horde.
By the time I left the starting area, I felt like I knew about my class' origins and purpose, instead of being rushed off into my faction's war machine.
NetherLands Dec 3rd 2011 2:24PM
This.
So much.
The scraping of Class Quests (and Profession Spec Quests for that matter, I loved e.g. the whole Mithril Order Questline) ranks highly as one of the worst things of The Shattering/Cata, it reduces the replay value immensely.
